I was (and still am) sick of my boobs resting comfortably on my stomach as I sat down. I've never had this much belly fat in my life evern when I was growing babies.0

Being hispanic and from a family with a long history of heart disease, diabetes, etc...I didn't want to end up a statistic. Furthermore, I have 2 wonderful children that I want to see grow up, graduate college, be successful and have their own kids (not right away mind you). I want to be the father that my son gets to play basketball against, the father my daughter runs 5Ks with (which we have run about 8 to date...plus or minus).
I guess I just wanted to be healthy and a role model for my children...how dare I say, you should be more active and eat healthy while munchingon donuts in front of the television...LOL0 -
May God give you the strength to see this through. I educate diabetic patients everyday and the toughest nut to crack is the one that each person CAN control their diabetes, but it is up to each person. The medical team can give advice, medications etc, but it is ultimately the choices each patient makes that either help control or make them vulnerable to their diabetes.
Keep it up. I have a patient, whom I will call Mr. Jared, (not his real name of course) who lost over 90 pounds over a 9 month period and is no longer on medications for diabetes or high blood pressure. While you are insulin dependent, that is a totally different story, but you can prevent some of the complications you mention if you keep your blood sugar as close to normal, as long as you can...Diet and exercise are big helpers...I admire your determination and pray for your success!0 -

My weight had been slowly creeping up. One day I stepped on the scale and it read 169. I thought "heeeellllll no!". I made a promise to myself right then and there that I would never reach 170 in this lifetime, and I haven't. Currently 151.5 and still working on it.
Also, several years ago my father died of heart disease and respiratory issues. In January of last year my mom suffered a major stroke and is now confined to a wheelchair with no use of her right limbs and can barely talk. Diabetes has taken several of my relatives. I refuse to die of any of these conditions if I can help it.0 -
I didn't realize how big I had gotten because I was in such a deep depression for a long time, it's like one day I woke up and realized I was the "people you see on TV" big and I could not walk from my couch to my bathroom without excruciating pain. I didn't even feel human anymore, and I knew I had to do something or I was going to die.0

I went to visit my mother in Florida. For some reason, being there for that time changed my whole outlook on myself...
Sometimes, these things just happen.. something just snaps, and then you notice how DONE you really are.0 -
I saw a picture of myself next to three 'normal sized" people and realized i was the size of all of them combined! I had no idea how large I was.0

When I realized my BIG girl pants were waaaaay to tight and some stores didn't carry my size anymore...its embarassing to only be able to order your pants online0

My church fast at the beginning of each year for religious reasons, I noticed that I was losing and people noticed so I just kept going.
My job provides a gym for their employees for an affordable rate, I no longer had an excuse.0 -
I didn't want to be almost 300 lbs Mom talking to the doctor about my son's weight. I was concerned cause he is a bit food obsessed and I felt like I didn't have the right to talk to the doctor. I can't wait to take him to the doctor soon. He is turning 13. He hasn't gained any weight in quite a while. Now, I will probably go in there and be a worried Mom about that. LOL0

I became infatuated with martial arts. I want to study Tae Kwon Do but not at 261. At this time I also realized I was almost 100 lbs. over weight0

mom died. Also, got on the scale for the first time in a year (didn't own one and never go to the doctor) and I was almost what i weighed when I was pregnant. Mind you, the day I had my son I was 6 lbs less than what I was BEFORE i got pregnant, in other words, NONE of that was "baby weight" just good ole' fasioned fat! lost 8 lbs in 2 months by quitting non sugar free energy drinks that I had every morning, didn't even exercise. Pretty good motivation!0

I have always been health conscious but after I got married I got comfortable and happy! We started eating out a lot and making poor food choices. My husband does not work out so I stopped working out/running as much as I had before. I joined a new gym and fell in love with their workout plan and started going regularly. The did a company-wide weight loss challenge and I took part. I still did not lose any weight. Finally in late 2012, I decided it was time for a change. I made it through the holidays without any weight gain and started watching what I was eating. I also started attending my gym classes 3-4 days per week. We started another weight loss challenge on Jan. 17 and I went all in! I have lost 5 lbs in 3 weeks. My goal is to get down to 130 which I have not seen in many years! I am also studying to get my nutrition counselor certification so I figured I needed to practice what I preach!0

My wedding pictures.... *ugh*
This^^^ I felt so beautiful on my wedding day (last June) until I saw the photos and realized I looked four months pregnant. Just about broke my heart.
The other thing was having to clear out clothes that were too small from my closet for the second time in three months. That was it for me.0 -
The BF will be proposing soon, so I'm getting a jump start on the wedding weight loss.0

Hitting 200lbs. I carry most of my weight in my lower half so when I looked in the bathroom mirror every day I thought I looked pretty great. Only after stepping on a scale did I realize just how heavy I had gotten; I started eating better the next day.0

I have a trip to Maine this summer and it requires flying on a plane. Soooo I need to lose weight to feel more comfortable flying in an airplane seat. Unfortunately it's slow going and I'm not going to reach my mini goal by July like I'd hoped, but I'm hoping it will be enough for me to still be comfortable on the plane.0

I had recently bought a pair of size 22 jeans and started getting too big for them. I refused to buy 24s. I'm down to 14 now & hope to get into the single digits before I'm finished!0

My doctor scared me in to thinking I would walk out of the room and die. She overplayed it, but it was still a wake up call. I wish my progress was better, but I can see change...it's just been so slow.
Yeah but think, how long did it take to get to your current weight? How long have you been carrying it?
So why should it go instantly?
Give yourself a break and be realistic.0 -
I had once gotten to 235 in high school and ended up losing almost 60 pounds and was 178 at my smallest. I got a new job and went from being active at my job to an office position. Since then I've gained more weight but kept telling myself I was never going to be 200 again. Welp I was 210 when I decided to start again and this time keep the pounds off for good.0

My husband told me how he really felt about my weight gain, since our daughter was born, during a bad fight earlier last month. It wasn't the fact that he was bothered about my weight (he loves me the way I am) but MY entire attitude about it and my inability to never finish what I start. And he was right. I say I will lose weight/diet/exercise only to follow through a couple days and go back to my old ways. I guess it was more that I was not only unhappy with myself but I was also becoming a disappointment to my family which, in turn, became my catalyst.
My approach is slow so I don't set myself up to fail. I've lost 3 lbs in two weeks and signed up 2 5K mile walks this year. I also started practicing yoga, which not only helps me touch my toes (couldn't do it before!) but also connect with my body and mind and have an overall acceptance of myself so I can make better choices. I'm learning to cope with stress in an entirely different level (instead of resorting to booze all the time).0 -
A PHOTO did it for me! I didn't feel 'fat'. BUT I had my photo taken with a group of Navy Moms and when someone posted the photo on a website, I thought, 'Oh my God, I'm FAT!' I felt embarrassed for being so fat....... Hello.........
I want to be proud of myself for the way I look and feel. My adult children have praised me for losing weight and tell me how grateful they are that I'm taking better care of myself. It's important for them too because I AM important to them.0
