I saw my doc yesterday to get a game plan with weight loss. We've got lab work to do, but I've green light to continue with new diet plan. (portion/selection control plan - no diet name so to speak)
She actually spent 45 minutes with me to discuss my issues.
Last year she connected me with a nutritionist that was a nice guy but I really wasn't satisfied with the visits. Seemed I'd go, get weighed and measured and he would just give me handouts with information I could get myself from the internet.
She offered to help however I would like to get assistance. So I chose to get back with her in two months for a followup on labs and weight loss, instead of trying another nutritionist.
She also offered up a medication that would assist in metabolism, but I declined.
Has anyone tried medication for weight loss?
I would much prefer to do this on my own, but am curious if anyone has had any experience with the meds.
Doc said it would only be something she would prescribe for 2-3 months.

I'm still trying to get into the habit to log in on food diary, I know it will help in the long run. And am still learning the site.

Best to all of you in your efforts.

Making up today for going over so badly yesterday; but it seems I was in some very good company ---and you know who you are, LOL! Better days ahead for all of us. Once again, no exercise.

Nothing special today; drove to the P.O. and forwarded some mail to my neighbor who is out of state with her daughter, stopped by the gym to pick up a book I loaned to one of the women who works there. Laundry, a little cleaning; you know, life in the fast lane all the time here.

DD and I got the movie "Argo" from Red Box to watch tonight...........I saw it in the theater but she hasn't seen it yet.

Supposed to be very hot the next few days........I swear that only a week ago I was wearing wool socks.

Well, dh is home from work.......we've eaten already but I need to get something for him.

Hugs to those who need them. Have a good evening, ladies!

:flowerforyou: I started thinking about what resolutions I might make for June and realized how many resolutions I’ve made since I started MFP and how many of them have become as automatic as showering and brushing my teeth. That is a pretty exciting conclusion.

:flowerforyou: Today we went to the peony farm and picked out five varieties to plant in our yard. Since we moved to our current neighborhood, I have admired the peonies in several yards and wished we had some. Finally after all the work last summer and this spring getting the yard cleaned up, we finally have places for them. What I didn’t realize was that the plants aren’t ready to be put in the ground until fall, so all we did today was choose the varieties we wanted and they’ll be delivered in the fall to be planted and then next summer we’ll have some flowers…….another exercise in patience…..here is the website so you can see all the great choices http://www.ilovepeonies.com/

:flowerforyou: I read The New Rules of Lifting for Women and learned a lot about weight training but since I don't go to the gym, it wasn't a sufficient resource for me........I started my weight training with the program in "Strong Women Stay Young" and now I'm finding additions and substitutions in "Thinner This Year"......i highly recommend both books. They contain a lot of useful information and weight training programs that can be done at home with not too much equipment (ankle weights and a few dumbbells)

 We got up early today to go to an early gathering before line dance class and will do the same tomorrow so I’m off to bed very soon.

Eileen - I have the brownest thumb on the face of the earth. The only thing I can't seem to kill are weeds. I kill even hearty plants. How I remember when my kids were in school, all the end-of-year activities. Then I usually said "well, things'll slow down in the summer", but they never did. Then in August I'd say "things'll slow down once school starts". But it never did. So sorry to hear about your FIL.

Joy - WTG girl! I remember I left my father's and got home (1-1/2 hrs) but right after I got home our cat was hit by a car. I was really upset, but my father was concerned because I didn't call him to let him know that I'd made it there safely. It sounds like MIL really wants you to have that coupon. Why not make her feel good, ask her to send it to you. When she asks if they honored it, you can just say "no" and does she want it back. Don't even take it on the cruise with you. At least she'll feel good.

DeeDee - how did I miss Noel's birthday? Give her an extra treat from me.

Had the Newcomer board meeting, had a breakfast for the committee heads. Very interesting. Then we had the senior bowling, worked on my handicap some. Now I'm home getting dinner ready. I feel so tired, and I think I know what it is, it's probably all the shoveling of rocks that's catching up with me. But I won't tell Vince that.

