Ripping callouses sucks when working with very heavy weights.

Calluses can interfere with rubbing one out.

    Or enhance the experience

I don't usually wear gloves, but my boyfriend does.

I have no clue what anyone else at the gym wears (or doesn't wear). I'm beginning to think I'm the only one who is completely oblivious to everyone else in the world lol.

I don't care either way....just as long as you don't have bleeding freakin hands.

That being said, when I started lifting with a bar, I HAD to wear gloves cuz I'm a sweathog...

Nothing outdated about it...just personal preference.

ANd every woman in my gym that lifts real heavy wears them, too. *shrugs*

People who workout with gloves also probably use a pad to do half squats...

I just started lifting and I don't need them because I don't lift very heavy yet. If I got to the point where my hands were calloused because I have sensative easily scarring skin then yes I would wear them because some of the bars at my gym are rough and due to my sensitivity to infection and scarring I would need to.

My boyfriend doesn't heavy lift often so not an issue. If he had callouses I think I'd mind a little how it felt, but be proud of him for lifting so either way I don't care.

I wear workout gloves so my hands don't get torn up. If I lift with bare hands, depending on the bar, it can tear the skin also cause calluses.

<--- This guy wears gloves. Has benched 415 wearing gloves. Has deadlifted 550+ wearing gloves. OHP 185 for reps wearing gloves. Squats 450+ wearing gloves. Strangely, has never dropped a bar. Even more strangely, does not have calluses.

When new people come to train with me, the first thing I tell them to get is gloves. And you know what we do after that? We start yanking big weight. We don't spend time telling each other that "it'll stop hurting when the calluses get harder". We don't spend time filing our calluses when we get home. We just keep putting weight on the bar without being limited by hands that hurt.

But I have a question for the OP. When did it become a thing for one man to question what another man is wearing? That sounds like some Mean Girls type shish to me. I have no worldly idea what the other guys in the gym are wearing. I don't even see the other people in the gym. I'm there to move big weight, not check out the current men's fashions

But to each their own, I guess. Hang around, enjoy the view.

I can understand if a female did not want to get calluses, but i think even that thought is somewhat dated. as a matter of fact, I don't think any of the girls in my gym wear those gloves and are rather proud of calluses from lifting.

    srsly? No.

I wear gloves and I'm proud of the way my BODY looks from lifting.

In all seriousness i get worse calluses from golfing then I do from weightlifting.

I lift as much as anybody and my hands still look like sissy city hands...
