I fell in love with biking last spring and was consistent to be on my bike every morning. Now with the cold weather setting in and the dark mornings playing with me, I have had no ambition to get up and go. I was up to 110 miles in August, and now slacking. Thinking I might need to invest in a trainer. Any thoughts or recommendations?

Glad to find other cyclists on this site. I hope this is appropriate place to ask this question. so the other day i rode for (numbers might be sliglty off going from memory cant look right now) rode for hour and 13 minutes at 12-14 mph the exercise diary gave me like 950 calories. this seems extremely high. I like to eat back at least 1/2 of my earned exercise calories but i dont have a HR monitor. I am wondering in yalls opinion how accurate is the exercise diary in regards to calories earned. What I have been doing is taking what they say I earned and cutting it in half and then those are the calories i eat back. I dont know if that is right thing to do. I am curious what you all think the accuracy of exercise diary is????

I agree, it does seem high! I'm 6', 260lbs, and MFP says that I burn 700+ calories during my daily hour long bike ride, which is only 10 miles. Seems off to me, so in my head I generally calculate it as 50 calories per mile biked. I hope it's accurate enough

I use a Garmin cycle computer with a chest strap heart monitor and Mfp's numbers are very close to what that tells me, if you are only eating half the calories back then I would use those numbers. Try it for a few weeks and if you find that you are not losing then simply adjust the numbers down slightly until you do start losing  good luck

Thanks for your responses I am new to mfp, had good losses both weeks so far and hope to keep that up. Thanks gregsoevans that is exactly what I wanted to know was if hrm would show close to the same numbers as mfp :)

Not so sunny, but at least it wasn't cold. Just damp....Still managed 14.5 according to bike computer. Endmondo is a bit off, not sure why, but i've been noticing for the first mile when I hit it, and according to them it's different everyday and I ride a pretty specific path at least to the park. My ride was a little crazy today, path was closed in a couple places and I couldn't use the bike trail at all, ground was very mushy.

Other than dropping about a mile in the distance I rode the stats between the two aren't too far off. Bike computer gave me an average of 11.3 and endmondo 10.91...so still puts me into that leisure cycle category.

So my initial goal for October was 170 then I changed it to 200, and last week I decided to try for 300. I hit my 200 goal.

214.4 as of today. I rode 31.2 miles mxs 17.9 mph/ avs 10.9 mph. Was able to get back on the trails a decent amount.

    Here comes 300:D

Own a wickedly cool road bike, and it for the last month or so it has been hanging on my wall. Well starting this monday hope to join the group that does a slow paced ride 20 mi or so but, as I was doing 40 plus this is a good start over for me