Did an hour of a DVD on the bosu today. Tomorrow I'll do Jillian Michael's Shred It With Weights DVD.

Made these mini strawberry shortcakes and will take it to mahjongg tonight for the gal whose birthday it will be. I've already accounted for one of them.

Liz - have a great day with your sister, have an extra piece of birthday cake (as long as you can). Hope dh and son aren't too sore!

grandmalle - have fun at the picnic! So sorry you're still in pain.l Love your pic

Kathy - good luck on the interview. Hope it's something for you. So sorry it didn't go the way you wanted.

Joy - some people are secretly jealous when you lose weight.

Lucy in DE - fabulous vacation you had. It was so wonderful to read how your behavior was different this time. You've come a long way baby!

Meg - you're taking such wonderful care of your dad.

Played mahjongg at this one gal's house. She had knee replacement surgery. Anyway, it'll be another gal's birthday Mon so I took some strawberry shortcake biscuits to her. I've never made whipped cream from scratch, it was pretty decent if I do say so myself. Bought some strawberries, too. Maj'd twice.

Well, going to go to bed now.

Well I have been really bad about posting to you wonderful supportive ladies and I am so sorry. I keep thinking I will wait until I have more time, but then that time doesn't come! So I am on my way out but no excuses I am sure a quick post will do.

I just love the longer days - just seem to pack more into it! Been out for several meals this week and really enjoyed them. One was to support her friend who received her decri nisi - not her choice but there we go. Also helping her lose weight - 8lbs in her first month - so proud of her!

I have quickly skimmed some posts and some of you are struggling with parents who are ill. I feel for you and wish you all well.

Off out later for a once a month meal with my slimming pals. It's such fun and I pick up great recipes too!

Looking forward to next week when the carpet in the hall and dinning room go down. Then new furniture can be delivered. Will have a grand opening with a celebratory Indian meal for friends. Ooh it always goes back to food doesn't it!! Lol but I just love good food!

So ladies - what ever you are doing today - keep logging, drink that water:drinker: keep moving and have fun:laugh:

Well, today I decided to finally try to start exercising again. And it was hard! I just went for a walk and one that I could normally do in an hour (4.27 miles) took 10 minutes longer than normal and I was exhausted when I got back. Coughing, coughing. It's going to take a bit. I thought about waiting but next week we have company coming and they want to hike Preikestolen so I need to be able to do that. Here is a link to one of the times that my hubby and I hiked it: http://www.ronandjoyinnorway.blogspot.com/2012/05/preikestolen.html. I'm just hoping and praying that she's not going to want to do this one: http://www.ronandjoyinnorway.blogspot.com/2012/07/kjerag.html. :grumble: I really DON'T think I'm up for that one yet!

Tigress - I pulled the Porterhouse steak, beef tenderloins, fresh salmon out of my cart and showed her that we are eating good food! And we're eating 5 times a day. We're eating better than we have in a LONG time with the benefit of losing weight. Seems like a win/win to me! Champagne vinegar .... sounds yummy!!

Heather - walking 14 miles over cliffs with steps? Oh my! Makes me tired just reading that. And I think you look WONDERFUL in your picture! Maybe when he rests up he'll notice. I  Crème brûlée. It is my favorite! I always thought since it is so light that it must be good for you. I looked up the recipe so I could make it and found out that a small Crème brûlée has almost 600 calories! YIKES! Good for you for only taking one bite. I'm not sure I could do that.

Janie - when does school end for you? My nieces in IL got out mid May but here in Norway it's not until almost the end of June.

Robin - at least it wasn't on the clean laundry!

Lucy - ice cream for breakfast? YUMMY!!!

Meg - I'm so glad your dad is doing better!!!

Lin - are you bothered by tornadoes?

Kathy - Here's hoping for a better day today. :drinker: My kids live in Beloit and Janesville, WI and we have a grandson in Milwaukee. I'll be home visiting them this summer, and picking up one of the grandkids to come to Norway with me for a month.

wizzywig - I think this is the first time I've read a post that you've written. I LOVE your picture! Here's to a better June! :drinker:

Joyce - wow, I'm tired just reading your post! Way to go!!

