Let's not all act like we haven't done something similar at one point or another.

I have a pretty tight range, I only friend people who are 33. If you're 34 or older, or 32 and younger, you just don't understand me. You weren't THERE, man.

*hopes Burt doesn't notice the age on my profile, crosses fingers*

    Also...

Assuming someone put up the "that escalated quickly" gif (thread TL;DR), I'm going to add:

    "I killed a man with a trident!"

    Doesn't count, you're Canadian.

Whew. That means I'm safe, too, given that I'm 43 in a month...but Canadian...

43 Canadian is like 33 American anyway...

LOL at this whole thread

I get what the OP is saying, it's a heck of a lot harder for me to get in shape now as opposed to in my 20s. I could eat what I wanted then. I never even had a weight problem until my 30s. Fat for an entire decade, then hit 40 and got even FATTER. Everything is harder now...Back in the day, in my 20s, I could stay up all night then go to class or work the next morning. Now, if I'm up past 1am I am DEAD to the world come time to get up and groggy and dragging all day. So many ways age affects you. It's an extra-hard grind to get excess fat off you once you are middle-aged, that's true!

That said, it's a hard grind no matter what your age. I make no age distinction amonst my MFP friends :flowerforyou:

so many haters here...the guy simply wanted to have friends in his age group. if that works for him to meet his goals don't you think we should be supporting and understanding?

This seems like the most positive approach. I usually figure that if they are here, then they are for a reason. If I see a lot of "duckface" or meat market comments, then they are gone. Or if the don't log for more than 3months. I know crap happens but I want my feeds full of encouragement and triumps..not bullcrap

I'm just about to turn 38, been obese for 20+ years. Took 7 months to get to my perfect BMI, lose 79lbs & be able to run 10km a day. No rest days, no cheat days & fitter than most people I know & I;m betting I could outlast you as well. All this wish a back injury that means I may never work again.

Impressive enough for someone UNDER 40?

Im just curious how your back injury keeps you from working ever again yet you can run > 6 mi/day? I know many people who can work and can't run that much. Can you share some details?

Full disclosure: If I didn't have to work every day, I could probably run >6 miles/day too.

What about women that have had babies.

People that have had serious injuries (car accidents, etc).

Just a couple examples, there are many more.

But, I see no problem with wanting to be friends with people that are within your own age range.

Just curious for everyone bashing OP, but how is this different than posts of "looking for more friends in their 20s" or "is anyone here in their 30s and 5'5?"? It's just a different path to the same place, isn't it?

I don't think those people announce that they just deleted a bunch of people or insinuated that others not in their age group had it easy.

Good point. I was just doing my part to try to deflect some of the heat from OP...

...but on second thought, forget that.

I love my younger friends! They make me feel younger and give me the motivation to do what I can to keep up with them. Just sayin', :drinker:

Wow, and I just paid you a compliment on "first impressions" on another board -- guess what my first impression of you is now?

And doesn't your profile talk about working with high schoolers to encourage them, set an example, etc. You're doing a superb job lemme tell ya!

Your ridiculous! Glad I don't have "friends" like you who are so conditional!!!

 Yeah, I still have a year to go before I hit the "elite" group. But when I do, I probably won't delete anybody. It's funny how upset people are getting over this. Are these all the people he unfriended? I could care less who other people pick as their friends. It's just some strange dude on the Internet. Who cares?

I'm sure all the people you removed are heartbroken.

I think anyone's progress at any age is impressive. Maybe I'm just a youngster who doesn't know better. You can brag about removing all your "unimpressive" friends who have it so easy because they're young. Ill continue to not judge anyone trying to improve themselves at any age.

Also, if you ever decide to return to this thread, what's unimpressive about younger people like myself getting control of their weight and bettering themselves before they end up your age before figuring it out? My husband (25 years old) can eat whatever he wants and not gain a pound, some days I feel like I can gain 5 just by looking in a bakery store window. We stick to what we're doing and I'll bet that I'll be in better shape than him in 10 years. Then would it be impressive enough?

Get over yourself, no one's crying about you deleting them.

    Wow dude.

There's better ways to get granny porn . . .

    Best reply to anything. Ever.

I am soon to be 43; I definitely don't qualify for "granny porn". Life goes so fast; enjoy it 20 and 30 somethings. One day you will try to figure out where the years went. Trust me.

*Applause* from another (recently turned 44) who isn't ready to reach for her walker just yet.

I've never judged my friends here based on their ages, because youth doesn't necessarily indicate a lack of struggling. However, once we hit 40 we don't need to retire gracefully to a rocking chair on the porch and reminisce about the bodies we *used* to have. Some of us (myself included) look and feel better and are far healthier than we EVER were in our 20's and 30's.

It's also important to note that just because some of us are older doesn't mean we have gained the wisdom of the ages, either. D-bags come in all shapes, sizes and ages...

... as the OP has managed to prove.
