I will go back and read everyone's post but I need some guidance....My birthday is Saturday and I am stressing out over food, my kids ask me were I wanted to go for dinner. I said "let me get back to you" :frown: Tomorrow will be hard as well, I work in a special ed. class, we teach the children to hopefully take care of themselves, like light cooking, cleaning, shopping (life skills) Well the kids are making cupcakes for me tomorrow. It's so sweet, but I'm in panic mode. I need some tips to get me through this.

    Hello Everyone,

today I have been in bed for the most part. Believe I have the flu. But since up i did what to take time to read all of the posts. I have enjoy reading everyone's.

@Christine -- I have never been offend by anything you post I always find it encouraging that you can reach inside of yourself and see the spiritual aspect.

@Lin -- sorry you did not feel up by singing. I have never had kale but I do like spinach.

@Grammy sorry you are hurting so.
@robin sorry you aren't feeling better to.
@Big Aug sorry you are feeling blue.
@Kaye praying for your upcoming surgery.
@Pampered-- I work with adults with special needs and we cook all the time plus take them out to eat so they can learn how to care for self and how to handle situations. I get prepared as much as I can if its may be allow the calories of one cupcake cut out somewhere else lighter breakfast etc. Maybe eat only half or scrap frosting off. If that doesn't work for you do you teach healthy choices with your group we have some adults we work on healthy choices so if I don;t want to eat something I just say I am making a healthy choice. that my 2 cents

@naceto -- miss you too but can understand how busy you can get with all that you have on your plate.

@Laurie-- totally understand the fear thing. I think fear has undermined me a lot in my life. You will do it and conquer this fear I am sure you will.

@I really enjoy watching Both NCIS's and enjoy in The Middle, too.

Fear that I will start going backwards regaining everything.

Wednesday Wish: That I feel better tomorrow.

    Wishing everyone a wonderful evening,

    Liz

Took my granddaughter who is a Senior shopping this afternoon. My oldest daughter is going to Kentucky for a conference. She came by for a short visit. My new cushions for the rattan sofa for the sunroom look fantastic. They really make the room. Now all I need is a valance for the windows.

Now that we have cushions and most of our decorating is done, we can start having folks over and start doing some entertaining. Next week is New York and Canada and then there will be Halloween.

GRAMMY - Are you stretching for your plantars? That helps some, but when I had the injection in my back for pain, surprize my plantars fascitis went away. Have had a few mild episodes since but nothing major. Hoping yours goes away soon, as it is extremely painful. Looked at your sucess and you are an inspiration.

Naceto - I love your statement about being a warrior, lioness. I'm sure that strength has helped you suceed on this site. You are great.

Lampie - Waling to the gym. That is turning a lemon into lemonade, for sure. Great going. Your hubby should be proud of you. We all are.

Kaye - Congrats on the baby girl.

Try not to panic. Make room in your log tomorrow for a cupcake and eat just one. You can put the rest in the teacher's lounge or hand them out to the other teachers at the end of the day so you aren't taking them home.

Saturday eat light breakfast and lunch to leave extra calories for dinner. Think about what places are in town and check out their menu online before you decide. Almost all big chain restaurants and lots of mom and pop places have their menu posted. You should be able to find someplace that won't blow your macros out of the water but will still let you enjoy your birthday. You can decide what are going to eat before you leave so you're not pressured and panicking when the waiter gets to you. Someplace with a salad bar would be great. You can have a nice big salad with a vinaigrette dressing and maybe a grilled chicken breast with the house veggies.

Everyone whose trousers are falling down -- belts are your friend! They're a lot cheaper than a whole new wardrobe.

On carbs; yesterday was a really low carb day and whaddaya know, the scale is moving. I think there might be something in this low carb thing, you know.

    Hope everyone's enjoying their Wednesday.

    -- Alison

You cracked me up with belts are your friends! You are right and I need to get one, I'll be thinking of you when I get one. lol

@naceto- it sounds like your having the time of your life, enjoy!

@lizmil79- you gave me a few really good choices, thanks for your 2 cents, it's worth a lot more to me. I hope your feeling better soon. It's sounds like we have a lot in common with our jobs!

@Lauriek70- I think it totally understandable your fears, I know when I am heavy I feel invisible (i like that) it my security blanket, but this time I'm going to push passed that, I want to fine the real me. I hope you find the answer your looking for.

@MyM0wM0w- Thank you for all of your tips, I'm going to look online at a few places we like to eat, and see what is on the menu and I know that will make me feel more in control.

