Anyone else only working out at home ONLY

Not anymore but when I did it was mostly bodyweight exercises. Nerdfitness outlines a few programs nicely.
I love getting their emails!0 -
I've been working out at home for a few years now. I get up every morning at 4:15 and do an exercise video. I have gotten quite a collection and I rotate so that each week I do some circuit training with weights, cardio and yoga or pilates. I believe exercise needs to be a daily habit, just like eating right. So, it needs to be something you can stick with and do everyday. I tried the gym and didn't go if the weather was bad, etc. and I hated spending the money. I don't need the social aspect of exercising, I prefer to do it by myself at home. Those gym classes were always too crowded anyway. (by the way, although I do a video every morning, I do something short and light on Mondays as a rest day - I chose Mondays because my weekends are so active, I usually am tired on Monday morning).0

i'm also only working out at home. a couple of weights or resistance bands usually do the trick. you can also find tons of workout videos on youtube.0

Been working out at home only for 2 weeks, doing Ripped in 30 and there is definitely a difference in my body now0

Yep! I do dance and take group tap classes, but I prefer working out at home. I do DVDs, Zumba for Wii, take walks, jump rope, and also have some kind of strength training going on. I usually get my strength workouts from a magazine (Shape, Fitness) and I'll do them for 4-6 weeks and then change them up. Free weights and resistance bands are pretty cheap, but in a pinch, you can always use cans of food or water bottles for some cheap weights. When I first started, I filled two of my son's bigger sippy cups with sand and used those for weights. They were curved and easier for me to hold onto than cans of food (arthiritis in my hands).
If I'm sick and not up to a strenuous workout, I've been known just to take a walk around my house for 45 minutes. Working out at home allows you to get in fitness however you can without feeling stupid or like you're in a competition.
Don't forget to check online or even on your cable provider (look for a health type channel or on-demand channel) for things you can do for free at home.
Good luck!!0 -
I've done everything at home! I own a bunch of fitness programs and have done them all. I recently invested in a weight bench and a full set of olympic plates and a bar and am currently lifting now. I love working out at home. I never have to worry about what other people think.0

Yesssss....I idid have gym membership for 2 yrs and lost about 15lbs....then I decided to try working out at home last January and I lost 32lbs so far!! I've been workout harder here...I do a lot of DVD's (Jillian Michael's mostly) I have a weight bench in my basement and a trampoline that I use, jump rope...and the biggest thing is I started running last March....loveeeee it.
After a year on MFP....I've lost most of my weight...and now with the running and few extra cardio workouts I'm lifting weights to tone up a little more.
I love not having to go out and drive somewhere to get a workout in...so many other ways to just stay home and do it whenever you have time. Running up and down stairs is amazing workout...and using your own body for resistance is so much cheaper
Good luck!!!0 -
I'm 15 days away from 1 year of working out at home. ALL my workouts have been home based apart from running. Gyms are over- rated. If you cant afford weights...fill a bottle with wet sand or wet dirt..... there you go. Youtube has plenty to offer for free. Walking, running. A ladder can be great to use as well. Resistance bands. Hand weights & kettle bells. Medicine balls. Yoga, pilates.
See all done from home. I have not set foot in a gym. Never will. I reached my goal weight in 8 months, I'm now below that at 12.0 -
Over last 15 years I have been working out at home, periodically going back to join gym, just to later terminate my membership. There are some things I like about gym - various group classes and pool. But it takes a lot more time to workout at gym because of time traveled and eventually I find myself not going. My gym is only 10 minutes drive away, but still.
At home I have different series of workout DVD's and hand weights - 3, 5, 8lb, and looking to get 12lb. I have resistance bands but I am not a fan of those. I got a pull up bar and elliptical. I used elliptical in long winter nights before I got my Doberman, now I walk / run every day with him.
Over the years I have gone through different workout DVD's that I liked for period of time - Tae Boe (anyone remembers those?! ), pilates, yoga, Debbie Siebers (big fan), Jillian Michaels, Biggest Looser series, and now I am P90X. When I did not had DVD or VCR I had my own workout routine I did. That works the best for me.
My local library has a lot of workout DVD's and if I ever want to try something new before buying it, I can get it from library.0 -
I workout mostly at home as well like others its a mix of Jillian Michaels and Turbo Fire dvds just recently I've also started running up and down the stairs (we live on the21st floor) but that'll only be helpful if your in an apartment building.
If I'm short on time sometimes I just put 1 song on and either dance around like a crazy person or do things like jumping jacks/high knees/butt kicks until the song ends.0 -
I seem to have survived 41 years and have never entered a gym.
I've seen them, glanced at the occupants through the window ... the sight didn't do anything for me.
I walk, I do basic, natural, bodyweight work, I do yardwork, I play cricket sometimes ... that's me, and very happy I am0 -
I don't go to the gym to workout cause I don't like to workout in front of other people. At home I have many different DVD programs, (P90X, 30DS, TurboFire etc.) I also bought a treadmill, I have hand weights and a lifting bar.
I get all that I need with that.0 -
only at home! I was doing P90x...just purchased a Bowflex treadclimber so now I am using that and about to start mixing in P90x and hopefully Insanity soon! I also have a lot of free weights and like to use them when I am not doing the DVDs. I love working out at home vs the gym because I am very self consious and just feel like I work harder at home.0
-
I walk on my treadmill and do dvd's.0
-
I use the Wii, exercise videos, and youtube, plus my public library offers yoga and zumba twice a week (for free). Plus I have a dog to walk and 5 acres to push mow during the warm months!0
-
I bought a kettle bell and work out with some videos on YouTube.0
-
I only work out at home... so much more convenient! I have a mix of Beachbody programs (Les Mills Combat, P90X, Turbo Fire, ChaLEAN Extreme, Hip Hop Abs, etc. etc). I love having variation to mix up my workouts!!0

