Ugh. I had a blueberry muffin this morning. Lots of sugar. And calories. It was good...but not that good.

    *hangs her head in shame*

I just had homemade banana bread muffin. I just sat and did the math in my head (it took me a minute... (lets see, if there's 4 tablespoons in a quarter cup, and three teaspoons per tablespoon... etc). I figured it out to be two teaspoons of sugar per muffin. And that was with me halfing the sugar amounts. Holy crapola! And here I was thinking I made them all healthy with my soy yogurt in place of oil and 50/50 flour instead of all purpose, and by halfing the sugar. Well, I'm still not gonna give them up. They give me pleasure, and if I stick to just one, it'll all be ok...

Or so I tell myself. We'll see how I do the rest of the day with added sugars. At the end of the day, I'll figure out if I can count this as day 2 or not... We have a swim team banquet tonight. I was struggling with what to take, our grade is supposed to bring side salads. Last year I took broccoli cheese salad, but it's a no-no this year with the allergies. I thought about a taco salad, but it's got added cheese (although I could take a small container with no cheese for me). Finally decided on chinese coleslaw. No nutritional value hardly, because of the ramen, but it's something I can eat. I think. Shoot, I forgot to read the ramen ingredients. Dang. It can't have milk or eggs in it, can it? There's no nutritional value to them! lol... Guess I better go read the list.

Hee hee Forgot that I was going on about the banquet... The seniors are bringing desserts, so I know I'll be tempted. I will do my best. Sugar Shun On!

Yeah, muffins are awful for you! The blueberries were good for me though...mine was a Costco muffin...aka huge. Ugh. Oh well. I'm over it and feeling better.

Cheryl, that is moi in the AV. Found the only stinkin' picture of me, basically, that my dipsh!t mother had taken of me as a child. Last child, only daughter...you'd think there'd be a couple more pics layin' around, eh?

But, am I bitter? nahhhhhhhhhhh.

I didn't say no the Devil Dogs. I said just one. And no more. I'm saying yes to teh sweets, in controlled portions. Otherwise, I spin out of control when I get them. Idiot that I can be.

    Later, my sweets!

I think you have to kinda do controlled portions, if you have a sweet tooth. Just not all the time. I am trying to just avoid them altogether b/c if I don't, then I pig out.

Well, not if I'm with family or friends. But at work or alone? Watch out! I'll eat everything!

Hope I can still join the sugar is not my friend challenge. I am newbie to mfp, and sure need support from others who are having a tough time getting rid of the evil white sugar! Have lost 5 lbs so far, and have been off sugar since 1/1. At least I haven't dipped into the sugar bowl since the cookie baking, eating fest of December 09! So, am I a member just by posting this reply?

I don't imagine muffins are all awful for you... When I sat and thought about the sugar, two teaspoons seemed like a lot. But all the other ingredients in mine aren't so bad... 50/50 flour (haven't worked myself to the really healthy stuff yet), soy yogurt (used to use fage before allergies), egg replacer (once again, used a real egg before allergies), bananas, vanilla, sugar, walnuts, baking soda and salt. Nothing too bad in there. The calories are only 140 for one muffin. Or at least they were the first time I made them. Might be less now with all the tweaks.

I would imagine the muffin from Costco might be worse, because of the size and ingredient list...

Maybe we all ought to find our pics from when we were li'l dumplin's and post them. Wouldn't that be a hoot! I have one where I think my hair is in braids (or pigtails that were then curled, can't remember exactly) and I'm wearing a pink dress with an embroidered outline of Holly Hobby on it. hee hee

Such an adooooorable trip down memory lane!

Put two muffins side by side, and look at them. That is what your rear end will look like if you keep eating them....all overflowing out of the container! I know this from personal experience, and months of eating nothing but muffins for breaky during my pregnancy. LOL.

Well, fortunately, I do not eat them often at all.

However, your image may keep me from eating them ever.

    Unless I make them myself.

Unless you're putting her Costco muffin (large) next to my muffin made in my tin at home (small).

That would be one funny looking rear end.

