Do you eat Cereal?

I've been a fan of Malt-O-Meal (brand imitator) cereals for a long time. I used to eat their equivalents to 'Lucky Charms' and 'Raisin Bran Crunch' all the time. Once I started my 'new life' I realized how the former was a nutrient vacuum and the latter was pretty high in sodium for a cereal. I now almost exclusively eat their 'Strawberry Mini-Wheat' equiv because is has almost no sodium (like 10mg) and 6g of fiber yet still tastes great. I also always add 1-2 bananas as well to get a boost of potassium. That plus 1% milk is my breakfast 1-3 times a week.0

Nope, it does zilch for my hunger & is way more calories than oatmeal, which is what I eat for breakfast regularly now.0

kashi is decent but a little too nutty for me. My favorites recently are FiberOne cereals and a couple Kellogg's cereals, in particular the cinnamon oats and special K.
Of course they all are going to have some processed bits in them, hard to avoid. I'm more concerned about the nutrients they can provide over the debatable "bad stuff" .
Keep in mind the portion "serving size" isn't very big, in most cases it's 1/2 - 3/4 cup of cereal, if you measure that out, I think people would find they are getting 2x+ serving size and therefore overeating 2-300 calories just from cereal in the morning. I measure mine out and eat it with fat free milk, 1 piece of toast and a banana. Probably my favorite meal of the day.0 -
Absurd.
Those muscles helping the eloquent reasoning huh?
You criticise others, yet this is your response.
There is no accepted study that will conclusively show the consumption of grains will hinder or stop weightloss. Care to argue with that Mr Anti-carb Fanatic?
To the OP, yes I eat cereal on most days, it is a brilliant source of fibre and contributes nicely to my overall eating plan and desired macronutrient ratio. It also assists with facilitating regular poop intervals. :laugh:0 -
i eat cereal at least twice daily. i love fiber one honey squares, rice krispies, corn flakes - and these are actully pretty low in cals and in sugar. i sometimes eat fiber one honey clusters0

No, I don't think it's all that great. I usually eat, 1 egg, 1/2 cup of cottage cheese, 2 slices of center cut bacon, and some kind of fruit- this week its pineapple. Sometimes I'll have a half slice of toast with peanut butter too.0

I like oatmeal. Cereals are calorie dense. You need to measure by weight, not volume. Cups are the devil's measure.
Who here has yet to buy their first digital food scale?0 -
I eat cereal most mornings - all bran, fruit & fibre, weetabix, special K, whatever we've got in the cupboard. Actually that's not quite true. I've stopped eating the really delicious cinnamon one, since it's incredibly high-calore (probably something to do with the amount of sugar it's coated in...!).
No portion-controlled breakfast gets me past about 11/11.30 before I'm really hungry, regardless. So I just have a couple of drinks through the morning - and not having any snacks in my office kind of helps with not even needing any self-control!0 -
Not really. I prefer to combine protein and carbs at breakfast so I'm full longer.0
-
Meh, I used to eat it, but was never a big fan. It always goes too soggy before I've finsihed the bowl, and it doesn't fill me up very much.
I much prefer the breakfast selection I have now - eggs, oatmeal, yoghurt, smoked fish, cottage cheese, and I find it easier to keep the calories under control using these instead. I don't miss cereal one bit!0 -
Cereal is my weakness when it's kids cereals like Trix, Cinnamon Toast crunch, and Lucky Charms...so I stay away from those ones. I eat Fiber One 80 calorie honey squares, it's the only cereal I can stick to 1 cup of and it makes me satisfied.0

I grew up on healthy cereal (cheerios, grape nuts, weetabix). It really helps me eat in the morning when I first get up and am all groggy. These days I'm on Kashi Go-Lean. Very occasionally I'll have something like Cocoa Pebbles, but only for dessert, not for breakfast.0
-
I love cereal...I eat 'healthy' granola types and junky types too. Still losing :-)0
-
Cereal is a 'snack' not breakfast. I'll have 2 of the big Shredded Wheat biscuits with some brown sugar and milk - sweet but not horrible for me0
-
OMG I miss cereal. I can't be trusted with it in the house. I sleep eat cereal. I'll pass out on the couch at night and then wake up and shove handfuls in. True story. Crunchy Nut is my favorite food of all TIME! NOMMMMMM0
-
what kind of crackpot question is this? OF COURSE I DO. cereal is a food group.0
-
Not really.... since I don't like to drink cow's milk, it doesn't really pack enough protein for me. I also feel like the sugar high right after waking up doesn't really help me the rest of the day. I prefer eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese. If I want something carby I'll go for oatmeal.0

I don't eat cereal nearly as often as I used to before I got married. I rarely eat breakfast, but I used to often have cereal for dinner. But now I cook a meal every night so if I buy a box of cereal it usually goes stale before I finish it. I like a variety of cereals but look for those high in fiber and without an excessive amount of sugar.
Kashi and Cascadian Farms have several cereals that I like.0 -
I have a bowl of Lucky Charms almost every night before bed! It's delicious and filling.....I don't know how all you crazy people don't eat a ton of cereal, but hey that just means more for me :bigsmile:0
-
I eat fiber one and Krave0
-
I generally eat 1-2 servings of cereal per day. I like it for snacks.0
-
Every night before I go to bed. Typically of the Special K variety. With Almond Milk - YUM0
-
I'll pass.0

Workdays I have my my breakfast after morning PT and it usually consists of Kashi bars (130-150 cal, 4 g fibre, 5-7 g protein depending on which one) and a banana. On the weekends I ususally have a bowl of Sally's Cereals (Whole Wheat Bundles - 55g has 200 cal, 7 g fibre, 6 g protein) with a half cup of skim milk one day and bacon & eggs with toast on the other.0
-
I only eat Cheerios. (:0
-
bottom line is if you want to loose weight and get fit and in shape per say.....cereal isnt the best option for breakfast. too much starch with not enough fibre in most cereal....id suggest oatmeal (original unsweetened) instead...it has very slow digesting carbohydrates giving you ample energy through out the morning and keeping you full for longer.
ideally a protein heavy breakfast is the best way forward. Thats what i found has worked for me and keeps me full and energised through out the morning.0 -
I eat a 440 calorie bowl of cereal every morning.
1.75 cups of Corn Flakes
.25 cups of granola
.5 ounces of sliced almonds
with 1 cup of fat free milk. It is so good. I look forward to it every day!
Keeps me full till past lunch. Sometimes I don't get hungry until 1 or 2.0 -
I am a big fan of cereal, especially peanut butter flavored cereal, but I don't eat it anymore b/c I find it doesn't fill me up with the amount of calories in it. I usually have hard boiled eggs, oatmeal, or a protein shake... which for me, fills me up till lunch time.0
-
I also like Fiber-one Honey Clusters....!
^^^ ditto - I mix them with the Fiber-One Original, half cup each, with light soy. Big fiber and a carb bump in the morning to carry me all day.0 -
I occasionally eat Special K Protein Plus... but, I typically eat oatmeal or eggs in the morning.0
