I truly don't understand the vast amounts of people who promote the use of egg whites and whey in everything.
Am I the only one here that realizes there are far healthier forms of protein that work just as well, if not better?
I"m the one with a weird "fad" for eating raw vegan? When people who are in their 30's and 40's are still suckling cow's milk like it's no tomorrow.
Cow's milk is made for cows. Human milk is made for humans. If your going to drink milk that's for helping infants grow can't you at least drink it from your own species? Hell, cows and humans are in totally different families. The genetic make up of their milk is far different.
Dairy is made to make a calf grow to 500lbs in under a year. A calf is around 1/5th the size of a full grown heifer, now a human child is 1/32th the size of it's mother. Does anyone else see what's wrong with that picture?
Has anyone else notices we're the ONLY species that drinks milk past the 1 year mark? Does that not seem a bit off to you?
Or maybe it's all the other mammals on this planet are the ones doing wrong. Maybe cats should drink goat milk and goats should drink raccoon milk and raccoons should drink kangaroo milk. That makes sense right?

It doesn't seem a bit off to me at all since humans are also the only species capable of digesting milk past infancy. Genetic studies have shown that the loss of lactose intolerance spread along the same pattern as the development of agriculture. In other words, the ability to digest milk is genetically advantageous in a settled population, probably because it allows humans to survive in otherwise lean times (say, when the crops fail or in the winter).
In other words, the same agriculture that allows you to eschew meat and dairy could only develop BECAUSE humans started to drink milk.
Of course, I think it's ironic that someone who eats raw vegan is saying dairy is unnatural when it has been shown repeatedly that an all-raw diet inevitably leads to malnutrition because of the sheer amount of effort it takes the human body to digest it.
Edit: Fun fact: Scientists now also believe that cooking food is what allowed humans to evolve their enormous brain capacity.0 -
I'm sure there are plenty of animals that would drink milk, as adults and from other species, if they could just figure out how to get it. And the commercially available milk that humans drink is a pretty far cry from the milk that calves drink directly from their mothers. It's been pasteurized, homogenized, and the cream (fat) has been removed for the most part.0

Your rant isn't helpful at all.. you mention healthier forms of protein, yet fail to list any comparisons... what's your point?0
-
We're the only species wearing clothes. Doesn't that seem a bit off to you?
A piece of advice to the OP: talk less, think more. It will do wonders.0 -
You are using the Internet, but no other species uses the Internet, therefore it is unnatural and wrong for you.
Also, my cat is a huge fan of milk, and would drink it regularly if she could figure out how to get it herself.
All species eat what food they have access to and can digest. For me, that includes milk.
Welcome to the top of the food chain.0 -
The problem with being Vegan is that you can ONLY get vitamin b12 from animal sources. You HAVE to supplement a vegan diet with B12 or you will eventually become very ill indeed. Humans are carnivores - I respect the vegan ethic, but we're not designed to eat in that fashion for any length of time.0

We're not "every other" species. We're human.
Our difference to other species - how we use them and their products - defines us, and sets us as the dominant species on the planet. While you may not, I'll celebrate to that with a big steak, eggs and some chocolate ice cream. Because I'm proud of being part of the most badass species on the planet.
That., and it tastes nice.0 -
Cows milk is digestible by humans and by baby cows- in its raw form. All the natural digestive enzymes are killed by pasteurization. Same goes for any food processed by cooking. Our bodies struggle to digest foods which have no digestive enzymes. If you think a little, you may realize that is why so many suffer from digestive issues such as acid reflux, constipation, diarhhea, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, Irritible bowel, etc. Or why digestive aids are so very profitable. Or why one of the main causes of death in the US is Cancer and a frequent type is colorectal cancer.
Most people LOVE drinking milk. I drank raw milk for a minute - that is until it was $8/gallon. Now I gotta go through a local Weston A Price Foundation chapter if I want to get some since its not legal to sell in stores anymore. FRICK, its difficult getting raw JUICE at the store.
Unfortunately, it doesn't matter what you say, people are VERY attached to the way they eat. No one wants to be told the way they eat is wrong. Not you, not anyone. Most people do not want to be told the diseases they have/may have in the future are due to their habits. Most people don't want to take responsibility for that. I mean, its difficult enough to come from being overweight to take responsibilty for that - you're going to take away my red meat and milk too? EFF THAT. Leave it alone. Everyone reaps what they sow.0 -
And this is why vegans have such a bad rep. Sometimes I think about going vegan but I would never call others out for their diet on a motivational forum or anywhere else. By the way, humans are omnivores, not carnivores.0

Nah, vegans aren't all bad. One if my best pals is a vegan (except for honey - of which he justifies in the strangest of ways), and he's awesome.
Anyone who gets holier than thou because of their dietary choices are annoying, tbh. Can be kind of funny, though - it can be like a bunch of little kids screaming at each other "my lunch is better than yours".0 -
Oh look, an anti-milk thread that used the same tired arguments as we've seen a hundred times before.
We shouldn't do it because other animals don't do it.
Ok, hope you like living in you hole in the ground without clothes, electricity, complex speech, architecture, or the written word. For starters.0 -
We are not the only species
I can drink milk and I have no intolerance so I do
It has not turned me into a 500lb cow.