Katla - WAY TO GO! :flowerforyou:

grandmallie - have a wonderful day off of work!

newluna - a medicine to help with metabolism? I've never heard of that!

barbie - now I want to go out and plant peonies! They are beautiful!

exermom - well, that would have been a good solution. Where were you when she called? Strawberry shortcakes = YUMMY! Can you send me some?

Jo - I like longer days too, but I sure wish they would get any longer than they are already! I woke up at 6 needing the bathroom and it was SO bright outside. I couldn't get back to sleep because my body thought it was noon.

I got over 13000 steps yesterday so I am definately back on track. way too much sodium yesterday but that happens sometimes.

Ritter has been a good boy last night and this morning. We are trying to make some behaviour changes and it is very hard for him. I realize that I have spoiled my boys and he isn't used to being a dog. We are trying to get him to calm down and not be up in our laps constantly. He really isn't happy about it but he is trying.

Thank you all for being so supportive. I really appreciate each and everyone of you.

Hello all: Hope everyone is having a good week so far. We are having thunderstorms with short breaks in between all this week. I got out to see my horse last evening even though we had a tornado watch. Finally got some flowers planted this week although not many. At least I don't have to worry about watering them.

Kathy: I can so identify with your DH. I have just finished 4 weeks of medication, exercise and PT because my insurance would not pay for an MRI unless I did that. It is very frustrating not knowing exactly what is going on so treatment is very conservative. I do not understand how they expect you to treat something when you do not have a definite diagnosis. I am sending your DH and you good wishes and lots of patience. Sue in SD

NewLuna: DH got a medication from his diabetes specialist for weight loss last fall. It was not effective and had unpleasant side effects. DH stopped taking it and we both started using MFP. The MFP results have been positive for both of us.

Barbie: I envy that you’ll be able to have peonies. ( We should have a green with envy icon for times like this.) I don’t have enough space for peonies. I’ll just have to enjoy them in other people’s yards. You should see the ones in Butchart Gardens! If I lived where you do, I’d be grabbing the ferry to Victoria several times a year just to go to the garden.

Joy: It is great that you are doing so much better! :flowerforyou:

I had an interesting NSV yesterday evening. DH and I were out for an evening walk and ran into friends outside a newly reopened local restaurant. Cheryl couldn’t stop staring at me. Finally she said, “You’ve lost weight! How did you do it?” At another time, I might expand on the basic reply I gave her, “I’ve been working on it.” I told her I’ve been doing Yoga, riding my trike, walking and counting calories. DH agreed that I’ve been working hard. In front of the restaurant with other acquaintances, I didn’t want to go into it further. The conversation shifted to her adult daughter who is facing a double mastectomy in the near future. (Please put Kim in your prayers.) DH had an NSV yesterday, too. He wore a pair of pants he hasn’t been able to get into for several years. I tried to talk him into buying more new pants, but he didn’t like the selection and refused, for now. I’ll win this one eventually. I wore my size 18 pants for a LONG time before I would buy new, smaller ones.

    Have a great day!

I so envy that you can grow Peonies. We live on the Gulf Coast, zone 9a and cannot grow Peonies. We just got back from a trip to visit family in Maryland and I was so taken with the colors and the smells of their Peonies. I immediately came home to research if it was possible to grow but appears we have to mild of a winter.
I also say a beautiful white bearded iris on the trip also. And that also is one of those I cannot grow.