I weight myself this morning and I lost 3lbs!

I always feel uplifted when I read all of your posts. You are all successful in my book.
Grammy--I had plantar faceitis for a long time. The podiatrist prescribed really expensive insoles for my shoes, which didn't help at all. He finally gave me a cortisone shot and I haven't had any trouble since (over 2 years). I hope that you can get some relief.
I have been taught that fear and faith cannot coexist. I guess what we have to do is have more faith in ourselves and in a our Heavenly Father to help us over the tough stuff. There is always plenty of that.
Good night. Here's hoping for a great day tomorrow. Kaye

    woohoooo!!! Grats!:flowerforyou:
  • Just checking in - been crazy the past few weeks. My husband had his surgery (all went great) but we lost his brother a week later and we are only just getting a personal life back that doesn't include daily trips to a doctor or hospital or family visits. I'll have to catch up later, just needed to find you all =)
  • @cathesh - sounds like a great gym with a wonderful pool! Swimming is so wonderful for my mind, soul, and body! I really want to get a swim spa (maybe if i save for five years), so I can swim all year long! I'm allergic to chlorine so i'm limited to lake/river/pond/ocean swimming in CT. :(
@morgori -- i knew about ONEderland, but that's so far away for me... thanks for giving me a name for my goal -- Twoderville!!! I love it!
@ohpampered -- congrats on the loss!
@christine -- i think you asked about seeing a therapist on oxygen... for me, it would have nothing to do with the oxygen and everything to do with her or his skill as a therapist. if you want to get back to work part-time and are feeling well enough, give it a go!

Wednesday Wish -- that I had an extra 30,000 to buy that swim spa now!
Thursday Truth -- I can't really imagine myself thin either. I am far from it now, but in the past, I have hit the wall as I approach 200 pounds. Weight has always been a shield, protecting me from past traumas. Time to let go. Just need to figure out how.

@Tina -- in the UK we have Options instant hot choc that's 40 cals a packet. I don't personally use it but lots of people think they're brilliant. If you're craving stuff then you need to find a way to work it into your plan, cos I agree that it's a mistake to feel guilty about food. Or just have the thing you want, say 'ok, I'm not logging today for *one day*', and then get started again the next day. Good luck; I think everyone has times when they just find it really tough.

@Kaye -- congrats on your imminent granddaughter! That's lovely! And finger crossed all is going well for surgery. These waiting days are really hard, aren't they?

@Jana -- tip for getting on with your running: put on your running shoes and walk out your front door. After that you can stop if you like, but I bet you won't.

@LAMypie -- sorry about your shoes, but well done for getting to the gym!

@Christine -- I'm not religious, but I'm never offended by people talking about their faith and how it works for them. In fact, I think that religious people should absolutely turn to their faith when they're facing challenges and seek spiritual support from friends, religious leaders and holy books. I think that's sort of what religion's for, right? I only get upset when people start to use their faith to tell me how I should behave -- and nobody on this thread ever does that.

@Marsha -- so sorry about your feet.

@ohpampered1 -- plan for a cupcake! They aren't going to want you to eat a dozen -- they all want cupcakes too. So just eat one, and if they ask, say, I have a rule never to eat more than one cupcake. The kids will understand rules, right? And they may even have that rule at home; my kids know that one! For your birthday, I think it's hard to beat Japanese food for a combination of delicious, nourishing and healthy. There are some deep fried things, though, so you do have to plan in advance a bit. But my daughter and I had a lovely sushi lunch last week for 500 calories each.

@andrea -- good to hear from you; sorry life is such a rush for you at the moment.

@lmackbethi -- some high end health clubs here have pools that are non-chlorine treated; I can't remember how the exact treatment works but it's much more pleasant than chlorine to swim in.

Thursday Truth -- yes, I'm yet another person who can't really imagine being thin, and has several times worked back to ONEderland or thereabouts, started to feel better, and let it slip again. Not this time though, I keep saying, but inside there's that nagging doubt. It's especially hard on days like yesterday, where I felt really hungry all day and went over cals. But I'm just taking it one day at a time.

On the plus side, I'm noticing that my whole family is starting to look better as we've ditched the takeaways and are eating healthily at dinner. Hubby's on MFP so that's deliberate, but my son was complaining that his school trousers are too loose, and my daughter bought a dress for this wedding six weeks ago; it was a tad tight when she bought it (it fitted but it took two people to do the zip up!) and now it's a perfect fit.

    Have a super day!

    Good morning all!

