Thanks Tikafly! I will try those authors / books out!

As far as 50 Shades goes.......

I LOVED the books. But, if you are looking to read them because of the good writing, you are going to be disappointed. The writing is not prize winning material (although she never claimed it to be). I love the story behind it all. The relationship between the main characters is what really intregued me. The sex scenes were ok. It depends on how knowledgable you are in SMBD. If you know a lot about it, you will not be shocked. But if you are new to that world it may shock you...also if you are kinda prudish it may shock you!

I tell everyone to give it a try. If you don't like it....stop reading it! It's that simple. And if you like it (as I did)....read it over and over and over again! Hehe

The 1st one was OK. Loved the 2nd one bc there was an actual story behind it. Im suffering through the last 1. Im just not into it anymore. She is a broken record! However I do LOVE Christian!!!

I agree 100%. I actually stopped half way through the 3rd because it was so painful to read.

I enjoyed it. You'll find a lot of people who complain about the writing, but E L James doesn't claim to be a writer. I liked the story and it opened my eyes to a lot of stuff. My husband is VERY happy....hahaha!

If you want a good follow-up, read Bared to You by Sylvia James. I honestly can't decide between Christian Grey and Gideon Cross. YUM!

Oh yes!!!! Bared to you is an awesome read!! Trying to decide between Christian Grey and Gideon Cross is hard though! Although I am leaning more towards Gideon!!!

I have no idea why women are lusting over an abusive man.

There are a lot of "50 Shades" Haters, I am NOT one. LOVED THEM. All 3 books in 4 days and I told everybody it was the best diet because I didn't even want to stop reading to eat.

Never know if its for you until you try.....

Excuse me....gotta go braid my hair now.

I read the first and second ones quickly but I am burning out so badly on the 3rd one. Ana is just so obnoxious in it. Who do you think should play them in the movies?

    my picks are
    christian: ian somerhalder
    ana: alexis bledel
    kate: emily vancamp
    elliot: alexander skarsgard

Read them, loved the first, liked the second, hated the third. Sex was steamy, but I've seen it done better. It's literary junk food.

Just started the first book and am loving it! Got to one part that was a little shocking "the contract"..but have since gotten over it. The story is great so far!

Honestly.. some of the worst stuff I've ever read. And I went into it knowing the writing would be crap.. I was just in it for the sex scenes (yes I admit it)..and quite frankly - they were boring! Too often, same descriptions, and unbelievable in some cases (seriously..she has a mind-blowing orgasm EVERY SINGLE TIME?).

Dude was more than a little crazy/psycho too - I wanted to want to love/rescue the character.. but just didn't find him attractive at all!

I haven't read it because it's Twilight Fanfiction that had the names changed and got published.. Plus there's no story and the way it describes certain kinks is just... way off.

I read bits and pieces just to see what it was all about. Some of the sex scenes were hot but I agree. The writing isn't very good. It got old quick and i put it down.

I'm reading the first one and at the moment I absolutely hate it. I can't get into it, I don't care about the characters, I don't feel like there is any story line and I think its terribly written.

I know most people love it and can't put it down, but it doesn't do it for me.

    My thoughts exactly.
  • Oh neat, another 50 shades thread. :/

Agreed completely. This blog has a really funny summary of each chapter.

I liked the first book, I'm in the second, and have the third on hand. I really dont care how well the author writes with this type of novel. Get me heated up so I can go and show my husband a thing or two :blushing:

I liked them! Seems like I was the last to read them!

Haven't read it, I'm afraid it's been too over hyped for me and I'd just be disappointed. I may check out some of the others mentioned here though. :)

Loved them! I read all three in about 5 days.
I'm excited to see who they'll pick for the movie characters.
There were quite a few annoyances re: the writing, but the story (yes, there was actually a storyline...lol) was gripping enough to hold my attention. ;)
  • Read all three. Personally didnt think they were all the great... And I sure as heck dont want either of my daughters to read these books when they get older. Some things should not be brought into the day light..
