these are all geat! I guess I have a "mantra" but mine comes from singing. I listen to songs while I run that pump me up like Cher Loyd "I'm over the moon" She says "I'm over the moon, doing my thing, doing my thing, I'm over the moon doing my thing and I WON'T BACK DOWN!" Love that song I dropped 30 seconds from my last 5k just from listening to her music. My next 5k is on the 14th. I"m hoping to drop minutes this time0

Mine is completely stupid compared to all of these awesome, inspiring posts...so now I feel silly- but I say ( in the Dorie voice from Nemo) "Just keep swimming" over and over in my head when I run and want to quit...Works everytime!!0

I just started running this year and have done both a 5k and a 10k.... I've even let my friends talk me into doing a 1/2 marathon on Thanksgiving...... I think I'll use one of your more positive sayings...... Usually I just say "I will finish this race with on my feet and not in the back of an ambulance"....or "Don't fall out...you'll get trampled".....0

I'm newish to running, but on my last two 5K runs this has gotten me through:
I will not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.
 wait a minute. dune, right?
mine's not very philosophical: KEEP.GOING.KEEP.GOING.
Yup! The Litany Against Fear.0 -
Bump! This is great!0

"This block is gravy, this block is gravy"
LMAO. I am sure 'gravy' in this context means 'easy' but I literally thought gravy boats!! That is motivation enough0 -
bump for later xx0

I have a couple of them, both just brief mind checks to keep my *kitten* going:
1) Pain is temporary, glory is forever!
2) There's a big difference between WANTING to stop and NEEDING to stop... you've spent years doing what you wanted instead of what you needed.... no more.0 -
That would make me hungry"This block is gravy, this block is gravy"0
-
"Don't look now but there's a huge, ravenous dog chasing us!"0
-
Pain is weakness leaving the body.
I don't stop when I'm tired, I stop when I'm done.
Greatness isn't born, Greatness is made. Be Great!0 -
Being fat is hard, working out is hard, pick your hard!0
-
"Just do it!" always works to get me out the door.
Also, if I'm having trouble finishing, I tell myself "If you can't finish this, you'll never have the mental toughness to do ____ ." Insert next big goal (sub 2 hour half-marathon for me). It always gets me through to the end.0 -
I'm usually saying, "This is hurting, this is hurting, this is hurting, this is hurting...."0
-
I don't stop when I'm tired, I stop when I'm done.
Love this one!0 -
Mine is "You're not getting home any quicker by walking!"0
-
sweat is fat crying!0

You can beat this pain. You've felt this before and you've run on through it. This is your challenge and you will win it.
^ And on like that while visualizing a sort of a fog that blocks my path, but instead of stopping in front of it I run on through it. I stop when the pain's subsided and do it again when it comes back.0 -
Love these -- esp. the Wanting vs Needing to stop
Mine is: If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got (from my kids ski coach)0 -
Love these !!!0
