I'm 5'6" and 32 years old. I went from a size 18 to a size 4. I NEVER thought I would be this tiny!!
I still want to hug my clothes every morning when I see that number :-) haha0 -
I am 5'7" and at my highest weight of about 235 I was a solid size 18 (but was in denial, so squeezed myself into 16's). Now, at 183 I am a solid size 12. Hoping, at goal weight, I'll be around a 6 in most stores. Keep in mind that the larger size you are the slower you will go down in size. They say every 10 lbs is a size, but it took 20 lbs for me to go down a size at my larger weights.
This has been my experience too. I am 5 8 and, at my biggest wore 20. ....fast forward fifty pounds later...I am a size 14.0 -
I'm 5'8" was a size 26, now at a 10.0

Well, I am 5"8" and as an adult I have ranged form 10-12. Since I started MFP I have lost 15 pounds and wear 8-9. I don't take pictures though, I am not photogenic. I am not trying to loose anymore weight at this point, I just trying to tone up now.
I think you are VERY photogenic!0 -

I'm 5'9 and my highest weight was 326. I wore a size 26/28. Now I'm a easy size 18 and some 16's, and weigh 236. I can now shop off the rack at most stores and even own some coveted name brands like Ralph Lauren and Guess! It took a few years to get here because I wanted to maintain the weight loss (my goal is 180-185). I've learned it takes a lifestyle change. I try to eat more "clean" foods. This means fruits, vegi's, meats, beans. Very few processed foods. I try to stay away from the whites (white flour, sugar, salt (although I'm not very good at the salt), white rice, white noodles, mayo, white potatoes, white bread) and instead eat more whole grains, brown rice, whole wheat noodles, etc. I stay away from fried foods and gravy. The more ingredients a product has (especially the ones that you can't pronounce), the more unhealthy it is for you to eat. I've learned that in order to eat foods I enjoy, I needed to work out or become active. I've always hated the gym but bit the bullet and joined one 1 1/2 yrs ago. I started with just the treatmill and elliptical a couple days a week and now I try to go 5-6 days per week and have expanded to treadmill, stairmill, elliptical, cable weight machines, kickboxing class, spin class and yoga. I found that if I can find something I like, I'm more apt to stick with it. I love kickboxing so I go at least 3 days per week to that class.
Having said all that, I don't mean to give you the impression that I never eat bad. I still love my chocolate, I enjoy a baked potato every once in awhile, I have fries and pizza occassionally and if you think I'm going to pass up the gravy on Thanksgiving, you're dead wrong! Lol. Anyhow, it seems to be working for me. Just stick to it. I know it's not easy but trust me, you'll feel better (physically), you'll gain more confidence (especially when people notice you and congratulate you on your weight loss) and you'll be adding years to your life. Good luck!!!
Sorry so long!0 -

Looking forward to this journey, but knowing there are people that took the time to respond to the post will make it that much easier on me.

I have a question - many of you ladies are 5'6" and weigh around 160 and wear sizes 10-14. I am 5'6" and weigh around 158 but I can almost always fit into an 8...what am I missing? Not like I am complaining about wearing smaller sizes
Haha, funny you just friended me--we are the EXACT SAME. I weight 158 right now, but I'm 5'6" and wear a 10. It's all about where we carry weight. My hips are all wide-set bone--I rarely gain or lose weight from that area. That's why I mentioned pant sizes not ALWAYS being reflective, depending on your body type. I was 5'6" and 95 lbs when I was at my lowest point of anorexia... and I was wearing a 5 IF I WAS LUCKY, but generally a 7 (juniors)... at 158, I wear either an 8 or a 10. That's a pretty big weight difference, but not much of a pant size difference
So, good on everyone where pant sizes was an indicator of progressing health and weight... I'm just here to remind everyone not to get discouraged if your pant sizes DON'T seem to vastly change.0 -
My body type is weird. I have no butt, thinner legs, and a huge belly, so getting pants that fit in the waist as well as the legs is really hard to find.
That is me exactly, and it is so hard to find pants that fit, i have to wear the elastic waist pants and hate it!!!!0 -
I started in February at a tight size 20, wearing tight 2x scrubs. I'm down 46 pounds and wear a very comfortable size 16 now. I'd be thrilled to hit a size 10. I don't have lofty goals, just want to keep eating healthy and exercising for the rest of my life. I'm very short, BTW...5 feet. Starting weight was 252. A healthy weight for me is in the very low 120's, with many women my height in the very low 100's. Right now, I feel like I'd be over the moon happy if I could get to 150.
One day at a time, focus on habits and health. The rest will come, eventually.0
