You look a little like someone who lifts weights. I guess. You goon--you are amazing. Smart and hot is my favorite combination. Thanks for posting to share HOW the magic happens.

You are in inspiration!!! Amazing change!
  • I also owe a very sincere thank you to Alan Aragon -- if I had never let go of my ridiculous misunderstandings of fitness and nutrition, I'm not sure I would have stuck to the plan. Reading his work hasn't given me all of the answers, but he's done a great job teaching me to ask the right questions, and rather than showing me what's important, he's shown me what isn't. And in the world of nutrition there seems to be a whole lot of nonsense that can get in the way of a simple, yet effective plan.

    I can not agree more!

Keep it up, you are amazing

I just wanted to offer a big congratulations on the results of all your hard work and also to thank you.

I lurk a lot more than I comment, but I've gotten a lot of great information from you and others that think like you, i.e. HelloitsDan, CrisAnderson27, and many others who offer common sense and science backed up by actual peer-reviewed studies. But you're the one who posted the one thing that I've found most influential on this site. I just started on MFP about three months ago after being diagnosed with Type2 Diabetes and once I found the forums, one of the earliest posts I read was: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/635529-corn-used-my-man-parts-as-a-speedbag?hl=speedbag

I not only have this bookmarked, but I also printed it out to keep as a reminder that this does not have to be difficult (mentally that is - since if it's not difficult physically, I need to be working harder!). To paraphrase an earlier commenter, it helps keeps all the "noise, theories, and BS" under control. So again, thank you for providing some common sense for those of us new to the whole fitness journey, and know that you're appreciated even by some of us "quiet" ones on the boards.:flowerforyou:

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the kind words.

^ I wouldn't have labeled myself as "fat" when I started. I was definitely what we call "skinny-fat", and the before pic that I have (4 weeks into training) doesn't quite do justice to the mass of the gut I had. Still not enough to look "fat" when clothed. I just looked like a lazy white guy with a little gut, when clothed.

But it was fat enough for my friend to immediately point to it and laugh at me =)

Amidst all the BS, myths and sometimes total misinformation that can be huge part of this site, there you are with a sensible, reasonable approach to all things nutrition and fitness related, it's great to have people on here like you who know their stuff and are willing to share it around. You can always be counted on to have a great answer or opinion that everyone can understand. Thank you. ( your pics always make my day too!)

I don't post much, but I wanted to come out of the woodwork to say thank you for posting your story. It's really what I needed to hear. I am almost halfway to my goal, and recently I have become so tired and worn out on this journey to self improvement. Honestly, I haven't given up but I've taken a few steps back and it scares the hell out of me. Last night I literally got so angry over watching everything I eat I just said screw it and ate whatever. But I know that was a childish temper tantrum...your story reminds me this is a journey that will take patience, not a race. I'm at the point where I have become very aware of my macros, my fitness goals (I have gravitated to only lifting) and what it will take to reach my goals. It is a long , slow process that takes a LOT of mental strength. I applaud you, I admire you and hope to be like you. I've seen you around here a lot, enough to know that you carry a lot of weight around here...and trust me, I definitely sit up and pay attention when I see a post from you.

My husband has recently started his journey about 3 months ago, and his start was eerily similar to yours. I'm going to bookmark this and show him your story. He has changed his eating, and on his 11th week of Stronglifts 5x5 (so am I, we are doing the program together). Like you, we are finding that in a quest to change our bodies, we are also changing who we are as individuals. We are becoming more dedicated and disciplined that we've ever been. And trust me, we used to be a bunch of lazy *kitten* LOL!! I know he will really appreciate your story and I can't wait to show him. The slow progress can be discouraging at times, but as I'm sure you know ya just gotta keep plugging away at it and never give up.

Sorry this was so long winded. Keep on being awesome! I vote this to be on of the best success stories on MFP.
    HIGH FIVE!