Looked at your profile. Your before and after pics are wonderful. Such an inspiration.

well I haven't gotten to the gym, yet, but went and got the car serviced and went grocery shopping.
I did pretty good,I did buy myself some things that I like..nonni's thin addictives are one of my favorites. I did buy snickers and milky way mini's unwrapped in medium size bags, but quickly came home and put them in snack bags at 1/2 the portion which is 4 pieces for 95 calories, same with the milky way's at 90 calories for 1/2 portion and then threw them in the freezer down stairs.. So If I really have a hankering for chocolate it is there.did buy stuff to make macaroni salad. but also bought fresh asparagus to grill with stuff on saterday.. going to get the salad out too. did buy some baked beans , and will make deviled eggs. me I will have a chicken burger on a deli thin and grilled asparagus... I am tryin really I am..
now that the groceries are put away it is off to mow the lawn. I t is going to be 90 today and muggy, so better get a move on, and dont worry I am staying hydrated..
Maybe no gym today( second day):grumble: but doing the lawn is exercise:happy:

I cannot imagine not having my Jazz on my lap, all 92lbs. It is an afternoon ritual to have dinner and then sit on Mom. We bought a reclining loveseat hoping she would take to the other side . . . ha, that didn't happen.
She will bark at me if I keep my laptop on my lap to long in the afternoon. If I don't move the laptop she will cautiously crawl up on my chest to get between me and the laptop. I generally concede if its that important. I know who has who trained.

Good news on the steps. You sound like you are knocking it out. The salt will flush out.
I'm working on getting a television set up in the same room with the elliptical so I can't say I'm bored working out.

New Luna. - medication to lose weight - aaargh! Well done for refusing it. You will do fine with us.:flowerforyou:
Wizzywig. - have you had your thyroid tested? My DIL had the same thing and found her thyroid level was low. A little medication sorted her out.
We have had a beautiful day with DH' s old friends. First we walked to an old pub in a classic English village through some pretty woods and had lunch. Then we caught the bus back and went for a walk along the cliff tops. Glorious sunny weather, but not too hot. This evening I feel as if I have had a HOLIDAY- that sleepy, windblown, sun soaked feeling. You don't get that too often in England! !  My exercise calories are good and I am looking forward to the frittata for supper that I am making with all our left over food before we go home tomorrow. I hope to find that I have not put on more than .5 of a lb.
Altogether a good week. Just one rainy day.
NSV- Have not lost weight, but have lost half an inch off my waist. Hooray! Must be all those transverse crunches! :drinker:

Excitement for the day..........found two wasps busy building a nest when I opened my car door to go out earlier in the little space where the door closes; dispatched nest with great care. Hope they go far, far away. Good thing it wasn't DD as she is very allergic to the point that she carries an epi-pen. This car gets driven rarely.........only when DD is home and takes my Camry as she doesn't like driving this car..........like a mini tank, according to my DH so he won't drive it either. I'm the only one who will touch it; which is sad beacause it's an 05 with less than 16,000mi. on it. At the time I bought it DD was in h.s. and we really needed a third car with her work sched. leaving me carless too often. I found it on Craigslist and it doesn't have anything wrong with it, but neither one of them can stand it. I guess you either love PT Cruisers or hate them.

Speaking of DD, she's got a long day at work today; did 7 to 12 assisting in surgery at vet. clinic; then works 1 to 9 at the pool lifeguarding. Can't believe she's leaving for the summer job this weekend.......and my car with her. I'm planning on going out and then renting a car to drive myself home as it's a 7-8 hr. trip. Had avoided her having a car at college proir to this but she'll need to go up to her full time college to work on her (hateful!!!!) tick research during the summer a couple times. I'm almost done with the Doxycycline from my own tick bite.

    Grandmallie.................lovely pic

Lizplus........hope all went well with your sister's b-day celebration

Hello to everyone else, oh, almost forgot; not sure who it was.......many, many yrs. ago we had a dog once that peed on my DH's uniform for work the next day during the night........that did NOT go over well

    Hi All,

Just caught up on posts. Only have a minute, have to get the exercise in to work off DQ lunch! :grumble: I admit I caved when DH called to meet there for lunch but at least I had a side salad instead of fries. We barely see each other anymore with the hours he works so it was nice to sit and talk for 30 min. We're facing some tough decisions with only his income at the moment, but at least now I feel like we're on the same page and can get through the tough stuff united as always. I really think I'm going to go to school in the fall and finally going to follow through this time! I did go to water zumba last night and even though my knee wasn't too happy at the time, it has settled down today and am off to do stretching and pilates in a few. I really think doing more exercise lately has helped me keep focused and keeping depression at bay!