Thursday truth...this has been a terrible week for me, although I feel like I pulled it together yesterday finally! This is the heaviest I've ever been in my life and I'd really like to get this weight off.

I seem to be getting the hang of this Fitbit now and for the first time yesterday I walked over 10,000 steps. Awesome feeling let me tell you. Going to shoot for it again today.

Hope all of you are having good days out there. I'll check in again tomorrow!

    Good Morning & Happy Pre-Friday!

I’m a huge Criminal Minds fan, too – love Morgan and Garcia! I'm a huge NCIS fan too!

@Nicole~I know your busy, but glad you are making time to enjoy the new man!

@Marsha~I’m so sorry for the plantar fasciitis pain, I had it years ago. I always had to stretch my feet really well before getting out of bed in the morning, or I’d have to crawl to the bathroom. It was horrible. I had it at the same time I tore my Achilles, when I got a cortisone injection in my Achilles it seemed to really help my plantar fasciitis as well. Since dropping weight I haven’t had any additional issues, other than off/on Achilles tendonitis. I know of a great foot doc in the area – PM me and I’ll give you his info if you’re interested. He’s at Presby Dallas.

@Pampered~The nice thing about MFP is that you can work the things that you enjoy into the program, the more we deprive ourselves of those things the more likely we are to not stick this out. So, enjoy that cupcake and like MOwMOw said take a look at the online menus for some of your favorite spots – choose what you want before you go and don’t deter from that once you get there. If you do that you’ll be golden. Also remember that it is just one meal, enjoy it and then get right back to it your next meal. You can burn some excess calories that day to make up for the extra calories you consume also. Most of all enjoy yourself!

@nzenczak~One thing I have learned from this weight loss journey is that you need to cook; learn to love veggies;, and water, water, water. There is a learning curve, you’ll get there!

@Alison~How awesome that your family is benefitting from MFP as well.

Thursday Truth~I was thin and athletic in high school. While I know that I will never be that thin again, I can visualize myself thin and active – it’s a work in progress though, while I’d love to weigh 110 pounds I know it isn’t possible so I try to be realistic about what that “new thin” might be. My doctor and I talk about it fairly often, right now she doesn’t concentrate so much about the number on the scale but the measurement of my waist – she says the waist to hip ratio is a better indicator. It kind of takes the pressure off.

Off to the races – have a super day!

    Kelley :glasses:

I'm another person who loves Criminal Minds. Shemar Moore (Morgan) is my future husband, as soon as he realizes that we'll live happily ever after.

I'm ALSO another person who can't picture themselves thin. My entire adult life (since after college) I've been fat. In high school and in early college I was pretty active and showed horses successfully. I don't have amazing expectations, I just want to get out of obese zone and into overweight and then I'll see what happens from there.

Keep up that attitude. You will "pull it together" more often than not and get healthy. That's what I tell myself when contemplating my self-imposed plateau of FOUR MONTHS!

I love my fitbit. It keeps me motivated, since I have a slightly competitive nature, and allows me to realistically acknowledge that sitting in front of a computer or at a desk or even standing at the kitchen counter burns hardly any calories and I really need to "move it, move it, move it," as well as watch what I put in my mouth. (That was a pep-talk to self there.)

    Have a great Thursday!

Back later. Going to MOVE IT!

@andrea--glad your husband's surgery went well, but so sorry you guys lost his brother. I'm sure it's been a rough time for your family. Glad you found us--we're here when things calm down and you can get back to us more regularly. :flowerforyou:

@marsha--sorry about your feet. I had PF several years ago and custom orthotics generally work for me. Of course, that's only if I am really good about using them. I also have to replace my runners pretty frequently--once the arch support starts to break down, I need to get a new pair or I start to hurt.

@ohpampered--I  alison's idea about sushi!! I often get sushi if I want to indulge without killing my food diary for the day. Oh, and congrats on the 3lb loss! :drinker:

@alison--that's great that your family is reaping the benifits of your healthier eating.

@kris--we may have to fight over Morgan b/c I'm pretty sure he's MY future husband...

Hopoe everyone is having a good day! I will check back with Thursday Truth later--gotta go teach!

    Wednesday Wish:

This is horrible but I'm going to kind of "wish" the rest of this week away. I had a really great interview with the company I want to intern for, and she said she would let me know by next week. (I know, I know it's Thursday). haha!

