If a bear was chasing you, how far could you run?

Not far, but I just need to run faster than the person I'm with, right?
I've run a marathon - and that was without anything chasing me. But since bears are faster, I'm going with this ^^^ luckily I never hike alone0 -
I'd wait for the bear to stand up once that happened I'd shoot in for a double leg takedown, move to side control knee it in it's side a few dozen times then give it a couple elbows to the face, lastly I'd advance to full mount and go for the KO or TKO and wait for Herb Dean to pull me off while Mike Goldberg was in the background saying "AND IT IS ALL OVER!!!" Once all that was done I'd continue on to what I was doing before lolz.0

I don't think I could bear if this situation happened.
Certainly, it makes you paws for thought.
Although, when this happens, my thoughts get a little fuzzy.
I refuse to panda to you any more.
This conversation sure turned grizzly.
Give me a moment to think of a pun to claw back victory.
I don't think you're koalafied to win this.
A koala isn't a bear therefore I cannot comPooht your reply.0 -
I could run just fast enough for the bear to catch and eat me. I wish I could run like a 10 year old again.0
-
You don't have to outrun the bear, you just have to outrun the person you are out there with0
-
It doesn't really matter how far I can run, since the bear is faster. I wouldn't get very far. But if I had to run from something slower, I know I could run for at least 26.2 miles, since I've already done that in a marathon and I didn't have anything chasing me. For zombies, I could probably run further, though.0

Silly question, but I am being partially serious!
I am training for my first full marathon on April 27th. As far as my lungs and cardio capacity go, I feel like I could run all day. My legs are what bring me down. In addition to running (obviously) I want to strengthen them significantly between now and then so they will carry me the full 26.2 miles.
When I complain to my husband about wanting to stop or struggling with my runs...he says "If you feel like stopping, pretend like a bear is chasing you!".
Lol.
How far is the nearest tree?
A bear can climb a tree faster than you can brother...0 -
I'm the reason my family and friends hike confidently in the Alaska wilderness. They ALL know they can outrun me.0
-
I would play dead. If zombies were chasing me I could run for a good 4 hours.0
-
the bear would get me before I even end typing my answer in here!
I hate running, and i suck at it0 -
I'd shoot the bear.0

It's not the distance that would make me a tasty snack for a bear, but my speed. I routinely run 3+ miles so it's reasonable to assume running for my life would propel me a bit further, say, 4+ miles. Most bears would lose interest before chasing lunch that far but since I am so slow when I jog I fear I wouldn't make it out of reach of the bear. I expect my last moments on God's green earth would be spent being mocked by a bear. I think even Winnie the Pooh could lap me.0

i saw beer at first and then thought why would anybody run
then realized it was bear -- and I would just run in zig zags until i found a place to go inside....then drink a beer0 -
Just as long as I trip the other person, I should be able to gain sometime.0
-
No need to be a fast or distance runner. Just trip your neighbor.0
-
I would drop and play dead, lol.0

Lol, maybe 15 ft. There's no way I could outrun a bear.
Course if there's someone with me, I would only have to run faster than them. That's not how I roll, though, I would try to distract the bear so my friend could get out of there.
And really, if a bear attacks you, you're supposed to defend yourself. If it's a momma bear, though, you're toasters.
I thought you were supposed to play dead for a day attack (which is usually a defensive attack) and fight back if it's a night attack (which is usually a predatory attack).
Now I'm all confused. I hope I never need to know either way.
Edit: And if a bear ever does charge me, I hope I'm well-armed. No assault rifle ban, please.0 -
Not far enough. It is actually a goal of mine to be able to run for long periods of time.0
-
I sometimes pretend zombies are chasing me on the treadmill so I run faster. hahaha #TrueStory
I think I could run a long time if it was necessary. I'm guessing at least 10 miles.
The thing is, I mean, at first Id be scared, but when it comes to the fight or flight response I have always been a fighter. I would probably look for a branch or something and poke it in the eye. hahahaha0 -
I'd only have to run 1 step farther than the other person I'm with.0
-
I have trouble running on flat ground due to a tendency to hyperextend my right knee.
BUT
If the bear wants to chase me up stairs - I like my chances.0 -
it's not how far it's how fast you can run!! It doesn't matter if you can run an ultra marathon if the bear catches you in the first 50 yards0

We had a friend visit a hotel in alaska we were looking at buying. During the inspection he opened the back room door and inside was the current resident, who had been a bit of a problem for some time (they thought he was out). There he was...sleeping like a big fat white lamb...a huge polar bear. I can tell you the response as was related to me...
Crap pants, Close door quietly as bear opens one eye, run to truck screaming like a girl for the gun you should have taken with you on the inspection
The bear chose to move out as he didn't like the noise...or probably the smell of a scared chitless white guy with crapped pants0 -
I would be carrying, so question is irrelevant...0

If you miss, you're screwed.0 -
Well, considering that bears can run up to 40 mph and Usain Bolt can run 27 mph fastest then I will probably could run 10 - 50 meters at most, depending from distance bear started to chase me... then bear would catch me and ate me. :grumble:0

Me: "Bang - bang - bang!"
Warden inspecting the call-in for a dead bear: "Nice grouping!"
Me: "Thanks! Can I keep the meat and pelt if I give you the skull?"
