I just have to say I find the comments here from the women to be pretty offensive, sexist and ignorant. What if we turned the question to instead of what a man should wear - what a woman should wear. I cannot believe the intollerance I'm hearing here. Should we apply the sames rules to women - no fat chicks in bikinis - no muffin tops exposed - no fat guts sticking out, let's ban camel toes? Give me a break girls. If you applied the same rules to women that you're talking about for men most of you would be walking around in patio dresses. Let's drop the double standard folks. I'm sorry - I'm blown away by this .

 I agree with you so much.

Still a supporter of speedo wearers though. :)

I mean whatever a man is comfortable in. If he can wear it confidently and be comfortable, that's what matters. I think if a woman has an issue with it... it's entirely her own issue, no one else's.

you sound European, maybe? I'd go with the SPEEDO!

Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy do people think Europeans wear Speedos? No!!! European women (generally!!) also do not appreciate Speedos!!! Boardshorts, that's it.

You wonder why films portray nerds with speedos whilst on the beach
  • First, I totally agree with the comment about these comments being a double standard.

Second, as one who was a competitive swimmer in high school and college meaning I wore "competition" styled swim suits, actually smaller than the typical Speedo, I'm comfortable in that type of suit and dislike longer suits with all the fabric around the legs. Very uncomfortable for swimming.

Board shorts???? Why wear pants when swimming? Most ridiculous style of bathing suit, if you can call board shorts a bathing suit that, I've ever seen!!! Reminds me of those vintage pictures of bathing suits worn at the turn of the PREVIOUS century.

My present suit is like the orange one in the pictures that were posted, and Speedo does make a suit in this style. Mine is blue.

Lastly, women seem to wear suits styled for "showing off" rather than for swimming. Unfortunately there are too many women wearing "show off" suits that shouldn't be showing off. Women talk about guys "packages" (you see it on MFP all the time) but don't like seeing the shape through a bathing suit? You're a bunch of Hypocrites!!!

    There is only one answer.

    Board shorts.

Speedos are not attractive. They serve a purpose for elite Olympic swimmers because they allow better freedom of movement and streamlined swimming. They serve a purpose for bodybuilders in competition because they allow judges to see glute, quad, and hamstring definition.

If you are not wearing a speedo to swim in the Olympics or you haven't found yourself in a bodybuilding competition, please do not wear them.

As a woman who lives on a beach and sees all kinds, just put on the board shorts and show off your chest and back. We can make a determination as to the fitness of the rest of you by the fit of said shorts.

Oh, and trunks are for dudes over 55.

    ^This!!

I think some women should be aware that if they do not have the body for a two-piece or bikini they shouldn't wear one just like men should be aware if they cannot pull off the tiny trunks or a speedo. Women that get offended because someone mentions that a very large woman shouldn't be wearing a bikini are confusing to me. :noway:

Trunks. You can show off your upper body while still leaving something for the imagination. ;)

This wins. :D my imagination does juuuuuuuuust fine on its own.

I agree with that last post. Board shorts are pretty cool, trunks are ... well what my father used to wear, and speedos?! Bwahahaha!!!!

I agree with the "no speedos" verdict, but I wasn't aware there was a difference between swim trunks and board shorts?

  • No to the speedo! I can live with Trunks on certain men but I guess I'm a board short woman.
