I had a fraction of a proposal, but not the real thing (yet). My boyfriend and I had been together for about a year and my 21st birthday was coming up. I had been trying to plan a trip to Vegas with some family and friends to celebrate in a big way. Out of the blue, he started saying "I know something you don't know" and I'm a persistent person who wanted to know, so I kept asking him what it was. He was strong and kept saying he wouldn't tell me, so I asked for hints. He said "egg" and "one". i eventually connected the dots and asked if it was something to do with Vegas on my 21st birthday, which is when he told me he was planning to propose to me in Vegas on my 21st birthday. Shortly after we found out my grandma was terminally ill so we "postponed" Vegas and just went to Central City for the night instead. He never proposed, still hasn't (even though I turn 23 in July lol). I've tried to bring it up out of curiosity of why he changed his mind, but he changes the subject. So I have no idea what that means. But we're still together and happy, so I'm not sure what happened really, but I know he at least has the intention of marrying me one day.

    I can't find a puke emoticon.

Cute story though. I'm just bitter.

I'm thinking the world would be a lot easier to live in if we were all asexual blobs!

That sounds like no fun at all!

My fiance did a great job!

We had gone on a road trip last May to San Francisco from here in Kansas City. We didn't have any plans or anything besides the fact that we wanted to hit as much as we could on the way. Pikes Peak, the Grand Canyon, Vegas and on our way to Yosemite we found a little bitty town called June Lake, CA (LOOK IT UP!) it was absolutely BREATHTAKING. Up in the Sierra mountains, a crystal clear glacial lake at the bottom and the cutest little ski town you could imagine. Needless to say, It's all we talked about the rest of the trip. Over San Francisco, over Lake Tahoe, over everything.

Fast forward to February of this year, I had just gotten word of my new job. I had healed enough from my Compartment Syndrome Surgery and was back on my feet and we thought, "Okay, we've got like two weeks and I'm back to working full time." So, we booked a train this time and headed back out to Lake Tahoe and of course June Lake again.

He has always liked snowmobiles so we rented one and took it all over the trails. Then we found the vista point that overlooked the most amazing view of the mountains. Just breathtaking.

Now me, I'm snapping pictures, cracking jokes but noticed that he was just acting kind of weirdly...shy? Nervous? I was like what the heck is up? Although I just shrugged it off thinking it was just nerves from riding the snowmobile up a mountain.

Then after a little bit he calmed down and said to me, "Well my New Year's Resolution this year was to do something crazy...and this *gestures to the view* is it!" he paused, I laughed and agreed. Then he turned back to me and said, "Now its time to do something that isn't that crazy..." and he got down on one knee.

So of course I screamed from a mountain top!

The best part about it though wasn't even the proposal, nor the mountains, nor the fact that I was in snow pants, boots and a huge red helmet. It was the fact that the ring itself was my Great-Great Grandmother's wedding ring! He asked both of my parents, my grandparents, even my best friend and I had no idea whatsoever! My grandma had been holding onto it for the last 25 years for the right time to give it to me...and that day was definitely the right time.

    Damn...that is a badass story.

my husbands father proposed to his mother when they were in the car driving back from the naval base. he threw the ring box at her and said "you want this". for some reason she said yes.

my husband and i just crack up at that story, i think its too funny. when my husband and i were talking about marriage, it was a pretty much done deal, we just needed to get the ring. so the ring comes, and i just assumed he'd hand it to me, but instead, we were in the car and he pulled out the box, maneuvered himself down on one knee and asked me to marry him. it was very romantic, and funny.

I had bought the ring months before and was just waiting until the right moment. It was an early, cool morning and we were just alying around in bed (we lived together) and she was going on about something. I finally decided it was time so I asked her to play some hangman with me. We went through several rounds of miscellaneous words and finally I made the big one. It was "Will You Marry Me?" It only took her a few letters and she guessed it, but it took another few seconds for it to sink in. She just whelled up and looked at me. I slipped down to the side of the bed, grabbed the ring and on one knee asked again, Will you marry me?".

Yup. I thought it was pretty original. :)

Me and my partner always knew we would be getting married but he proposed properly when I was in the kitchen making dinner, I had my back turned to him and when I turned back around he was standing there with a ring in his hand.

Not the most romantic of gestures but I'm not one for soppy romance lol. If he'd have got down on one knee I think I'd have wished for the ground to swallow me up!

Been together for 4 1/2 years and married for 2 1/2

On Easter at a family get together.

He gathered everyone for an Easter Prayer. had all the kids get in this huge circle, each holding the most beautiful flower. I found this odd, since his family doesn't usually do a group prayer, but i thought it was sweet and in the Easter spirit, so I started snapping a few pictures of the kids. well the "prayer" was starting so i stopped taking photos and was walking away from him. Well his anoyyyyying brother was like "go take more pictures!" i snapped back "I already did!" he was like "go get some more!" I rolled my eyes and walked back to where my husband was standing a pretended to take pictures (Bro in law and i have a funny relationship lol) Husband started to talk.. he said a few things that didn't make sense at all (he was nervous)... then suddenly turned to me, got on his knee and pulled out a Golden egg covered in rhinestones and then he asked me :) all i could do was cry and nod yes as each kid handed me a flower until i had a HUGE bouquet :)

here's a blurry snippet from the video:

I had NO idea. AT ALLLLLL..

he picked the ring out himself... and it couldn't be more perfect.

We hit a year next Monday

    this is sweet!!

I did the proposing... ring and all. Sometimes I wish I didn't because as a woman it's nice to be the one who is pursued. Being married for 15 years (next month) and never getting proposed to or having a wedding (we did the courthouse thing) or a dress, sometimes sucks. Things worked out, and I don't think of myself as extremely materialistic (I think every girl has the right to be a little). At least we didn't start out our lives in debt from the wedding like most people do.

He took me to Paris, and proposed in Notre Dame during Christmas Eve mass. It sounded like angels were singing. Tourists behind us cried and cheered. I was hugged by a zillion people I never met before in my life... :)

Of course, I had a black eye that day (My boss at work slipped on the ice getting out of a car and slammed the door shut on my head trying to catch his balance. Long story, short. >_<), but other than that, it was perfect.

I could easily see how it would suck not having an actual "dress, bridesmaids, groomsmen, etc" type of wedding, but I totally agree with the debt part...It's nice to have a big wedding but if it means starting married life in debt, I'll pass.

He'd asked me about a hundred times before we started looking for a ring, of course I said yes every time :) He asked me all sorts of questions about what kind of ring I might want, we looked at pictures of some online, and then one day I was coming out of the nail salon and he was waiting in the car, hands me his phone, and says "What about this one?" and it was perfect! So we went to Robbins Brother's and found that exact one, had it custom ordered for my size/a bigger diamond, and then we waited. It took a few months to come in, but we got the call the day we were going to pick up our new puppy. We picked it up from the store, I ooh'd and ahh'd over it and reluctantly put it back in the box, and we drove a couple of hours there and back to get a bundle of cute corgi puppy love to take home. He said he didn't want to make me wait to wear it, so, while I was sitting on the couch with a warm, sleepy puppy, he kneeled in front of me and asked if I would be his wife. Yes yes yes :D I still cried. I knew it was coming and telling people he proposed in the living room might not sound romantic but it really was <3

We had a big new years eve party 1999/2000 with about 60 people. After the stroke of midnight he asked me down to the beach to get some air. I was a little tipsy... so I was jumping around playing in the water. He finally grabbed my arm, got down on one knee and proposed. When I said yes all our friends on the balcony started to clap and shoot off fireworks. It was pretty fricken awesome!
