Should insurance companies charge people who smoke MORE money?
    HeII yes!

You would agree then that hunters should be charged higher insurance rates, do to them having guns and bullets

Shouldnt that be folks who live near neighbors with guns should be charged more?

You bet, lets charge everyone more for insurance for everything they do, even sleeping

How is that dangerous. I would wager my abilities to handle a firearm (including bullets) are statistically safer than majority of the populations driving abilities and the dangers of sharing a road with them.

Me shooting is not directly detrimental to my health (other's health maybe). Someone smoking can be directly related to the pathology they will suffer in the future.

It is detrimental to your health, it affects your hearing. BUT as you say, it could be detrimental to others so you should have liability insurance for that gun and bullets. See how it works, they come for one thing and then it continues to escalate. They want smoker's cigarettes for the health and safety of all people. They then want our guns for the health and safety of all people are you ready to turn yours in for the benefit of all? No I am sure you are like me and they can pry my cold dead hands...

No you are wrong as the day is long. I want people to stop treading on my rights and liberties including the fact it is LEGAL and I still have a right to smoke. That is what I want.

So what happens if and when it becomes illegal in the future? Will you tread on the rights of those who don't smoke?

I will happily give my weapons up. However whoever comes to get them better bring an army cause I will take as many of them with me as I can before I hand them over.

so someone who is in a high risk job should pay the same as someone who is not for life insurance? that sounds like socialism to me. why are you promoting socialism/communism?

That may be the dumbest thing I've read in a long time. Who is going to show up on my door to take them? The cops? Most of them are friends, hunting buddies and fellow gun owners. They are not willing to give up their guns or take fellow gun owners weapons. The National Guard? They are the same cops and fellow sportsman I referred to above. The national military? Perhaps, but they will have a urban war on their hands.

You know obesity costs more and kills more, right?

How about changing extra to - everyone - who doesn't fit into healthy parameters.

Do people that smoke marijuana which is illegal tread on your rights now? And if you answer is yes then please explain what right is being tread upon?

it was a joke but i'll play. what if they outlawed a certain type of gun and there was no grandfather clause. what if after your refusal to turn them in they(ATF?) came to collect them...would you really die for those guns? or would you hand them over?

My workplace does what they can to award us for being healthy. We get award points for getting physicals, quitting smoking, going to the dentist, exercising... things like that.

As far as insurance companies go... I do understand why they would want to charge more for those who smoke. But, then who's to say that overweight people shouldn't be charged as well? They're racking up the doctor fees just as much as a person who smokes.

Professional athletes should be charged more as well due to the likelihood of injuries...

Those are your words not mine. I do not want my liberties being trampled on by others that think they know what is best for me and other smokers. As far as life insurance, if you want to discuss that maybe another thread should be started and that topic be taken there.

The problem is there are in fact some legitimate genetic and health variables that can cause obesity. Smoking is just easy because it is an active bad choice.

the answer to this post is obviously yes. life and health insurance companies do charge smokers more because smoking increases the chances of a person getting sick and dying sooner. as a former smoker i can say that smoking is one of the stupidest things a person can choose to do, and if you choose to do it you pretty much deserve all the consequences that are coming to you.

the theory holds for life or health insurance. you are saying a high risk individual(obese, smoker etc..) should pay the same as someone who doesnt have those factors. that screams socialism. treat everyone the same...everyone pays the same...

i dont want to be told what i can and cant do either but i understand that if i am doing something dangerous i should have to pay more. like if i rack up speeding tickets...i should pay more for car insurance right? or is that an area where everyone should pay the same no matter what as well.
