If you have trouble maintaining your weight, then stay and log if you'd like. If you're fine in your new lifestyle and you do not want to waste time here on MFP, then say goodbye you can always leave the account open and sign on every now and then if you need advice, want to check in with your MFP friends, etc.0

I'm not there yet... so just guessing. I know in the past that when I stopped tracking I sometimes stopped the behavior. Drinking water is now a habit, so I check that I'm still drinking enough every once in awhile (usually less than once/month).
My guess is that I'll need to track maintenance for as long as it takes me to get there. In other words, if it takes me a year to lose the weight, I'll need another year of maintenance tracking. Then continue to "check in" occasionally to say "hi", whenever I go "out of bounds" for my maintenance, or whenever something disrupts my life and my habits may need to adjust.0 -
You dont, and you shouldnt. I have been at my goal for almost 2 years ( in a couple of weeks) and I spent the last year dealing with some major sports related injuries. MFP keeps you HONEST, and helps you through the times when you cant be perfect. I am always sad to see people leave, it is a daily part of my life, you eat, you log. Good and bad.0

I don't plan to ever say goodbye to MFP. It's been so much a part of me being able to get the weight that I regained from being lazy back off again. I need it to keep myself accountable and keep the weight off now and in the future.0

I can say things on here that I don't feel comfortable telling all my Facebook friends, so this is my second Facebook!
Perfectly said!! Facebook friends don't care what you ate or if you exercised, etc. Except for my "Scentsy Sisters" all of my facebook friends are either friends or aquaintances in real life. I have enjoyed meeting new people on here! It could be a combination facebook/match.com! LOL - at least in here, people are less likely to post 15 year old pictures of themselves!0 -

will probably stay as long as id like to keep a food diary because that is what helps me stay on track and will help me to maintain. im not at maintenance. i have about 20 more lb. i'd like to lose, but i've recently stopped being as social on the site because i just dont feel it anymore. i use it mainly for the food diary now.0

even when i get where i want to be, i will still stay on mfp..i have so many great friends that i love supporting and would never leave them.0

As of now I'm plan to be on here for the long haul. To me this is not just about support for weight loss but a support system for healthy living. It's nice to be surrounded by a collective group of people with the same interests....it keeps me motivated and inspired.0

I don't see why you should say good bye. You could be a great source of inspiration to another person who is where you once were. This is hard work, and many of us wouldn't do as well completely on our own. I think it also would keep you accountable and perhaps aid you in avoiding the pitfall of returning to your former habits.0

I've only left once with the intent of not coming back. It lasted just over a week. I didn't realize how much I needed my support crew in keeping me accountable and motivated. Perhaps its just because of where I'm at right now, in my life, but no less. During the week I was gone I was still in touch with several dear friends. Because if you allow them to - people here will become true friends. Whether you've only met them virtually or not. And I want to be here for those people too. Especially when I've watched some of them grow (or whittle away) over the past year. They're a part of my experience and if I allow them, my life. But you have to be careful too...there is a lot to get caught up in around this site since it's full of wounded people. We all stopped caring for ourselves at some point and for a reason...and if we lose the weight/get healthy but fail to address those reasons, we'll just find new "addictions" to replace food. I should stop now...I could write a book on this.0

I don't see myself saying goodbye. I am in it for a lifetime of health, not just to reach a goal weight. I also love watching my friends succeed in their health and fitness goals- it makes me happy0

I'm obviously some way off at the moment but I plan on easing my way into maintenance whilst logging, logging for a few months after maintenance and then stopping. I will continue to weigh in weekly and as soon as I reach 5lbs +/- goal then I will start logging again until im back to goal. I'm thinking of keeping MFP more as training wheels when im at goal0

The answer is never. The reason we become overweight in the first place is that our food-driven sedentary culture goes against maintaining a healthy diet. We are going against the culture, and that takes teamwork and constant surveillance. Also, for many of us, going on maintenance means allowing only two or three hundred more calories per day. If you begin guessing all your portions, it is very easy to "eat up" those few hundred calories and begin to gain weight.0

I try several days at a time because you need to know if you can keep on track when you can not track all of your foods so I give it a try and if I do not gain then I think I am really on the right track.0

Truthfully, I am at maintenance and I just naturally dropped off logging my food all the time.
Being in maintenance mode has shown that I sometimes go weeks without logging things, but will start logging to do a quick tune up here or there.
I do know that after the holidays, I did eat a lot (I was a little lower, weight-wise, from where I want to be) and am in the process of regulating a little bit. I also have a marathon that I am going to be training for so making sure that I am getting enough calories is important.
My view is that MFP is a tool in the toolbox, the scale is another along with trusting how my clothes fit, and continuing to work out. If the number on the scale moves down too far or up too far it is time to figure out what I am doing wrong and correct it. Just as if my clothes get tighter, or I am not working out, I need to investigate what is happening and get back on track.
I think everyone here who has been successful in losing weight and getting healthy has a fear of what happens now that the weight is off. I know that I don't want to go back to being 236 lbs. after enjoying the fruits of being 166 lbs.0 -
I am half-trying to ween myself off of logging but I do like the forums - reading what everyone has to say and the silly banter as well. I've grown pretty fond of some people here and like staying in touch. As far as logging.. my "goal" is to be confident enough to kick that by this summer. I'll still log once a week or so to see how I'm doing. My log lately is pretty scarce just because I'm seeing what I can do.0

I'm thinking that this may be a forever thing for me. I'm hoping it's not going to be too much of an issue going forward...I'm going to be hitting the gym here pretty hard and eventually, when I've shed the fat suit, I'm hoping to gain. Obviously I'm hoping to gain lean muscle mass only. I have to say...the idea of eating at a surplus again freaks me out a bit...I'm only about 13 pounds from my goal weight and then I figure I'll eat at maintenance for awhile...then slowly increase to gain muscle...very weird concept to me right now since I'm eating at a deficit for the first time in my life.0
