i used to make 2 to 3 mixed drinks of oj strawberry banana juice with mango and pineapple rum and peach schnapps when i got home from work. i really hated my job. it also tore up my bladder though so now i may have a drink once or twice a week. unless i go out for a birthday or something, then i just drink all night.

Since I turned 21, I've either been nursing a baby or pregnant. At one point, I was both. I definitely don't drink when I'm pregnant, but when I'm nursing, maybe one drink every three months. If I drink more than that at one time, I pump the milk and throw it away.

Probably 2 or 3 alcoholic beverages per year, on separate occasions.

Never been a big drinker, I know how to have fun without being intoxicated and I like to know I won't be doing anything stupid. And alcohol has TONS of calories.
    ok I'll shut up now.
I'm glad someone agrees with me. I'm not bored just because I don't drink. On the contrary, I actually remember what I've done and have more power over myself. I don't like losing my judgment; it leads to bad situations.

I drink a fair bit. Not usually at home alone, that's usually just a little stubbie at about 2.7%, but when the guys are around for rehearsal, it's lager and spirits mostly. Wine if a particular friend is here.

I can and do drink a lot in one go, but over the week, most days are totally or nearly alcohol free. It does mean the staff at the local ask 'are you not drinking today?', but that's ok. They see me most when I am drinking, not the rest of the week, and I'm never drunk to the point of being incapable. Guess that's the nature of the business, though. Drink (and smoking) is normal.

Despite all the recommended levels per day (including a large red wine equating to a binge), the doctor has never been bothered by it - to them, despite this official government stuff, they've seen more damage sustained by people who report drinking less but ever day, rather than my account, which is nothing for most the week, then a lot on gigs. Mind you, they could just be grateful I'm not doing the stereotypical musician thing of hard drugs...

ZERO. It is poison. Hodgie x
while correlation is not always causation.
Moderate drinkers have less health problems and less chance of heart disease than nondrinkers and alcoholics

2 glasses of red wine at dinner. Trying not to have any but I enjoy it. I exercise every day golf also so I do have the extra calories. If I didn't then I probably would cut it out!

I drink daily. At least 2 beers after work and more on weekends. My mom quit drinking as she had a big problem with it apparently although as a child I did not notice anything different with her. Now she is in residential care with a stroke due to smoking so even though she hasn't drank in over 20 years she still got screwed. I work hard and I play semi hard . **** happens.

I love craft beers, and wine when I'm in the mood. I drink on average 7-15 units per week.

Our social group always involves drinks of some sort. Used to be a lot of beer for me almost every night. Since I started working out I found that I could not do the beer and still get up for a run, so I mainly drink vodka with water and lemon. Sometimes a bottle or so of wine. I have still been able to lose weight and get in shape without having to give up my social life.

That being said I have had a few bad situations lately with beer (which due to some life circumstances I have been bad and indulged in beer in recent weeks), I have found that if there is anything bothering me and I have beer I turn into a crying/angry mess so I am trying to stay away from it with varied success/failure.

There is alcoholism on both sides of my family, but I have always found that as long as I am paying attention to my moods and reactions to alcohol I am able to keep it under control. It is different for everyone though.

When I'm not dieting, I'll drink maybe a couple glasses of wine a week whenever I feel like it - more if I'm going out on the weekend. Much more.
But when I'm watching my weight I'll stick to maybe 3 or 4 drinks when I go out, and don't have a drink unless I have to in my spare time (ex. going for a drink with an old friends where it's socially called for). It's hard sometimes when it's something that clues together an occasion.

1-2 drinks 1 or 2 nights during the week and probably 5-8 drinks on Friday and Saturday, sometimes more sometimes less depending on what I'm doing.

I have a couple drinks most nights, more on the weekend. I record everything in my diary, so I don't drink as much as I did before joining MFP!!

I am used to having wine with dinner, every day. Some days I have switched it and rather have a gin tonic when I get home.
I never ever get drunk to the point of being 'pissed' or not remembering anything the next day.
I'd say 80% of the alcohol I consume is because I like it. Perhaps 20% is to lighten the mood and get tipsy. There is a balance - I am aware that a lot of college students my age drink to the point of passing out. Most young people are either like that or they don't drink at all (those who say "I can have fun without alcohol are never as fun as they think they are...).

Of course I know it is the total consumption that counts. But I calculate it into my diet and I do a detox now and then. Besides I've never done any of the other ****ty stuff young people do, like smoking, unprotected sex, you name it. So I figure...you gotta have a vice ;)

I wouldn't have a clue other than it being random and occasional and on those occasions quite moderate.

Several people in this thread (including the person you quoted) are able to not drink without being sanctimonious. Maybe you could learn from their examples.
