I wish this thread existed back in Nov. I have lost 116lbs so far, got about 30 more to go to reach my goal. My goal for Tues was to run 6 miles. Goal accomplished.

@Helenatrandom I don't think there's much you can do about people who are determined to be grumpy! That pedicure sounds like the best plan.

@Robin -- I think the new name is doing the trick, people think it's your personal thread! Brilliant. And welcome newbies, we do need a few.

@Naceto -- it's really encouraging to hear that you feel so good!

@Jana -- I find that when I'm really strict with cals and workouts, it sometimes takes a few days to show up on the scale. Especially workouts - maybe it's something to do with the muscles. Keep at it, and doing measurements should work too.

@skinnyjeanz -- I have stopped buying Nutella because my *kids* eat it out of the jar with a spoon. And I laughed at my sister-in-law because she used to hide her jar at the bottom of the All Bran packet to keep my brother away from it!

@Annie -- I love hearing about people's successes; it's so not bragging! Well done on running for 35 minutes. I can manage about 35 seconds...

@Lana -- I think I'd get very shirty if any of my male relatives made comments about my weight. Or say things like 'tell you what; I'll slim down just as soon as your hair grows back'. But that would be bad... But seriously, what makes people think this sort of behaviour is acceptable?

@Andrea -- good luck with the bariatric specialist. I'm on here because several of my friends have had surgery and I was starting to think about it, and then thought that alternatively I could try *eating less* and *exercising more*, and then log what I do... and if I then needed to go to the doctor and say 'dieting doesn't work for me', I'd have the evidence to support getting the surgery on the NHS. Though so far, touch wood, eating less and exercising more is working ok.

@Tara -- congratulations on ONEderland!!! So excited for you. Hope to be there myself, oh, around about Christmas time maybe?

The tiniest of NSVs really -- having destroyed my ancient trainers by playing too much badminton, I bought some New Balance shoes online (because they are the same size as my running shoes, and I know that *they* fit). They do fit perfectly, and we actually went off to play badminton yesterday and my feet didn't hurt at all at any point. They always did hurt a little bit in the old ones. I have tiny little feet for my massive pudgy body, so shoes are a big issue for me.

Tuesday goal -- I have another long festival this weekend, the last big one of the summer. I did ok logging last week, so I'm hoping that I can keep that up. But this time I have a goal to drink a teensy tiny bit less beer. I know it's the holidays, and I don't normally do this, but I drank 30 pints of ale in 8 days, which is about 26 pints more than the most my rhematologist would recommend. There's logging for you. Still keeping on on making sure that cardio happens, and at Towersey Festival that means I have to dance every day (either in a ceilidh or a dance workshop). Towersey is one of those festivals where you can go to a dance workshop in the morning, a lunchtime ceilidh, a dance workshop in the afternoon, a tea dance, an evening ceilidh, and a late night rave/ceilidh, so I won't be short of opportunities.

    Tuesday Goals:

Yesterday was a good day at work, but I was a little overwhelmed with everything that I needed to get done. I worked until about 10:30 last night and managed to get a pretty good handle on things. I still have about 6 stacks of papers to grade (25 per stack), but it's okay. I know I'll get it done in plenty of time.

On a better note, the bad mood is gone. Not sure what triggered it. I'm going to just assume it was because I really haven't slept well the last few nights. (Last night was MUCH better and I plan on being in bed by 9 tonight.)

