Well, yesterday involved refined sugar. I'm still calling it a success, because I made it 15 days before I had any sugar, and that is a record for me.

Also, even though I had a sweet at the party, it was actually very brilliantly portioned controlled, as it was served on spoons. I had two spoons of Brazilian custard (which I had not tried before, and wanted to taste. . .it was totally worth it. One chocolate, one coconut and then I thought "that's enough" and stopped.) The party had all of this lovingly prepared Brazilian food, and everything was so amazing, new and fun.

    Re-booting until Feb. 1st. . .no sugar.

Wow, Viv, that's a huge success! 15 days, woot woot! Good for you for listening to yourself when you said "that's enought".

I didn't even walk near the dessert table last night, myself. By the way, in case you're wondering, ramen noodles do have milk product in them.... lol Everything there had cheese melted on it, or dressings and dips. There was one german dish, which was a peice of beef that had been wrapped around onions and cabbage and a vegetable that I couldn't tell what it was (it kind of looked like a pickle, but didn't taste like it). That sat in a bed of gravy. I asked the people who brought it, but they didn't know what was in it, they had someone make it for them. (we have a german foreign exchange student on the team, and they wanted to surprise him with a "home cooked" german meal). I had one of those beefy rolls, some raw broccoli and cauliflower, a salad made with dark green lettuce, mandarin oranges and peanuts with a brownish pink dressing. And I avoided dessert table!

I went to a Casino on Thursday and you know how they have those beautiful buffets! Ooooooooooohhh no!

Our friend who comped the concert tickets and the room also gave carte blanche to the food.

I took some steamed veggies and a small slice of pizza. The pizza sucked.... greasy to get you drinking I guess!

The big point is I totally avoided the chocolate fountain and scruptious desserts being presented at the other end!!

Ate too much, had some beers, danced a LOT and had a great time, but didnt eat sugar!

    Sugar is not my friend.

I did enjoy a very nice, controlled 2 tablespoons of M&Ms last night. Ate them one at a time (you know, instead of by the handful all at once) and they were good. Didn't want any more, so I didn't have any more. Not avoided because I wanted them, but controlled...AND, most importantly, it didn't lead to an all out sugar binge. Super proud.

Still doing the coffee without sweetener -just some half and half- and I have discovered that I really enjoy it much more. I get to truly enjoy the taste of the coffee. I'm almost out of my Folger's, so I'll be buying some more...but I think I'll switch. I've noticed that it is just a little bitter. Probably going to treat myself to some Dunkin Donuts decaf -that's my favorite. Mmmm. I never thought I could -or would- give up my sweet coffee, now I don't even think I would like the sugary stuff. Oh well, guess I just won't be splurging on the lattes. Don't miss it much, anyhow.

Hi Maxine! No rules here, just sharing thoughts about sugar. You don't have to join, or even post, but it is helpful for us that come here daily and share our experiences. We are all have different thoughts about what is "okay" for us, sugar-wise.

Kelly, no harm no foul.

M - love it on the story behind the av. AND one Devil Dog is infinitely better than the 3 or 4 you probably used to have.

V - nice job on your 15 days. And you knew you were going to have sweets, so, why not? Like I said, we all know ourselves well enough to know how far we can push it.

Shuntae - I stopped putting sugar in coffee a year and a half ago (well, it used to be Hersheys - not even sugar) and I love my coffee now with only half & half. My insanely skinny ex-boss has her coffee that way. But she's one of those who has one mini-size Hersheys Dark Chocolate a day, too.:grumble:

Jeannie - The desserts at the buffet are the main reason I go to Vegas four times a year. Well, that and the dolphins. smiley_eat-1.gif

Shuntae- what is this you speak of about eating M&M's one at a time? I thought they were meant to pop a handful in at a time! Good job! When you first said you ate 2 Tbsp of them, I thought, one gulp, gone. Glad you enjoyed yours.

Maxine and Kelly........do you count the sugar from fruit and milk? I do not really watch that and wonder if that is why I still have this belly, even in size 6p jeans.

I find this thread extra helpful when I am this close to a hersheys kissinterest.gif

I don't count natural sugars they are unavoidable in dairy and fruit ( I know you didn't ask me, but that's my two cents). Dairy and fruit are crucial for a well balanced diet IMO.

Me either Cheryl. I eat all the fruit I want and milk when I want it. I get irritated because my sugar is always over by MFP standards. I had a cookie last night.

Anyway, as I was saying........fruit is good for you:bigsmile:

Doing well, but I want ice cream right now. Can't stop thinking about it. Not frozen yogurt either. Like a full out Dairy Queen blizzard or something. Good thing the closest one is about 20 miles away, I'm not that desperate.

I did walk by my son who was eating Peanut Buter Crunch cereal earlier today. Didn't even think. Stuck my hand in the container, grabbed out two little pieces and popped it in. A few seconds later, I actually stopped dead in my tracks, not because I did it without thinking, but because it tasted like garbage! I used to like that stuff. Not so much anymore. I'll take real food anyday. Like ice cream..... lol.

I just saw the commercial for Pepsi Throwback - now with real sugar. So if real sugar is an advertising point, what they've been using is even worse?

Staying strong. . .although I wanted a popscicle so bad after Bikram today. Yes, I crave popscicles in the middle of January in Canada. . .that's how I roll, sisters!

Actually, my doctor told me it's a symptom of low iron (I'm anemic). So, it's extra meat for dinner tonight, and I settled for extra cold water.

Day two of my second fifteen days sugar free. Feeling strong.

Yeah, ladies, I hate it when a latte throws my sugar over for the day. Or a whole banana instead of half of one in my smoothie. I do find, though, that unsweetened sweet things are much sweeter to my taste now. A pear tastes like candy.

Isn't that why they come in those handy pourable bags?!?!?!??!

M & Ms and me go way back - so far back that I have a restraining order against them....meaning if I started I know I couldn't restrain myself so I'll admire them at a distance on TV!

no I'm only counting the refined sugar at this point. I try to buy low sugar products and only eat natural sugar, although this last weekend I caved. I'm getting back on track today and this is a new week.

    Hi Jeannie,
I had a terrible weekend. I ate way to much and I figured out I am totally an emotional eater.
I found out a good friend of mine passed away about a week ago. I guess I eat when I'm sad.
Then when I eat sugar it starts all types of cravings, have you found that to be true too?
I was wondering if it is just me, or if others find that too.
    Thanks,
    Kelly

Oh you bet. Once I start on sugar it can get out of hand and ugly real quick like! I am working on moderation, but it's hard.

    Yes, Jeannie Oreos. Gotcha.

Yes, Kelly. Food as comfort, food as punishment, food as friend. We all do it (well, I think a lot of us do...) And yet, exercise makes me feel good in all those times, too. I'm working on that substitute.

    Exercise = Good
    Too Much Food = Bad
(say it with me......"Sugar is not my friend.")

Lori, you have been doing so much better, don't you think? Moderation is doable!:flowerforyou:

V - Again, thank you so much for your blog. I read "#2" last night. You are so smart.......:smooched:

I've managed to stay away from M&Ms. Trail mix is my current  . I somehow convince myself it's okay to eat a whole 1500 calories of it in two or three days. Somebody stop me!
    U-turn U-turn U-turn........
