Hey gang--
Hubs and I took the 5 junior Browns to see grandma today-- she was not nearly as strong and coherent as last week. With each heartbreak, the light dims more. However, as is the norm, she seems to draw strength from us and was better by the time we left.
She thumbs her nose at her evil son, and doctors who forced a walker on her by carrying the walker in front of her. It's a riot. She won't roll it-- she lifts it off the ground.
Today at the nursing home, it was "coloring time" so it seems. In another area, you could even do arts and crafts. "Peggy," an aide said to another lady there, "It's your turn to do an Easter craft, and you can decorate a cupcake."
And in my mother-in-law's area, "Evelyn, would you like to come over here and color with us?"
WHAT? IS THIS FREAKING PRE-SCHOOL???!!!!!!
My mother-in-law was a school nurse for 40 years people-- she graduated college. She was independent and could work circles around any one of you with her discipline. I was stunned-- this is how you treat these senior citizens? Like two year olds?
My mother-in-law, God bless her, overheard the aides talking to the other ladies and muttered under her breath, "No, I don't want to color. Are they kidding me?"
This is the woman they've locked up as nuts. It's unreal.
My *kitten* father-in-law was there, knows he's on our **** list-- so steered clear for the most part, except when he started making noises that, hmmm, just maybe he WOULD bring her to Faith's play tomorrow-- after all, he says, evil son doesn't call ALL the shots. We shot him down-- "Dad, that's not true. Kevin has full legal power. You have none."
Still-- he was asking all about the play, what time-- blah, blah, blah-- making noises that it was possible and that he'd consider it for her sake-- yeah, yeah-- this is the same *kitten* that lied to us and her on New Year's to shut us all up-- so we place no faith in what we heard from him today.
Bottom line-- we hope to be able to muster some challenge to evil brother's immoral power hold over her-- but in all reality, as her life and soul are being sucked out of her day by day, she won't hang on long enough to enjoy the freedom. A court battle will likely take far too long-- still, when we told her today that we were planning a fight, she cried and begged us to please hurry.
In any event-- my proud for the day is Violet Malvina Brown-- my wonderful, godly mother-in-law-- who has more spunk in her little finger than I have in my whole body, and who, when faced with how rotten her husband is, says, "that poor soul." She knows he is a screwed up individual, and she actually prays for him rather than hates him-- amazing.
Heading to work-- if my #$@! file ever downloads-- sheesh. Pay period ends tonight-- type, woman, type!!!
Fingers, don't fail me now--
Later, cats.0 -

Marla, I seriously your MIL as much as I you. She's truly amazing. Continuing to keep you all in my thoughts and hoping for a pleasant resolution soon.
2 days, sweet free. Maybe it's not so bad. Wanted to cave more than once today, but I didn't. Yay me.0 -
Have I ever told you how cute Jim is? Would you think after 29 years of marriage he would still get jealous? We borrowed our neighbor's car and went to grocery store and had dinner. While we were going in the store two males workers were sitting outside, no biggie right. When we came out of the store they were still there and Jim was walking behind me. All the way to the car, opened my door for me and I'm thinking okay what does he want ? Well after asking what that was all about he told me they were checking me out and didn't like it. Not one bit . Gotta love a man who doesn't want his wife's backside looked at by someone other than him. This definitely highlighted my day.
Okay enough gushing...we're supposed to be off sweets this week. :laugh:0 -

Marla, In the entire time I worked on the long term care unit in the activities dept we NEVER had the residents color. NEVER ! That is insulting to them and ignorant of the staff. They did ceramics, made a wall quilt, took trips ( lunch or local festival of lights), played bingo, pokeno (sp), bunco, and various other games. We brought in music groups, older movies, some current movies but no coloring. I definitely would have said something but then I have a big mouth.0 -
Hey all, jumping on here to catch up from the day. Busy one. No computer time. The kids started spring break, I played taxi running them where they needed/wanted to go, got a few things done around the house, sort of feel like it was an unproductive day, but all in all, I guess it was alright.
We went and got our decking boards tonight, can't wait to get started tomorrow! I'm ready to see this project finished. Hopefully they will go down fast and we can get the stairs built to get on to it from the pool level. That will really feel like progress!
Hubs came home from work with this ginormous box of hugo straweberries, 12 pints for $10. I was in heaven. I made a shortcake, screwed it up royally. Hubs said I made baked plaster. I sure did, plaster may have tasted better. I usually make it out of the Heart Smart Bisquick and the recipe wasn't on the box. I thought I remembered. I didn't. Guess I need to look it up. Oh well, just calories I didn't need anyway but my mouth was watering for some yummy warm shortcake, strawberries and milk. I'm finding the recipe and trying again tomorrow!0 -

