Not attacking you - these are not your 'rules' - but most of these are not necessary for weight loss, especially if you are logging your food.

    My rules:

Rule 1: Eat at a reasonable calorie deficit with mostly nutritious foods
Rule 2: Hit your macros for body composition (protein) and health (fats) reasons
    Rule 3: Strength train
    Rule 4: Sleep
Rule 5: Eat ice-cream every night
Macros are protein, carbs, and fats. You need all three for proper body composition.

My rule.. 80/20. 80% good, 20% bad.. and exercise.

Plus, why the hell would you want to go to bed hungry? Thats just setting yourself up for failure my dear.

although I agree with some of these 'rules' in general I dont do the whole rule thing - the more rules that are imposed on me the more I tend to say 'F' you and go my own way - and not just with eating.

For me IPOARM is perfect because it's basically no rules - that works for me. Also a lot of those rules are just simple common sense

getting enough sleep - well duh it's always better to get enough sleep
the no meat thing wouldnt work for me at all - Im a carnivore - meat is manditory
eat a real breakfast - define real - I personally do a protein shake for breakfast every day with a coffee thats got sweetener in it - as I told my PT - it's either a protein shake for breakfast or nothing - I dont do breakfast.
The no carbs in the afternoon- that might work for some but dinner without some form of carb (and that includes the veggies) is just wrong - no balance
Drink your water period - not just when you're thirsty - running at a state of constant low-hydration makes people cranky even if they dont realize it.

Nothing on that list of rules about strength training either - major deal breaker there -

    So here are my rules
    eat less move more
quit with the crap that comes out of boxes, cans and factories
lift heavy **** up and put it back down

    be happy

    1. Don't eat more calories than your body uses throughout the day.

    2. Don't make it more complicated than it needs to be.

^My only rules. It seems to be working pretty well so far.

And seriously, who can live without potatoes? Why does everyone keep hating on the tater anyway? 110 calories (on average) of deliciousness - and it keeps you full. And it's a good source of potassium. I seriously do not see the problem here

    Go to bed hungry?

WTF? Yeah, 'cause not being able to sleep because my stomach is growling is a brilliant way to aid my weight loss.

I don't agree with half of these. There is only one "skinny rule"

    1. Don't eat more calories than your body uses throughout the day.

    Yep.

I eat carbs all day long with no problem. And I have to say, when I was one of those hated naturally thin women, I didn't do ANY of those things.

I agree with less than half of those. I leave the arguments to the "calories in, calories out" camp.

My goal isn't to be "skinny," so I'm free to ignore these and eat white potatoes.

If you don't know how to eat, i would see why you would follow these rules. Everyone has to learn somehow.

I'm hating these rules, but after eating so bad, I followed a list similar to it, then changed it up. I dont like a majority of these because I know how to eat.

Bottom line is calories in < calories out. But I do still watch what I eat, for health reasons.

This is actually exactly what I was thinking.

But, white potatoes are so good for you. Very high in potassium and fiber if you eat the skins. Not chipped or fried but a baked potato is sooogood.

    No carbs after lunch!

Also... if I 'Go to Bed Hungry' there is no way I'm going to 'Sleep Right'. These rules contradict one another.

The rest of the rules are 'meh'. I could take them or leave them - they don't make much of a difference to me.

I like your rules better, with just a few modifications:

Rule 1: Eat [a reasonable amount of calories] with mostly nutritious foods
Rule 2: Hit your macros for body composition (protein) and health (fats) reasons
    Rule 3: Strength train
    Rule 4: Sleep
Rule 5: [Drink red wine] every night

Don't forget Vit C. Potatos are a rather good source for Vit C.

With some extra sharp grated cheddar and light sour cream ...

And a side of roasted asparagus.

    1) Drink a large glass of water before every meal - no excuses.
I drink water all day, so um, yeah. I guess I do this.

    2) Don't drink your calories.
    Deal

    3) Eat protein at every meal or stay hungry and grouchy.
    Makes sense

    4) Slash your intake of refined flours and grains.
    Duh

    5) Eat 30 to 50 grams of fiber a day.
    I do. Maybe not 50, but 30+.

    6) Eat apples and berries every single day. Every single day. Single day!
How bout every single week? It's cold out. I'll eat a year's worth of fruit in the summer when it's actually good.

    7) No carbs after lunch.
    This sounds like torture.

    8) Learn to read food labels so you know what you are eating.
Does anyone really not know how to read a label?

    9) Stop guessing about portion size and get it right - for good.
    Word.

    10) No more added sweeteners, including artificial ones.
Roger that. Unless I really want dessert. Then screw you, Bob.

    11) Get rid of those white potatoes.
    Don't really like 'em anyway.

    12) Make one day a week meatless.
I make probs 50% of my meals meatless, so I'm counting it.

    13) Get rid of fast foods and fried foods.
I'll agree with this until someone puts fried zucchini or something delish in front of me.

    14) Eat a REAL breakfast.
I do. But I don't think everyone needs to.

    15) Make your own food and eat at least ten meals a week from home
    mmmkay.

    16) Banish high-salt foods.
    Or drink lots of water.

    17) Eat your veggies - JUST DO IT!
You can't tell me what to do! You're not my real dad!

    18) Go to bed hungry!!!
    No.

    19) Sleep right.
    If the baby lets me.

    20) Plan one splurge meal a week if you must.
Nah. I'll splurge when there's something fun going on. Might be twice a week. Might be once a month.

How are you supposed to do 3 and 12 at the same time

There are plenty of meat-free foods with protein.
