this reminds me of something similar that happened to some friends of mine and i at a restaurant in cincinnati. the check wasnt labelled according to our weight but it was labelled something racist and derogatory. i being the b*tch that i am found out the name of the waiter, used access i had to criminal records and got his *kitten* fired AND in trouble with the law for not registering in a new community as a sex offender. i think he ended up going back to jail.

and i see nothing wrong with talking to the media. i also did something similar and helped get a boycott together of the restaurant since they pretty much ignored me when we first complained.

treating your guests in a derogatory manner is unprofessional and any place that does it, allows their employees to do it AND ignores it when being confronted with it fully deserve whatever hammer falls down on them

Had it said "Fat Guys"...it wouldn't have made the news. Depending on the guys, Jeff may or may not have been able to return to work.

IF that had happened to me, I would have pointed it out to the manager, not because "OMG....he called me fat!!"..uh..I AM fat. It's kinda a "Thank you Captain Obvious" type moment. But the manager needs to know so they don't start losing clientele and getting bad press. If the food is good, and the atmosphere is what I like, then get rid of the bad staff.

For those who think it's scary to eat in public because you might be judged...well, you're going to be judged if your fat, thin, white, black, gay or straight. Just accept the fact that someone, somewhere, doesn't like you for whatever reason. Unless you're double fisting Big Macs at a stop light in your car on your way to the All You Can Eat Buffet at Golden Coral...don't worry about it. You're eating a meal...just like EVERYONE else who is in the restaurant at that time.

the girls were freaking fat... i could see if they were a little chubby but they were obese and acted like nobody had ever called them fat before.

if you dont want to be called fat spend less time at the bar and more time at the gym and you will see results.

I'm not sure why this is even making the news. Just go to any random junior highschool and take snippets of what the kids say to each other instead. So much worse than just calling someone fat. Why is it suddenly worse when it's done to an adult?

what if it were three dudes and they were clearly gay...and it said....gaylords or flamers. or some mexicans and it said wetbacks...would it be OK then?

    that is being a bigot.

calling a fat person fat is not the same as calling a mexican a wetback.

YES it is. Because it was meant to be derogatory. It was meant as an insult. I saw these females and YES they could stand to drop weight and make better health choices but Jeff doesn't need to take it upon himself to point it out.

FAT PEOPLE KNOW THEY ARE FAT! They do not need a band of lesser weight people pointing it out for them. While I realize there are overweight people that are truly satisfied with their physical appearance the vast majority are NOT. If they were the diet industry wouldn't exist. I agree with another poster who said that bullying fat people is one of the last acceptable forms of discrimination. EVERYONE on this site should realize how hard it is to make healthy choices sometimes. We all got here on our own time and eventually other people will too. Some people will not but that is life. Some people will not make good choices but it is NOT our job to ridicule them and make them feel like sub humans.

I do not think life is fair and I don't expect that everyone be handled with kid gloves but holy crap! If you can't say something nice don't say ****!

They feel insulted, yes, but bullied? Discrimination? I don't agree. Then again, my parents taught me the old "sticks and stones may break your bones but words will never hurt you". Unless you let them? They can be strong and look at the insult as an opportunity to change or they can be weak and over react. We create our own lives.

Obviously the guy thought it was the most accurate way to describe them (and, lets be honest, he was right) and never for one moment thought the comment would get printed out on something that would be given to them.
It was a silly mistake, but really no different than if he'd said the words (to a workmate) rather than type them.
Looks like the girls will (chocolate) milk it for all it's worth, however their time would be better spent joining MFP.

I want to know if the ladies in question were fat.
If it was the other way round and it had been labeled " fit girls"
They woul have been really happy.
So why should rhey be shocked if it was an accurate representation of them?

Maybe it will be the kick they need to get in shape.

Who says they should "get in shape"? Maybe they prefer being fat.

Or, if they don't, how do you know they aren't, or *haven't* lost loads of weight?

I've lost over 100 lbs, but I still weigh 260ish lbs. I'm definitely a fat girl, but I've been very successful at my weight loss. Also, I do identify as a "fat girl", and don't particularly want to ever be skinny. I'm super healthy, before the concern trolling starts... I've just made a legitimate choice for how I want to look.

Also, "fat girls" carries more negativity than "fit girls". Just like I wouldn't expect someone to put, "lesbians", or "black girls", "disabled girls". It's just not the same in society's eyes.

The kid that did it should be fired and the smirking shift manager should be written up and put on probation. Last year a company was in the news for printing something derogatory about an asian woman on a receipt. Any company that uses this type of system as opposed to just saying your order number is #____ should be making an example of these and not allowing a physical description at all. Is it that hard to ask takeout orders their name and dine-in numbers either under the server's name or table number? If we can do workplace training about sexual harassment and such you wouldn't think these types of basic customer service wouldn't be addressed.
As for the girls being fat so it's excusable, no it isn't. You treat people right, not based on their size. Would you want your pharmacist labeling your Rx with something like "herpes guy" or "viagra dude"? Would you go to a dry cleaner that labeled orders in a derogatory way based on race/stereotypes? Such as labeling a receipt Madea or something crass like that. Or objecting a young woman and listing her name as T&A. It's not right.

There is nothing wrong with being called "black girls" at all any more than it is being called "white girls".

    i agree with this.

i think what many people aren't considering is that being called a name when you're out n public by a random person is much different when that person is supposed to be providing you a service that you are PAYING for.

i guess some people are OK with being treated like crap when they are paying customers. i'm not. if i'm paying at your business then you treat me with respect. i dont care what is said behind my back but i for damn sure will not tolerate being insulted, being blown off when i bring up the insult and THEN expected to pay them for the experience?! sheeeeeeeeit.

    Good point.
  • It doesn't matter if it was true or not. If it were a table of mentally retarded people, would it have been okay write "retards"on the bill? I don't think so. We all know our culture dictates what is acceptable and that guy knew exactly what he was doing and that it is not acceptable.

I find it a little interesting that they are more emotionally scarred by seeing the words on the receipt than they are about showing the world the receipt and talking about it...

if it had been me when I was fat....i would have slunk my fat *kitten* out of that restaurant, died a million little deaths of shame and never gone back....

of course I also lost the weight....

No it wouldn't be acceptable as they haven't chosen to be mentally impaired.

My opinion is although it's not the nicest thing to have happened to them, why be insulted by something you have allowed yourself to become?