You guys bring sanity to my crazy life-- thanks for making me know that we're on the right side of this madness.
Shuntae-- I right back-- all of you--
Have a great weekend--0 -
Marla - sorry to hear about how the 'home' is treating your mother in law, but at least she is aware of it and in her own way rebelling.
Lori - I wish you luck with your garden projects, and enjoy spring break.
Bobbi - good luck with the workouts and isn't it nice when our hubby's get all posessive
Shuntae - well done on being sweet free
Well I have fallen off of this weeks challenge and eaten a cadbury's caramel bar after going shopping with my boys - £50 on a little shop, I hope the sausages are gold plated   . Have done 45 minutes walking and 20 minutes on the bike, so that I can have some red wine with the tuna steaks that hubby and I are having for dinner tonight, the boys have got shepherds pie. Am currently sitting here with Christopher watching Tomb Raider and hoping that he dozes off, so that I can turn it off and watch this weeks fringe.
Have a good weekend all, xx0 -
Marla, I had an Aunt , bless her that needed nursing care because her body had failed her but her brain hadn't. She would not participate in what she called ABC activities. When I would go to visit her she would say "oh no here comes the ABC people" We would listen to them beg her to play bingo or do some cut and paste activity. She would laugh and take it with stride. Thankfully and I know this sounds strange she was a smoker , lots of the staff were so her recreation was to go out on the porch and smoke with the staff on break. They would tell her about their lives , discuss politics , watch the news with her. We always made sure she had plenty of cigarettes to share! I miss her but am so grateful to the staff who could see beyond her battered body and get to know the real women inside. She remembered quite a few of them in her will so I guess she appreciated them too. Richie0

Hi team!
Just stopped in to log from yesterday and say hello
Have a lovely Saturday:flowerforyou:0 -
Starting off the morning with a little MFP. Headed 'out' to start work as soon as I muster up the energy to get dressed and brush my teeth. Decking boards today, at least we will be able to walk on it. Progress, isn't it grand?
Have a good day all!0 -

Richie-- thank you for sharing this. My mother-in-law has found some Christian women on staff that sit and talk and pray with her. They have her so drugged, and her spirit is so broken that her mind is failing-- but she has enough oomph in her that she will not do the ABC stuff--
It is disgraceful-- the pictures that the patients have colored are taped on their doors and walls in the sitting area-- like I would do with 4 year old Joshua's pictures on my fridge.
Disgraceful-- sighhhhhh--
Alas-- off to type.0 -
Happy Saturday! Just checking in, logging dinner from last night and b'fast from this morning. Need to get busy so we can head to the Y to sign Tenley up for softball, to the store for apples/bananas for a treat for Girl Scouts and then to the Girl Scout meeting. Hubs is working this morning. Thank you Lord for the overtime. Please help me keep my sanity today. TOM is coming and my nerves are a gaggle of short wires right now.0

Richie, I am so glad your aunt had the staff to keep her mind active . I, however, do not consider games like bingo an abc activity. Games like these help with cognitive functions in those that need it. It keeps them sharp.0 -

I'm having scale withdrawal. I said I wasn't getting on it for 6 weeks. I hadn't been weighing daily anymore and totally obsessing anyway, I was going several days or a week without getting on, but I also was supposed to be 'ok with my weight' then.
The scale was so high on Monday, I feel like I need the affirmation that I am doing something right and it's going down. I felt like I had a serious spare tire today, not sure why. Only when I sat down though, so I guess I'll stand for the rest of my life? Guess that could work.
I may need to rethink my scale thing. I remember why I wanted to stay off, it still makes sense, but I also think checking in once a week and seeing where you are makes sense. (I could never be a politician, I can argue both sides of anything.)
Tired, long work day, progress is a coming!0 -
Went to see Guys and Dolls at my daughter's high school tonight-- oh my gosh. Is there anything on this planet that won't make me cry? Faith had a small part, but it was her first audition and she had nothing on her resume-- and she was just so stinkin' adorable I burst and blubbered with pride.
The show was phenomenal-- so THAT'S why rehearsals were every night for six weeks, and all this week until 10pm. These kids worked their butts off.
My husband went to the snack bar and brought back a Milky Way and a Snickers.
"Here I brought back one of each for you to take your pick."
"I don't want either one."
"Pick one!"
"I can't. I'm on a no sweets challenge."
"You lose. Pick one!"
The Milky Way was yummy, and I'm still under 1400 calories. I'll take the 1 in the loss column.
Lovely night-- refreshing for my soul. Lots done today around the house.
All around good day--
Love to all.0 -
Just checking in my fine fellowed friends..off to work...uuuuggghhh so tired, and my face hurt from being wind blown I look like an owl!!!0
