Why do people act like someone is going to force pizza and bagels down your throat? Are they going to revoke your membership if you don't eat it? I'm normally not there when they do the pizza and the last time they were suppose they didn't even have it. Also bagels aren't bad and they aren't going to force you to eat one either.

I'm glad they have an atmosphere where people aren't bringing in jugs of water and growling. Sick. I do often see people try and act bad *kitten* and strain themselves to the point where you think they are about to have an accident right there on the floor and it's pretty funny because they totally don't know what they're doing. It just looks pathetic.

That's because the people who do know what they're doing avoid PF ;)

Feel free to buy us PF members a $50+ membership elsewhere :) Pm me and I'll give you my paypal address

Well, yeah, that is the problem. But the fact that they're cheap doesn't mean the average PF is a good gym.

Yes, they're fine if you just want cardio or you happen to be one of the lucky ones whose PF has freeweights. No, you're not an idiot if you decide to be a member of PF. But I detest PF as a company for the image of fitness that they promote.

Mine has always had freeweights. Their advertising is towards general fitness, not body building so I don't know why anyone would compare it to a gym that was endorsing body building.

Bodybuilding and heavy lifting are very different things. Bodybuilding is sculpting a physique for appearances at the expense of health. Lifting is done for all sorts of reasons, but is in reality extraordinarily good for your health.
  • I'm going to check out my local PF and see if I'm one of the lucky ones with squat racks and Olympic bars. $48/month for my YMCA membership is killing me, though I adore the facility. There's another local $10/month gym that I checked out that would have been perfect, of only it had a squat rack instead of a smith machine.

It is interesting how many people seem to find there to be some sort of importance on where you go to work out. If you need certain things then go to a different gym... but to call people "amateurs" and "gym phobic" because they choose PF is unnecessary and a blanket judgment that is not likely true. I guess it just comes down to inability to understand the differences between people and that our needs and priorities are different.

Anyways OP. I hope that they can replace the floor quickly and it will only be an inconvenience for a day or two. It looks dangerous and the possibility of someone getting hurt should be something management should have found a solution for.

Thanks! I hope they do too. I have not been able to complete half of my workouts in the last two days and I'm headed to Denver so hopefully it will be all finished by Friday for my next visit! I missed my rdls and bench so far :-( I'll miss tomorrows shoulder and back because of work travel so I'll make it up this weekend if it all works out...

Did they give you an ETA as to when it would be done?

They just said a few days...

"Because if you can't dead lift then it's not a real gym. And apparently they shove the pizza and bagels down your throat and toss tootsie rolls at you while you're running on the treadmill."
    [/quote]

This does not happen anywhere, let alone at a Planet Fitness. They offer free pizza and bagels once a month as a reminder that when you're on a diet, it's okay to fall back onto comfort foods sometimes. I've had a slice of pizza and a bagel from there once and it didn't change my weight loss one bit... still down 18 pounds and going strong. FYI...

So, I went into Planet FItness today to get a membership as it is the closest gym to me. My girlfriend and I are starting Stronglifts together, and we want a convenient place to go work out other than our apartment gyms. I was just gonna sign up online last night. However, after reading this thread I decided to give it a tour first....

Cut to the chase--this place only has Smith machines! You guys were right. I thought, "Surely not...no barbells?" whenever I first read all the complaints about PF. Boy, was I surprised.

Needless to say; I walked out without getting the membership.

It all depends on what you are after. For $10/month, you can't beat them. They are great for cardio machines. Yes, their free weights are lacking, but that's not what I am after. I want to run on the TM, bike occasionally for a change and use a full machines just to get a workout. So for me, they are great. Thats part of what makes capitalism great, if you dont like it, dont go there.

After a good year or so of arm twisting, my gf finally got me to join PF. I'm actually really glad I did. It's not my primary gym, but the fact that it's open 24/7 is HUGE for me. I've gotten accustomed to benching on the Smith and can do probably 90% of my normal workout there between the dumbells and cable machines. And the price is NICE :)
  • PF bashing is lame
i did a trial at 24 and it was a filthy zoo
paying 10/mo at PF is a way better deal
people act like other gym chains are nirvana
dont feel so superior because you do 3 reps and 1.5 sets with an olympic bar and feel like part of the cool club
theres people doing calisthenics who you will never look like in your dreams
you dont need fancy weights for a good workout
you should be glad they kept the place open during remodel
