Tuna Fish: What do you do with it w/o the mayo?????

Looking to find out what everyone does with their tuna?? I am looking to get more Protein without all the fat from mayo... Can't wait to hear your suggestions.

    Eat it plain? Use fat free greek yogurt? I dunno, I always use a light mayo. You could use avocado, that's tasty, and although it has fat, it has other good stuff, too. You need fat. . .
  • I use light mayo (helmans-35 cal per serving) and very little of it (just enough to have it stick together). It's how I've always eaten tuna and tastes good to me!

    I put some mustard on it and choke it down. Not because mustard is delicious, but IMO it tastes a little less weird than plain, canned tuna.

    Throw it in a salad
    If in a sandwich, make a tuna melt with cheese and pickles, a bit of salt and pepper :)

    Mix in an egg and 1/4 cup of fine bread crumbs and then cook it up.
    Mix some salsa in it

    teaspoon lite miracle whip, teaspoon mustard, little onion and pickle relish
    rolled up in roman lettuce. YUM!!

    I still use a little mayo, but I add plain yogurt in place of most of the mayo for tuna salad. I also eat it plain or in a lettuce salad with little olive oil and vinegar for dressing.

    HUMMUS! I did this the other day randomly, and it was soooo delicious. I am also a mayo-aholic, so the hummus is a nice substitute!
  • If I am omitting, or am out of mayo to have with my tuna fish, I add in more celery, some sea salt, and lemon juice. If I have some plain Greek yogurt, I might consider whipping about a Tablespoon of that up and then using that as a binding agent! Hope I helped some. :smile:

    I love tuna w/out mayo.
    My favorite:
    Tuna with diced cucumber, diced tomato, avocado and a little wasabe. Wrap up in wheat tortilla. delicious.

  • A little olive oil with lemon juice and fresh cracked pepper - capers are good with it this way, too if you like them!

    Hummus is awesome with it

    THIS! I found this out by experimenting, because I HATE mayo, but love tuna, and love hummus. A flavored hummus is awesome - I love jalapeno with tuna. I put avocado and pickles with some toasted bread. Favorite. Sandwich. Ever.

    I pretty much sub Greek yog for anything that has mayo in it. I've even made potato salad dressed with olive oil, Greek yog and just enough mayo that my family thinks it's normal potato salad.

    A little bit of hummus.

    I use garlic hummus 2 tb = 70 calories. I make that with two cans of tuna.

    with salsa, or egg, or ontop of a salad....for fewer calories you can use mustard , it does actually taste alright :tongue:

    If I want a tuna sandwhich/wrap I mix it with mustard.

    Or I buy the little cans of flavored tuna and eat it with crackers or a wrap.

    Funny, I'm eating tuna right now without mayo for the very first time.

    I actually hate, HATE, hate mayo. I think it's the most disgusting thing EVER, but I always put a tiiiiiny bit in my tuna to keep it from being so dry. Today, I used Greek yogurt. I didn't use much (maybe a teaspoon or so), but in the tiny amount I used, there is no fat, 17 calories, and 3g of protein. Didn't affect the taste at all. :)