I think Thursday is truth day?:

I'm really really angry at someone that walked into my life after not being present for 19 years. When I declined financial stability from them, this person stopped talking to me. At first I was not angry, but as the months go on, I get more and more angry about it. It's probably bad that I'm just starting to get really angry about it after about 4 months? I don't really believe the idea of going to counselors, but I'm not really sure what to do about it. We'll see how the rest of the year goes, but i'm kind of hard headed and will most likely reach out and be a total B**** to this person. haha!

Hope everyone has a good Thursday. It's Zumba Thursday for me! So excited! <3<3<3<3 this day!

    Hello all you great folks!!

Time to get going on the day's errands. I feel good today. I actually got an entire box of clothing sorted out AND in the car to take to the donation drop off. YEAH. And I just got off the phone and got a new set of tires ordered. The ones on my vehicle were not going to make it through the winter and especially with all the trips I'm making lately. Good decision---price, not so great. But I know I'll feel better when they're on and I don't have to worry all the time.

I am one of the few people who probably could care less about Criminal Minds. Y'all can have all those guys. Same for NCIS Los Angeles. But stay away from Ducky on NCIS. I'm old---I like him!!!

I've never been thin, I doubt I will ever be thin. I don't find this to be a limitation in my journey. I'm in it for better health and hopefully better numbers on BMI, lab tests etc Just want to feel better. I've put no effort into thinking about how I'll look.

It's not Wednesday but may everyone's wishe and dreams come true.

I'm reading all these comments about people who can't picture themselves as thin and that's an impediment. I've given this some thought in the past because I've noticed that even though I'm really quite overweight, I never picture myself as really heavy. And I'm wondering if it's because I used to be very thin. Maybe whatever we were in the formative days where we develop a mental picture of ourselves marks how we see ourselves forever.

Grandmakaye - congrats on the upcoming grandbaby! Quite a thrill to look forward too!

LamyPie - sorry you're having money troubles....hoping things get better for you. Probably you need to get the battery sooner than later since winter's coming, maybe you'll have some money left over.

Naceto - two classes and a job is decidedly stressful......don't burn yourself out! I have anxiety disorder too, and its so frustrating to have "mini-breakdowns" in front of people at work. I've been there......so glad your gentleman friend is so understanding. But you might consider dropping one class now before its too late if your already at the breaking point. HUGS!

Grammy - so sorry to hear your foot pain has flaired up again - when your feet hurt your whole spirit is down, your whole body wants to ache along with your feet. You have a great attitude!

Ohpampered - go ahead and have a cupcake and also let yourself enjoy your birthday. COmpensate by cutting more calories out of your diet on the days before you eat the special treats and on the days after .... and HAPPY BIRTHDAY! And congrats on your 3 lb. loss. WOOT!!!!

Liz - I hope its not the flu - you poor baby! Do you have chicken soup handy? Take good care of yourself!

Andrea - glad to see you. Sorry you've been through trying times. HUGS!

Garetie - Oh, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you too! Enjoy yourself tremendously!

Morgori - I see your down by 1 cig. CONGRATS!

    Happy Thursday :flowerforyou:

***Warning This Post Is Kind Of A Downer****

Thursday Truth: I am being 100% honest in saying that I eat away my stress and anger than I am mad again that I gained weight. Any ideas on how to cope with this realisticly. I know that a walk or exercise is best but at 1am it is not realistic. I am also feeling very down with all the changes in my life. Honestly, some of the changes I made were because they were presented in a better light than what they actually are. I am the most stressed over blending the families 2 adults that don't see eye to eye on parenting plus 3 kids that are disrespectful and turning into liars (so not to get into trouble) makes my life very very very stressful. Which is where my eating comes in because I eat to feel better or to forget during that moment.
I am happy though to have a house for the first time ever!

I am reading all the posts of people not being able to picture themselves thin and yet I agree with @Toots. I never pictured myself as"big" eventhough I am 250lbs which for 5'4" is morbidly obese. I think that is because I walk alot and do excercise from time to time. I think it is hard to accept ourselves when we are not use to what we see or plan to see in the future.

@Robin- Please keep us informed on how it is going with your results

@Andres- So nice to hear from you. Sorry for the loss in your family. Glad your husband's surgery went well.

@Grammy- Sorry your in so much pain. You reminded me I need to make truffels also for house warming gift.

Water tag back at you :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: - 32oz down and almost a full day left to drink.

