Yamaha V Star 650 Classic with a custom girlie paint job. An angel and flowers.

That was the first bike I had...minus the angel and flowers

I have an 08 650 Vstar that I bought as a leftover new 2 yrs ago. Tore my shoulder at work and only rode 2k miles the first year. I put 9k miles on last year in 3 months of riding. Today was the first ride to start of my season. 23 degrees in michigan when I left home this morning for work. Im shooting for 20k miles this season.
Hubby used to have a VStar. I used to have a Vulcan classic. Waaaaay back before we had so many kids. Man, this time of year makes me miss it!

Growing up, everyone I knew had motorcycles, so I grew up riding on the back of them. So in my 30s, I took the motorcycle course, got my motorcycle license, then impulsively went to a Kawasaki dealership and bought a brand new Ninja 250 (my first and only bike). I gave myself a year to practice my riding, then soon discovered I was happier being a passenger than the driver. I never felt truly comfortable, so I ended up selling it.

I grew up riding behind my dad and brothers, loved it! I had it on my bucket list to actually drive a motorcycle. It didn't take me long after I finally took the motorcycle course and got my own bike to realize that I never want to be a passenger again!

Bumping! I haven't been on a bike for about 10 years, until this past week. I just got a 2002 Honda Shadow 750 (yeah, profile pic :D) and am loving every second I get a chance to ride.

HAHA Until I get more comfortable riding I can get a 600 and have it lowered... I love my bike and so happy I took the course and got my license!!!

Since I'm kinda new into the motorcycle scene again, I've been going over different gear to start buying. I was wondering what some others might recommend or prefer for anything from boots, clothes, helmets and even accessories (and on what type of bike?).

And speaking of helmets, any thoughts on this? Rogue_Model.jpg

The helmet looks cool but the added features are more of a novelty than a legitimate safety feature. For gear it really depends on your budget. On the lower end of the budget spectrum, you really can't beat Scorpion or Cortech/Tourmaster (one brand, two different lines). There's also River Road, which is a strictly cruiser brand. For more middle of the line, Teknic is where it's at. For higher end stuff, Alpinestars (kind of straddling the line between mid/high end), RS Taichi, Dainese, and Ku****ani. For helmets, I think Bell, Scorpion, Shoei, Shark, and Arai are where it's at.

Z1R makes some great inexpensive full face helmets.

Haven'r ridden for 18 years after a major accident.
(Lots of metal in my left leg and ankle. Replaced left hip. Left leg that looks like a badly made pizza)

That was until two weeks ago when I got a XL1200N.

I was going to get a Superglide 35th aniversary but my ankle couldn't deal with forward pegs....

Plus, up until recenly, I've been too fat for a bike :)

(That was my primary reason for joining here)

Oh and in a related NSV, the jacket i'm wearing in the pic is the one I was wearing 18 years ago when I had the off. Yes I know its snug but it zips :)