I eat meat, however you are VERY wrong. I'll list the ways.
1. Vitamin B12 does not come from an animal source. It is ingested by the animal, so technically you are getting second hand B12. It actually comes from bacteria from dirt. The animals get it b/c they don't wash their food before eating them. B12 can also stay in your system for YEARS, so if you were to get a supplement, having one pill every few months would be fine.
2. Humans are not carnivores at all. In fact our bodys are designed EXACTLY like herbivores.
Here is what we share with herbivores that carnivores do not.
- Our intestines - carnivores & omnivores 3-6 times body length, herbivores(and humans) 10-12 times their body length
- Our saliva. Carnivores do not produce saliva to aid in digesting food
- K9's. Our K9's are similar to other herbivores K9's, not carnivores K9's (or teeth in general.
- facial muscles - carnivores have reduced facial muscles to allow for wide mouth gape, we along with herbivores do not. (along with multiple other "jaw" reasons
- chewing - carnivores swallow whole (or don't chew they tear), humans need extensive chewing - just like herbivores.
- Stomach acidity - Carnivores and omnivores PH1 or lower, in humans PH 4-5 same as herbivores
- colon - simple, short and smooth in carnivores and omnivores. Herbivores - long, complex and sacculated
- liver - carnivores can detoxify Vitamin A - herbivores and humans can not.
- kidney - extremely concentrated urine in carnivores and omnivores. In herbivores and humans it's moderately concentrated urine
- nails - carnivores and omnivores their nails are actually sharp claws. In herbivores and humans - flattened nails or hooves.
You would have been just slightly less wrong if you said we were omnivores, but still wrong.
Even apes who eat meat are still 98% vegetarian. btw you can add omnivores to any of the carnivore list I did not - they apply, I just got lazy.0 -

So you're wrong. We can accept that, maybe you can't, but no need to attack.
If you want to drink milk, go ahead. Do we need it? Not at all! Is it healthy for us? Not near as healthy as the milk industry would want you to believe. Will it hurt you? Only if you're LI. Is there better sources for the same nutrients? Of course!0 -

No one is saying we need it. Someone is saying it will hurt us however. And it is very debatable as to whether there are better sources for the same nutrients, especially as my nutrient needs are different to yours.0 -
I see the google search works well for you. The point is proven. However the science remains - we are not carnivores or omnivores naturally. It's not our "ideal diet".
I don't know about you, but I do know that every human will defend their choices even if evidence shows their beliefs are wrong (at one point or another). Many people can't accept it, I couldn't for the longest time, but to dispute the facts would just be ignorant... (like disputing humans are the only animals to drink milk past infancy) - it's equally as ignorant to think our bodies are designed for consumption of meat.
Just goes to show you that NO ONE is too smart to get away from the propaganda machine.0 -
Awwww. That baby skunk picture was just adorable. Can't we stop the hate and go back to worshiping kittens on the internet while doing squats?0

lol - I am not even going there on the omnivore v herbivore debate. I am a vegetarian and believe we are omnivores. So, in fact, I am defending someone elses diet...your point is invalid.
I assume you are also encompassing you in your rhetoric.0 -
Can everybody just stop arguing? People will make up their mind on their own terms when it comes to whether or not they want to continue consuming animal products.0

As a woman, your nutrient needs are different than mine, yes. But why would you think that same sex individuals need different diets? It could very well be that some of those diets are causing problems, resulting in the need for different nutrient needs.
It's getting late, and I'm getting too aggressive for this argument, I apologize in advance. Have a great night all! And research vegan eating - I don't do it, but I try to, and I feel much better on it. Our human biology says it's the right way, and I have to side with that. I think my post above is a pretty strong argument for the vegan (or at least majority vegan diet).0 -

Actually the natural weaning age of a human child is between 4 and 7 years old.0 -

You can believe in something, but it doesn't make it true or right. Our chemistry says that your vegetarian diet is what our bodies are designed for. If you read my post (and did the research to confirm from reputable sources) you'd see that we are not omnivores at all. Maybe if we keep it up, we'll evolve to that, but for the time being, we are everything a herbivore is right down to our insides & PH.
Why do you think humans have to worry about cholesterol levels, while omnivores and carnivores don't? It has to do with our intestines not being anything like theirs.
Same reason why cats can get diabetes. Much of their food is "filler" that their bodies are not designed for, - just like much of humans sicknesses0