Katla-Congrats on the size 10 pants!! I'm nowhere close to that yet but have dropped two pant sizes since last June so am still going in the right direction. Great NSV for your DH too!

Robin- You are definitely not the only one who spoils their dogs! My previous dogs were never as spoiled as my Benji (my Yorkie) is now. I think it's because I was never home quite as much as I am now with my furry boys now. He would not even walk on a leash until we got his brother, Murphy (our Cavalier rescue).

Sue- Your weather by you sounds just like our weather here in IL. We're under a tornado watch again until this evening and have had storms on and off all week long. Your horse looks beautiful! Thanks for the good wishes!! Still haven't even a call back from DH's doc on course of treatment since MRI was cancelled! :noway:

NewLuna- That's sooo funny! My dogs do the same thing. They climb in my lap and either nudge the laptop over or paw me until I move it!

YannieJannie - Glad it wasn't your DD having a run in with the wasps. We have some buzzing around in our garage but can't find the nest. :grumble:

Ok sitting too long gotta get my groove on Hugs,

    Hi all,

Well, I tried to catch up on the posts, but there were just too many of them, so I just went back two pages and we'll have to go from there. I feel like I need another vacation! Work is crazy and we volunteered at our Carnival, so after 8 hours at work, I go right to the Carnival for another 4 hours. Thank goodness we only volunteered two nights!

Every year, birds seem to build a nest under our upper deck, and sure enough, I saw two baby birds this morning. They must have hatched while we were away this past weekend. I'm not a big fan of birds (a phobia of mine), but it was sweet to see the mommy bird feeding those babies (from afar, that is...lol!)

The scale was down a little, so it seems like I actually gained one pound for all of that eating. I'm planning on it being gone by next week.

This past weekend was so cold that I was wearing a hoodie and a jacket to go to the boardwalk, and this week we're having a heat wave! I don't ever remember the weather being this crazy!

:flowerforyou: Meg - That hospital staff SHOULD be walking on eggshells around you! You should take this opportunity to get everything you can for your father. He deserves it!

 Kathy - So sorry to hear that the job you were offered wasn't what you were looking for. Maybe you were meant to take a different path. Good luck with your choice to continue your education.

 Joyce - You amaze me with your determination despite your MS. You should feel great about your progress!

:flowerforyou: Katla - Congrats on the size 10's! Whoot hoot!!!!

 Alison - Don't know why you wouldn't want to post your picture, but it's really nice to put a face to your name!

 NewLuna - Congrats on your decision to get healthy. It's been my experience to have dieted with medication in the past, but I can honestly say that if you intend to treat this as a lifestyle and not a diet, you really don't need medication. Before MFP I thought that my age was preventing me from losing weight. I justified my weight gain by blaming it on slow metabolism. But logging has helped me to see that the fact of the matter was that I was consuming way too many calories. When I made adjustments to my diet as per MFP's recommendations and added exercise, the weight came off. If I can do it, so can you!

:flowerforyou: Barbie - I had a peony in my garden in Philadelphia and I forgot how much I loved it! Now that I know they are planted in the fall, I'll have time to find a spot for one!

 Michele - You know, I always feel tired in the spring too. Must be the changes in the weather. I don't know about where you are, but the weather changes here have been pretty extreme!

 Jo - Nothing wrong with a celebratory meal. It'll be a good excuse to use those recipes you've been gathering!

 Joy - You need time to rebuild your strength after an illness like you had. Don't try and do too much at once. It'll come back in time.

 Robin - Your dog & mine sound like they have similar issues. Milo never has peed on dirty laundry (yet), but he has eaten my underwear on several occasions!

:drinker: Heather - Congrats on the NSV.....and on vacation too!

:noway: yanniejannie - Wasp nests in the car and tick bites too? Scary!!!

Congrats to everyone of you who are sticking with it through good times and bad. Healing thoughts for those who are dealing with illness. Welcome to all the newcomers.

    Hugs,
    Lucy in DE.