I work out soley at home (and occasionally when it's not freezing at an outdoor track - that's free). I revolve between 30 day shred and Biggest Loser Cardio Max. I'm impressed with both of them. I would love to get another Biggest Loser DVD also.
Side note, I'm not a fan of Biggest Loser, but for some reason I actually like their DVDs. I think it makes me feel better than many of them people on the video are having the same weight issues I do!0 -
I turned a spare bedroom into a home gym. Treadmill, Weider home gym, 5-position bench, a set of dumbells and an exercise ball. I ran cable into the room and mounted a small tv and dvd player. Most of the stuff was purchased used off of Craig's List..0

I have only worked out at home as well. Spring/Summer I mostly walk/run outside. During the colder months I do my treadmill & elptical.0

Honestly, I feel like I get a better workout if I do a video at home. I used to have a gym membership and I felt like I was wasting my time & money. I lost weight slower, and it took a lot of time out of my day to go to a gym for 2 or 3 hours.0
-
I work out at home. i've done both over the past year, but I terminated the gym membership and am strictly at home now. I do P90X, Jilliam Michaels, jump rope, I youtube videos, and for xmas my husband just bought me a treadmill off craigslist! Super good value for a basically new treadmill that someone else wasn't using!0

I also only work out at home. Currently do Fitness Blender's 8 week program (they have a website and a ton of stuff on youtube). The only thing I had to buy was a small set of weights, an exercise ball, and a mat. Much cheaper than the gym, still effective, and it will keep you away from the flu!0

Hi
I walk to work and back which clocks up an hour a day and doesn't take much longer than driving in the rush hour.
I also do zumba on the wii and Davina McCall's dvds which are really good. Usually only manage a dvd once a week unless I'm not working then a bit more.
On this routine I either keep my weight down if I eat normally or I lose a pound a week on 1200 calories a day.0 -
I used to go to the gym, but I didn't like the way the manager was running the place. One of the instructors was out a couple months for surgery and left a couple ppl to cover all of her classes while she was gone, but the manager decided to cancel half of her classes instead so she didn't have to pay the other to cover them. That kind of thing really just hurts the ppl who want to do the classes and it's not right. Anyways, I already had an exercise ball at home and a hybrid bike I rode while it was still warm out. I ended up getting a mat and a wind trainer for the bike so I can train indoors. Found a ton on work outs on Pinterest that I go through, use a different work out every time, and then put in about 30-40 min on the bike, sometimes with the help of a video that came with the trainer. I work out every other day, and haven't missed a work out since I started at home.0

Im a uni student, no way could I afford a gym membership. I do a 20 minute workout every day in my bedroom and find that is enough to achieve my goals. Not a fan on exercising and would rather spend money on nice healthy foods then gym memberships!0

I'm working out at home at the moment. It's not as good as the gym, but there are no inexpensive, convenient gyms near me and I have been more consistent at home recently.
I have access to a walking treadmill and a bosu, and have dumbbells in a range of weights. I also have a heart rate monitor, rep counter, interval timer, stretch straps and a folding exercise mat. My iPod, smartphone, or TV are also essential.0 -
I work out at home too other than one zumba class a week.
Over the years we have bought several bits of gym equipment and recently I have started lifting so we have bought some additional weights so our garage is converted into a gym. I walk or run the dog 3 times a week (hubby does the other days), do weights 3x week and sometimes run on the treadmill. Until I started lifting was doing Jillian Michaels 30DS and BFBM.
I work out at home mainly because I can do it with my 2 children at home, either in the early morning before work or in the evening.
Feel free to add me : )0 -
Only working out at home. On nicer days I'll walk to the park with the kids & walk around the track. We had a membership at the Y but it lapsed & I just never renewed it. I do miss the Zumba classes but otherwise I'm doing better with weight loss now than I was before.0

I'm another "at home only" person. I'm intimidated by the gym first and foremost, but I can't afford it either! I referred to my back porch as "Chris' cardio cave" after I bought a used ($50) gazelle glider. I lost most of the weight I've lost just watching what I eat and using that. Eventually I bought a used exercise bike (another $50 which I sold for the same amount not long after b/c I hated it), a used treadmill ($60), a Body by Jake Bun & Thigh machine ($30) and at Christmas I bought myself a new Gold's XRS 30 home gym ($200). I've also started by never finished several dvds, including JM 30 Day Shred and the buns and thighs dvd.
I bought all my used stuff from Craigslist as well. There are a lot of bargains out there, you just have to look. Also, you can youtube any kind of workout video. I'm close to goal, so what I'm doing is working for me. Good luck to you! It can be done.0
