Does a little bacon hurt your diet?I don't eat it often, maybe 1-2 times per week. I refuse to eat turkey bacon. I can eat less bacon. I cook it in the oven vs stove top so that the grease falls off more. I've heard a lot of people say that they stay away from pork because pigs are dirty lol and for religious reasons. I don't get it. Should I really give up pork? Can pork hurt my weight loss even if its in moderation?

Do you get a specific brand? low sodium or anything like that?0 -
I have 3 pieces of bacon every Sunday morning. It's my treat and I budget for it. Life without bacon just isn't worth living!0

If eating bacon is wrong, I don't wanna be right!
As long as you're staying within your calorie intake for the day, no certain food is going to keep you from losing weight (or make you gain weight).0 -
eat it.. 2 pcs of costco low sodium bacon is 90 cals...0

I love pork! Bacon, carnitas, ribs, chile verde, chops, tenderloin ... mmmm... it's my favorite.
If you are not a vegetarian or excluded from eating pork for religious reasons, then I'd say go ahead and eat it. You might want to watch the amount of bacon you eat because it is high in fat (and therefore calories) and high in sodium. But, as long as you don't have a problem with sodium (ie: swelling, water retention, high blood pressure) and you stay within your calorie range while logging, then it won't be a problem.0 -
center cut bacon has the same calories as turkey bacon, a bit more fat/ Look for "center cut"0

YES! Eat your bacon, woman! Eat, log the protein and enjoy. Bacon in not nearly as terrible as the media likes to portray every six months or so.0

I don't have any of those issues :-) Do you have any recipes for carnitas?0 -

Calories vs. Exercise equals weight loss. If you add the calories to your daily intake why would it keep you from losing. And pigs are not dirty. They are very clean and will only potty in one corner of there pen. They are so sensitive that when you raise pigs you have to be careful that they don't catch human illnesses0 -
If weight loss is your only goal, you can probably squeeze it in there in moderation. That said, if overall health and well-being is your goal, you need to keep i mind that bacon is high in fat (68% of its calories from fat , cholesterol and sodium (two slices contains 167% of your rda of sodium). It is also a processed red meat and research shows links between processed meats and cancer.0

I know all about pigs. My grandfather had a pig farm. I just thought other people knew something I didn't regarding weight loss. I'll keep in mind that as long as I'm not going over my daily calories, a couple pieces of bacon won't hurt me.0 -
Meh, Everything in moderation. Just don't over do it.
I say that and I am not even a meat eater!0 -
I only eat higher quality bacon, usually Applegate Organic uncured Sunday bacon. As a bonus for weight loss, it's only 60 calories/2 slices. Fat keeps you satiated & full longer so I wouldn't hesitate.
ETA: If you get your fat from high quality, traditional sources the fat & cholesterol content won't matter much & won't clog your arteries & kill you. I highly recommend the book "Real Food" by Nina Planck if you want to learn about real food. It's eye-opening & more people should be aware.0 -
I didn't know pork was red meat! I have so much to learn about eating healthy.0

Eat all the bacon! Cue gratuitous, food porn bacon gifs.
That said, I feel like nothing in moderation is off limits.0 -
I eat it at least once a week. I have lost over 40 lbs in 5 months.0