My goals for the week are:
~ Get the scale to move, even if it is just one pound! (it's been pretty stagnant lately)
~ Drink more water. (I am drinking between 8-10 cups and I'm STILL thirsty!)
~ Stay under my calories all week/weekend again.
~ Take a night for some "me" time. (Mani/Pedi/Face Mask/Exfoliate/Etc)
~ Nail that blasted 20 minute run all the way through!
(If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away." ~ Henry David Thoreau)

I hope everyone had a great day! Big congrats out to those with NSV's and SV's! I'm sending up a prayer for all of you struggling or hurting. :)

"It is today that your best work can be done and not some future day or future year."~ Unknown

Hi everyone I am so happy to see all the victories that have been posted. My sympathies to the ones that are in pain. I have been dealing with chronic pain for a few years now but never been diagnosed as to the cause. Tests cost money and no insurance, so there it is. Now we have the insurance so maybe we will see though I am hoping to control it now with eating and exercise since I have finally committed myself to this. I am cnstantly experimenting with healthy food trying to get as much flavor as possible so tht I will stick with the healthier foods and I think I got a winner for lunch. I used leftover chicken sausage and sauerkraut and made a rueban type pizza with flatbread. It was awesome. My main goal for this week is to stay true to my exercising. I am thinking about getting a bike. Not sure yet. Balance has never ben my strong point, but was thinking I might be able to go longer then 10 min on a bike since it shouldnt hurt my lower back as much. Any bikers out there got any good advice on this. It would be greatly appreciated.
So good luck to everyone on their goals. I know we all can do it. You are all an inspirational awesome bunch of people.

I think it's Tuesday still, right? Jeez - I just can't imagine what a "real" internship would be like on days like today! Ha!

So my goals for this week are "simple." Make a menu plan for next week and stick to it. As I mentioned earlier, I am staring my month of inpatient medicine, therefore will be working 6 - 12 hour days in a row...with a day off, followed by 8 - 12 hour days. YUCK! Anyhoo, I got some great breakfast ideas from you all the other day! Thanks! I just went to Target and got the vanilla whey powder (never really been a chocoholic) and plan to make smoothies or mix it in with some oatmeal to bulk it up a little! I'm also going to experience with mini quiches (thanks to whoever gave me that idea!) Lunches will just be whatever I can find at the hospital...hopefully it won't be too bad. I have only eaten there once, and it was ok but it was also a special BBQ day.

I'm still hoping to make it to the gym for at least 30mins on the treadmill 3 days a week during this. I'm hoping if I get off at 7 I can be at the gym by 730 and home by 830-845ish. I know that I won't want to at all this month. So that is why this goal of menu planning is actually kind of daunting. I'm thinking it might be A LOT of cereal for dinner this month. Or PB&J.

OH and bummer news - so I signed up for 2 5ks this fall. Sept 22 and Oct 3. And I just found out today there is going to be a hospital softball tournament after the Sept 22 run/walk. I was so excited, I almost signed up. But then I looked at my calendar, and all of a sudden there is a new work meeting on my calendar! I need to pray about this tonight and possibly bring up a change of meeting time!

Glad to see everyone so excited to make changes in their lives for the better. I was just talking to a friend today about how hard it is to keep up the hard work once things are almost to or where we want them to be. Not that I am close to that, but it got me thinking about how much I would love to keep up with you all even after we have all lost those pesky 100+ pounds!

@jt--I find that riding the stationary bike at the gym seems to put MORE strain on my lower back than walking or running, but I don't have any back problems. Maybe others with back issues will be more helpful, but I would think a recumbent bike would put the least strain on your back. In any case, I would definitely see if you can do a "test drive" before spending any money.

@bohemian--have fun at Towersey! I think dancing away the beer calories is a great plan!

@aug--I can't wait until my arms are buff enough to challenge you to a "gun" fight! Mine are getting there, but the "batwings" are still trying to take flight. :grumble:

@taratruex--WHOOHOO!!! Congrats!! So happy for you! :drinker: :drinker:

@andrea--hope your meeting goes well tonight and don't worry if you don't remember every detail, I'm sure you can call the office with any questions or if you need clarification about anything.

@nich--glad you are enjoying the elliptical! I used to love it, but it did quite a number on my hip, so I only use it occasionally now. Also, great NSV with your co-worker!! :flowerforyou:

@kah--welcome back! can't wait to hear details about your trip!