Either way, I guess I'm lucky I don't eat them every day. Just for two or three days. By then, the kids have cleaned me out. Sheesh, I don't know how they can eat two at a time. Those things are thick!

Well, yesterday involved refined sugar. I'm still calling it a success, because I made it 15 days before I had any sugar, and that is a record for me.

Also, even though I had a sweet at the party, it was actually very brilliantly portioned controlled, as it was served on spoons. I had two spoons of Brazilian custard (which I had not tried before, and wanted to taste. . .it was totally worth it. One chocolate, one coconut and then I thought "that's enough" and stopped.) The party had all of this lovingly prepared Brazilian food, and everything was so amazing, new and fun.

    Re-booting until Feb. 1st. . .no sugar.

Wow, Viv, that's a huge success! 15 days, woot woot! Good for you for listening to yourself when you said "that's enought".

I didn't even walk near the dessert table last night, myself. By the way, in case you're wondering, ramen noodles do have milk product in them.... lol Everything there had cheese melted on it, or dressings and dips. There was one german dish, which was a peice of beef that had been wrapped around onions and cabbage and a vegetable that I couldn't tell what it was (it kind of looked like a pickle, but didn't taste like it). That sat in a bed of gravy. I asked the people who brought it, but they didn't know what was in it, they had someone make it for them. (we have a german foreign exchange student on the team, and they wanted to surprise him with a "home cooked" german meal). I had one of those beefy rolls, some raw broccoli and cauliflower, a salad made with dark green lettuce, mandarin oranges and peanuts with a brownish pink dressing. And I avoided dessert table!

I went to a Casino on Thursday and you know how they have those beautiful buffets! Ooooooooooohhh no!

Our friend who comped the concert tickets and the room also gave carte blanche to the food.

I took some steamed veggies and a small slice of pizza. The pizza sucked.... greasy to get you drinking I guess!

The big point is I totally avoided the chocolate fountain and scruptious desserts being presented at the other end!!

Ate too much, had some beers, danced a LOT and had a great time, but didnt eat sugar!

    Sugar is not my friend.

I did enjoy a very nice, controlled 2 tablespoons of M&Ms last night. Ate them one at a time (you know, instead of by the handful all at once) and they were good. Didn't want any more, so I didn't have any more. Not avoided because I wanted them, but controlled...AND, most importantly, it didn't lead to an all out sugar binge. Super proud.

Still doing the coffee without sweetener -just some half and half- and I have discovered that I really enjoy it much more. I get to truly enjoy the taste of the coffee. I'm almost out of my Folger's, so I'll be buying some more...but I think I'll switch. I've noticed that it is just a little bitter. Probably going to treat myself to some Dunkin Donuts decaf -that's my favorite. Mmmm. I never thought I could -or would- give up my sweet coffee, now I don't even think I would like the sugary stuff. Oh well, guess I just won't be splurging on the lattes. Don't miss it much, anyhow.

Hi Maxine! No rules here, just sharing thoughts about sugar. You don't have to join, or even post, but it is helpful for us that come here daily and share our experiences. We are all have different thoughts about what is "okay" for us, sugar-wise.

Kelly, no harm no foul.

M - love it on the story behind the av. AND one Devil Dog is infinitely better than the 3 or 4 you probably used to have.

V - nice job on your 15 days. And you knew you were going to have sweets, so, why not? Like I said, we all know ourselves well enough to know how far we can push it.

Shuntae - I stopped putting sugar in coffee a year and a half ago (well, it used to be Hersheys - not even sugar) and I love my coffee now with only half & half. My insanely skinny ex-boss has her coffee that way. But she's one of those who has one mini-size Hersheys Dark Chocolate a day, too.:grumble:

Jeannie - The desserts at the buffet are the main reason I go to Vegas four times a year. Well, that and the dolphins. smiley_eat-1.gif

Shuntae- what is this you speak of about eating M&M's one at a time? I thought they were meant to pop a handful in at a time! Good job! When you first said you ate 2 Tbsp of them, I thought, one gulp, gone. Glad you enjoyed yours.
