I read all three. They were ok. Entertaining and a quick easy read.
My question for all of you who hated it: what are you reading or have you read that is so much better? What am I missing?
Sylvia Day Crossfire series
Bared You Me
Reflected In You
Wicked Ties
Maya Banks Sweet Series
Sweet Surrender
Sweet Persuasion
Sweet Seduction
And I'm about to start Leah Brooke's Desire Oklahoma series which I have heard good things about. After that I'm going to read Byrnn Paulin's Taboo Wishes series which has good reviews0 -

So looking forward to the new Sylvia Day book! Haven't read Maya Banks, I'll add them to my wish list. I really liked Beautiful Disaster and am looking forward to the next in her series, as well.0 -
Lol I love them.
I heard Amanda Seyfried is going to play Ana. I can't think of a worse person to pick. I hope it's a rumor only lol.0 -

Do any of you watch porn expecting to see an Oscar winner? Then again....Those of you that didn't like the book probably think porn is awful as well! lol :flowerforyou:
Lighten up people! :drinker:
Oh please. The porn I enjoy is WAY better than the garbage that is 50 Shades Of Grey.0 -
I thought this was about hair color? Thought it was some kind of let's embrace our age kick or something with pics.0

It was okay...not great writing, but entertaining...0

I read all 3 twice but enjoyed Sylvia Day much more, can't wait for the 3rd book from the crossfire series0

I've written more titillating prose while I was sitting on the toilet...0

I wrote a Harry Potter fanfic when I was 18 that had a better sex scene than 50 Shades......0 -
well so this place seems filled with discerning readers. the other night i asked what book would be good to reward myself with for staying in this diet kick of mine for a fullmonth. i was looking for trashy novel type lit (except 50 shades) but really anything juicy and exciting in any way, (just nothing sad or too serious is all i'm really trying to avoid).0

Right now I am reading Fingersmith by Sarah Waters. It's actually pretty darn good, a dash of mystery and "wtf just happened?" combined with some unexpected sexuality.0 -
If you want decent BDSM fantasy, read the Sleeping Beauty series by Anne M. Roquelaure (Anne Rice of Interview with a Vampire fame). I've never touched 50 shades, but I have read all of these. :blushing: :flowerforyou:0

I haven't read Fifty Shades of Grey; at least not in its entirety. I tried to get through the first book, but I only made it halfway through before I just couldn't take it anymore. What I managed to get through before I stopped was just AWFUL. I can't believe people actually like this book and think it's GOOD.
First of all, the writing is ATROCIOUS. James, being from England, uses a lot of British slang terms... now, that would be fine if the book was set in England with British characters, but its NOT; it's set in Seattle with American characters; therefore, she should use AMERICAN slang terms. Obviously, she was too lazy to research how Americans talk. The parts I read were also quite repetitive; the "oh my's" got annoying and don't even get me started on the stupid "inner goddess" crap I can't believe it, but I think I may have found a book that was written worse than Twilight.
Second of all, the characters were just awful. Ana is pathetic. What kind of 21 year old girl doesn't even know what *kitten* is?! The 21 year old virgin doesn't bother me because I'm 24 and still a (proud) virgin, but holy crap... even I know what *kitten* is! Even I also know how sex works; mostly thanks to health in high school and college, but still. Ana is too unrealistically ignorant and naive about sex. And, I thought I couldn't find a worse male character after Edward Cullen, but Christian Grey makes Edward Cullen look like boyfriend of the year material (which is really bad because Edward is just AWFUL). I don't understand how women can be falling all over him; he's an abusive stalker who has serious issues. He pretty much forces Ana into this relationship that she may or may not want to be involved in by using the excuse that she'll like it so it's okay. Um... no, its not okay. Just because she may like it doesn't mean he can do it to her if she says she doesn't want it.
I actually don't think Christian Grey is the kind of guy that women should aspire to be with. I have a feeling that if a guy like him actually showed up, many women who swoon over Christian Grey would run away from his real counterpart. I mean, this man doesn't simply want to control Ana in the bedroom, he wants to control EVERYTHING she does; both in the bedroom and outside it as well. How many women could honestly admit that they would want to give up control of everything in their lives to a guy like him?
I don't know much about BDSM, but I'm pretty sure that what Christan and Ana have is NOT how a BDSM relationship works; at least not a very healthy one. Based on what I've read, it appears that their "relationship" is an abusive one that uses the guise of being BDSM in order to make all the crap Christian does to Ana okay. BDSM relationships are a mutual agreement between both parties involved and based on trust... Ana and Christan have NEITHER since Ana is pretty much scared of Christan at points and what he'll do to her.
I am horrified that they are making a movie based on the books. And, honestly... I don't know how they can make this crap series into a movie and make it any less than rated R (or NC-17) because of all the sex in it. They can't take the sex out because then they probably wouldn't have enough movie left due to lack of a plot. I swear, whatever male actor takes up the role in the movie, I will lose ALL respect for him as an actor. There is no actor in the world who needs to stoop this low for a movie role. I feel especially strongly about this if either Ian Somerhalder or Ryan Gosling take on the role since they can both do WAY better. I will feel the same way about any girl who wants the role of Ana. I really don't think it's a good career move to be in a movie based off a book that is, to put it simply, porn.
Whoo... that was long, but I feel better now. I don't mean to offend anyone who likes the books; I'm just stating my opinion.0 -

I don't like to read, and what I've heard about these books doesn't entice me to start any time soon.0

Your either hate it or you love it. I'm half way though the first book and love it.0

Meh. I found the writing to be terrible and the characters unlikeable.
If you want something steamy but well-written, try the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series. It's about modern-day vampires, but it's a whole new twist on the topic, and you truly don't even have to be into vampires to enjoy it. I'm a writer, and I find the writing to be excellent, the characters both complex and believable, and the stories engaging. Each book focuses on one of the Brothers finding his mate, but the story flowing through them all involves some fun, kick-*kitten* fighting as well.
Oh, and one of the brothers is a hardcore dom who puts Christian Gray to shame. Good stuff. It's worth a look.0 -

Entwined with You is the 3rd Crosswind book due out this year. I should learn to slow down and proof read before posting0 -

I love the Black Dagger Brotherhood series! It's awesome! And, every guy in that series puts Christan Grey to shame... in fact, pretty much any other male character ever written puts him to shame; except for maybe Edward Cullen; Edward is slightly better than Christan since he's not as much of a control freak, but he's really not that much better.0 -

I liked the first one of that series, but afterwards it was like she was thinking "okay, exactly HOW raunchy can I make this???"0 -
I didn't like the repetitive word usage, but I really enjoyed the books overall.0