@christine--sorry you are in pain  --I admire your desire to reduce your dependence on the meds, but it sounds like you still need the Ambien for the time being. If it allows you more movement, then ultimately it's helping you reach a point when you won't need it anymore.

    Tuesday Goal update:
I went to the gym and mowed the lawn, so 2 out of 3 goals accomplished. I will get the snacks together after I finish up on here. I walked Gunner (1.5 miles), then at the gym I ran 2.25 miles. I was very excited b/c I managed 6mph for 8 minutes straight! I then walked 2 min., ran 6mph for 6 min., walked 2 min., ran 6mph for 4 min., and finished with a 3 min. walk. I also did 40 minutes on the weight machines and rode the stationary bike for 2 miles. When I got home, I spent an hour mowing the lawn and another hour pulling weeds. All in all, I burned over 1800 calories (and I didn't even count the cleaning I did this morning!).

Needless to say, I am in a calorie deficit even after eating 9 ounces of London broil for dinner. I have some brownies left over from my Milwaukee trip last weekend. I already had 1 for breakfast, but I decided to have another. I resisted at first, but I figure better to get them out of the way when I have so many calories to spare. Now, there is just 1 left and I will tell my hubby to eat it, so temptation gone! Even after the brownie, I'm at -179 cal. so I will need to figure out what HEALTHY evening snacks will help round out my food diary. I know I won't eat back all of the calories, but I really want to make sure I get at least 90g of protein for the day. I'm at 80 now, so it shouldn't be too difficult.

Hi y'all! Busy day today... Tuesday is not only "Tuesday Goals", but it is also piano lessons night for my son... so I am always in a crunch.

I am glad some of you found a chuckle from my Taco Bell poetry... Some day I may share my "Silly Poem About a Tomato Plant" Or I may save you from my silliness... well, at least I'll save you from it for now.

Exercise - Yesterday, I was able to take my normal walk with NO PAIN. I had to force myself to go really slow up the hill, where I start out, but once I got to the top, I felt great! YAY

I have found drinking to be my new addiction. I drink with any negative emotion I feel. I drink when I feel up, but I drink more when I feel down. Also with physical pain, I drink. If my head or hip starts to ache, I drink. I am sticking true to my water goal and drinking 10 glasses a day, at minimum. I think it is a pretty good addiction to have.

I have to run the kid to piano... I hope you all have a wonderful day!!! Congratulations on your successes! If you don't think you have one, check again... There is always something to feel grateful for. Our first success each day- opening our eyes and taking a breath. :flowerforyou: Thank you all for being here! You are the best. :flowerforyou:

Now take a drink... :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker:

Welcome to the new people who have jumped in. This is a great group of people.

nichlosjv- I agree with you completely about sticking with this group after I met that goal. Still have a long way to go. This group has become like an extended family to me. I enjoy reading about everyone's successes and struggles and I look forward to getting on here every night and checking in with everyone. I like your idea about menu planning. You can always make a few things for lunch and freeze them on your day off. Then you would have lunch for a few days as well. You can also cook a few pieces of chicken and take that for lunch and get a salad at the hospital. Good luck with your schedule this month.

@jt- Regarding the bike- make sure you have it set up properly with regards to your height and leg length. That may help reduce the strain on your back. The recumbent bike is also a good suggestion.

@janna- Love taking the me time. I will be doing the same thing.

@Annie- Congrats on your running. You are doing a great job with it.

Goals- I will do my best to avoid the doughnut and bagels that will be at school the rest of this week (2 more days of meetings- this is a typically start of the school year- feed the teachers and they will do better with all hours of meetings each day). Today, we had doughnuts for breakfast and I could not resist since I was hungry and it was present. I rationalized that I would exercise it off later today. Well, once I got home I was to tired to workout and my body wanted a day of rest- however my brain was trying to get me to workout. My body won out tonight so no exercise but I will make up for it tomorrow. Trainer workout tomorrow so that means I will have him to kick my butt!!! I just hope that I am not to tired to workout like I was tonight.

