Organized religion is divisive, not to mention manipulative and power-seeking.0 -
Hey there! Atheist here too!0
-
Another one here0

I am a Christian and I will state the same thing as I did on that thread, `if the shoe was on the other foot` then you may find it offensive?
What shoe and what foot? What am I supposed to be finding offensive?
the shoe you put in your mouth? the `left shoe` Honey, I am saying that people are entitled to their own beliefs, offensive is your defensive, I have no problem with your beliefs/none beliefs
What are you talking about? I never said that others don't have the right to believe whatever they want. I'm not offended by anything. Are we having the same conversation?0 -
I am -not- atheist, but don't really care if you believe in something or not. I am a firm believer in allowing people to believe that they want.
I consider myself a gay-marriage supporting, pro-stem cell research, non-preaching christian...basically I read the bible at home and believe what -I- want to believe lol.....don't think it should be preached in the public schools, but I do believe in allowing people to -pray- as long as it is not required of all. I am a HUGE supporter of seperation of church and state. Feel free to add me if you want...there are no references to any form of religion or spirituality on my page (this isn't the place for it )0 -

Also, against the rules of MFP.0 -

No, she just felt she had to put it out there that she's Christian and beat around the bush about being offended by your thread.0 -
Count me in!0

This is divisive.
No, it's not. (or are you being sarcastic?)
It's no different than a 40 year old seeking other 40 year olds as MFPals--if they write that, do we automatically assume they're being divisive because they don't prefer 20 year old friends? No. This isn't a thread arguing ANYTHING...it's simply a person who is an atheist seeking other atheist friends. Nothing wrong with that.0 -
Prepare to get friend requested by Christians.
I think that Atheists think themselves to be more offensive to Christians than they really are- but then again I've never been on that side of things. I am a Christian... and I do not expect anything "christian" out of them.
Many people that claim to be Christians live as though there is no God- which makes them agnostic. What's the difference?
I have no problem being friends with Christians (or Muslims or Jews or Buddhists or Yogis or whatever) as long as they don't try to convert me. Friend away!0 -
Hey...I'm not only an atheist, I'm also a pro-choice, gay marriage backing socialist. In short, I'm guaranteed to piss off a good 3/4 of the population merely by breathing ;-)
^^ lulz^^0 -
me too. no time for it0

Hello! Very happy to say I am and never have cared what other people thought. I like the comment below. That is how I have always felt.
quote=mfpcopine - I believe in the power of people acting at their very best to conduct themselves with good will and sensitivity and altruism towards others.0 -
I'm delighted to see so many of us! I did find an atheist group after I posted this, but it doesn't seem super active.

It's sad when expressing an opinion of no named religion is offensive. People need to take their tampons out and relax. If you are not an atheist, move along.0 -
me me me!
I'm Atheist . That sounds weird but I used to be afraid to tell people. Imagine that...
I love Doctor Who too:: Your ticker is awesome!
Thanks!
And I'll second that. I'm an obsessive Whovian and I've MET my first Doctor. My first Doctor was Sylvester McCoy and he's actually a friend of a friend of mine these days.
I, too, am a Whovian. River Song is my role model.0 -

What is against the rules? Which rule?0 -
This is divisive.
How is it divisive? Is it not ok to seek out people who are similar to you?
Nope, apparently not. For future reference, this apparently applies to birthday threads as well.
15. Divisive Topics Are Better Suited For Groups, Not the Main Forums
Divisive topics, particularly those that seek input from or are relevant only to a select group of users, are better placed within an appropriate Group rather than the Main Forums. For example, topics relevant to only one religion should not be placed on the main forums but rather within a group related to that religion. We reserve the right to move any topic to a relevant public Group which interested members may join if they wish to continue to participate.0 -

Confused by your comment. I see nothing offensive about Christians (or others of varying faiths) seeking like-minded friends. There's also nothing wrong with atheists or agnostics seeking like-minded friends.
What's there to be offended about with the original post? There are "introduce yourself"posts for 40 year olds seeking other 40 year olds, moms seeking friendship with other moms, etc etc etc etc....
This topic doesn't apply to me personally as I'm not an atheist, although I may have some agnostic leanings...but if you don't want to be-friend atheists or agnostics...then don't. :flowerforyou:
Why do people make things so complicated?
There was a post by a Christian mum wanting to make friends with other Christians, and that is what my original reply was too, which I seconded on this post.
Everyone is entitled to their religion/non religion but it can offend others?
I hope this makes this a little less complicated for you?0 -
I don't like to label people based on just one belief in their catalog of things they might believe in.
Based on that, I guess I'm an A-Santa-ist, A-Easter-Bunny-ist, A-ToothFairy-ist, A-Flying-Spaghetti-Monster-ist, and A-thiest.0 -
I am an atheist myself. I think there's probably lots of us around here, though there's not often a reason to state it comes up.
Exactly this.0 -

Well, I'm a Christian, but feel free to friend request me if you'd like. I'm not trying to insult this forum; it's just nice to have fitness friends.0

Oh, good grief. The topic is FRIENDSHIP. She's not asking anyone to have a discussion regarding religion or non-religion!!!! She's seeking similar friends.
/facepalm0 -
I identify as an atheist/agnostic. I was raised that way. I experimented with religion while growing up, but nothing really stuck.
I don't think threads on organized religion or lack there of, should be deleted. I don't see it as too much different from "hey what kinda bands do you like?". I mean...worldview vs hobbies...but for me it's kinda in that same boat.
The only issue I have is if people are intolerant. I don't need anyone on MFP telling me I'm going to hell, nor does anyone have the right to dismiss someone else's religious beliefs.
I'm a very open-minded and accepting atheist.0 -