I have just started a treatment of prednisone for my bilateral arm pain. I'll be on it for 2 weeks. I sure appreciate everyone's kind words and encouragement. Lets hope this works! I have read up on this diagnosis of polymyalgia rheumatica and it seems to fit my symptoms pretty well except I am also having problems with my wrists, and that's not part of the description. I have to put a pillow in my lap to drive the car and hold the steering wheel. Its the craziest thing. I can't even talk on the phone long either, holding it to my ear is problematic.

Chris - yep, I could use your prayers, and anyone else.

I also loved Man from U.N.C.L.E. A few years ago when I had more $$ I bought the entire series on DVD. Illya was my fav then.

Good luck on your lab work and great that you're down on the smokes!

Back to work---I'm making KALE CHIPS!!

Thanks all for the good wishes. We are excited about the baby. She will be our 14th grandchild. They are all so precious!
I have a hard time with body image. I just always feel kind of fat, but my image doesn't really change no matter what size I am. I'm sure that I look much bigger to others. I am short, 5'1", and have a very compact, dense body. My mother was tall for her generation and always worried about me being short and too heavy. As I look back, I realize that I wasn't fat then, but I think the body image has been a impairment to my success. When I was in college I had a roommate that was my height and wore size 1 or 0. I wore a size 9 or 10. You couldn't get my skeleton into a size 1 or 0. We are all built so differently that I think the only way to feel successful is to try for healthy, and not worry so much about what we look like.
Robin--good luck with your treatments. And to all those who are in pain, as well. I hate being in pain. It just makes everything so hard!
    Have a good day. Kaye

Since TV shows have come up lately I will add my favorites:
    Warehouse 13
    Fringe
    Leverage
    Burn Notice
    Dexter
    Bones
    NCIS
    NCIS L.A.
    Royal Pains
    Vegas
    Alphas

    What is your ticker picture?
Mine is a view from my brother-in-laws back porch. Elk in CO.

Mine is my daughter's baptism. She's sitting in my lap. In the big version over on my profile page my preteen son is in the picture too, making an insane face

I'm not much of a TV watcher. I have seen a few episodes of Warehouse 13 and Bones but none of that other stuff you mentioned.

However, I have to say that there have been some shows I loved but most of them are old.

Twin Peaks, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Veronica Mars, Psych, and lately I've gotten obsessed with the show Primeval. I'll admit that I only looked it up on Netflix because I had seen the Scy Fy mini series Alice and been totally charmed by the character of Hatter, played by the British actor Andrew-Lee Potts. I decided I had to see if he was in anything else. When I first found the show Primeval, British sci-fi, I tried it out for a few minutes and there were no closed captioning options available. I'm kind of deaf anyway and Andrew-Lee Potts' crazy cockney accent and Douglas Henshall's heavy Scottish accent were too much for me  I couldn't understand what was going on. But I checked again later and they had gotten CC. And I'm very glad I did since it's the first show I've truly loved since Buffy. And that was 1996 lol.

@Lin -I've never seen Criminal Minds. But it's on my netflix queue so someday I suppose I'll get to it. I did see a quote from that one guy, I guess he's a scientist or something, talking about how he's never heard of Twilight and that moved the show up on my list  I need a new genius character to crush on innocently since Primeval is over until 2013 and all my adorable little British scientists are gone.

Good afternoon, praying everyone is having a fantastic day! I am doing well today and had a great walk this morning with Belle and lost another 2 lbs!!! That is 6.5 in a week and a half. I was stuck for almost 3 weeks so I guess the body just decided to give it up finally. Today I added stretches after my walk, maybe I should do them before, I'm not too educated about the exercise stuff. They did feel good and I was able to touch the floor!!! Still trying to find a cheap Richard Simmons Sweating to the Oldies DVD or VHS, not willing to pay what they want on his site. I will need something for when it gets too cold or icy for me to walk outside. Kind of disappointed as I am trying to get a small portable concentrator so won't have to lug heavy O2 tanks (even the small ones weigh 5 lbs and hurt my shoulder to carry) and to get one will cost me $48 more dollars a month and not sure I can afford it.:grumble:

Thursday truth is I am one who never pictured herself as being as big as I am. That is pretty strange for someone who has been morbidly obese almost her entire life. Although I did struggle when the 1 time I got down to a normal weight (for about 2 hours) I didn't feel comfortable and missed my weight, it was like an old friend to me. I'm so past that now, I want to say good-bye to that friend forever!

Ooops, forgot to finish this before I started fixing my lunch. I want to say I was sorry about the person whose BIL passed away, but happy her husband made it through surgery fine. Sorry I can't remember your name, oldtimers setting in again.
    Everyone have a great day.

    Christine