This leads to my next goal- I need to get in the habit of going to the gym directly from work. If I don't go from work then I don't want to leave the house again once I get home. If I sit down then I am done for the night. I also want to mix in a social life with my work and exercise schedule. Not going to be easy but I will find a way to make it happen.

@naceto I love the poem, even though I don't have any idea what taco bell food tastes like (there aren't any in the UK)

    Maybe I can translate
Taco Bell is to real mexican food as the greasiest fish&chip truck is to "British Cuisine". It's edible, but not the real thing.

Well, since Tuesday is almost over, the day just got by me. I did make it to the gym at 6 this morning, which is right on track. I finally started to add in some weight training focusing on my arms. I may be a little sore tomorrow, but it felt great!

I love seeing a couple of new folks posts who have already lost 100+ or close to it. AWESOME JOB!!! I know myself and many others will take any bit of advice you can give. Plus, we can't wait to watch you finish your journey and hit your goals. I know you're going to do it!!!!

Love reading everyone's updates. Since I'm still learning, I'm not very good at responding to certain folks, but I'll get there. We definitely have a lot of us and I know some of you have been together a long time. I can't wait to build those friendships as well.

Let's have an AWESOME Hump Day!!!!!

Tuesday goals: right now, just survivng work at the moment. I have three huge rooms to clean out and organize while one of my employees is on vacation (something I've been trying to get him to do for *months*).

Plus my own work, plus having my LPN out for two weeks (during a new employee orientation cycle, mind you).

    Sorry for whining.....

@laurie--I know what you mean about the school feeding the teachers to try to placate us. Seriously admin., keep your doughnuts and stale bagels and give me just 1 hour out of the day tomorrow to get ready for students! Oh and I totally agree with you about working out right after work. I have to walk in the door and change into my workout clothes right away, then walk my dog and head to the gym. Like you, if I sit down (even after changing clothes) I won't get back up.

@nicole--glad your hip is cooperating and you have a new addiction!

@nichols--I agree, I can't imagine NOT keeping in touch with all of the friends I've made in this group. I'm lucky to have a lot of wonderful friends and family ITRW, but sometimes I wish the people in this group weren't all so spread out. I'll think about going somewhere or doing something and one of you guys will pop into my head, and I'll think "I bet so and so would love to do that" but then I'm like "oh, but she lives all the way across the country, duh!" For example, just today I saw a Groupon for half off of zip-lining and the only person I could think of who would do it with me is Laurie, but she's all the way on the East Coast!

I just found this thread and would love to participate. I need motivation! I have been on my journey for a year now and seem to be back paddling. I am determined to continue this lifelong journey but it get difficult at times. For the past 3-4 months I have been gaining and losing the same 5-7 pounds due to lack of motiviation. Is everyone just posting to the thread on how they are doing?

Hey everyone! I really like how this thread/group/awesome collective is set up and I'm jumping on your bandwagon! It's nice to see positivity and intelligence. :) I didn't give myself a number of pounds to lose, I gave myself a rough approximation of a size I'd like to see but the way I have it figured, I needed to lose about 120lbs. So today is "Goal" day? Are we talking for the week or for life? This process is all about small steps for me, so I'll assume short term goals.

    Tuesday Goal(s):
    1) Run a full mile. I've been hesitant to do this because I'm coming off of 2 herniated discs and have a bum knee but I've been working up to it and have decided that Thursday is the day I attempt it. :)

    2) Go buy new underwear. I know, I know, TMI but seriously, I have yet to replace the enormous parachutes I've been rocking since I was 320. Zumba is pretty difficult when you have to pick extra fabric every 5 or 6 steps.

    3) Make a birthday cake using fondant. I've never used it before, but I've been begged/pestered/threatened into doing it and darn it, I'm gonna try. I'll let you know how all that nonsense works out.

That's all I've got. If I'm doing this wrong, please let me know. :) Have a good night everybody!
