Who is the most obnoxious person at YOUR gym??

There is an older guy (60ish) at my gym who loudly grunts and moans - on the Elliptical!! :noway: I would be more understanding if he was really getting at it, but he just mozies on it for about 10 minutes
Maybe his hip hurts. That's what happens to old people. Their hips give out. Life Alert helps them when that happens.
Hahaha...um no. He gets around just fine, and is actually quite fit. And it's not 'pain' sounds he's making, if you catch my drift0 -
Well I tend to ignore the free weights area (might get over that eventually) because groups of flexing men kind of intimidate me ha.
Yep my small town gym is pretty pleasant actually. The worst thing I see is people not cleaning the machines after they use them occasionally.
I read some comments on another forum recently and it was women talking about how there are men who get patronising in the weights area or act like they are thinking "hey what is a woman doing here?". I find it a bit amusing that some men feel threatened by women in the weights area or get competitive with other men.0 -

When I am at the gym, I just see a bunch of other people doing their work outs.0

How can people act like they are thinking something?0 -

Yeah that was an interesting sentence construction. The poster was. I believe, referring to body language and tone.0 -
Hmm, can't think of anyone so it must be me.0

I totally agree. I never judge anyone at the gym. Before I clicked on this thread, my first response was "I'm glad they are there, plus it gives me something different to observe for the day, but I do not judge them". Keep it up! We need more people like you at the gym. The ones that judge others are not serious gym "goers" and do not stick around at the gym very long, they NEVER do. I silently mouth the words to my music while I'm on the treadmill running. At least I'm running and I'm there 5-6 times out of the week and I've been going consistently for 2 years now. I love my gym and the people.
Also, the gym I attend is ridicously expensive, but I guess that is why I have no problems with the people. It's a very nice gym.i hate these damn threads. every time someone wants to start lifting they post how they are scared to go because they don't want to be judged. and i come in, along with tons of my "mean" friends, and we encourage them to just go work out and that no one is judging them, no one is thinking about them, no one is saying mean things behind their back.
and right as they start to believe it, they will come in an read bull**** threads like this one and wonder if someone is going to be making a post and laughing about them. thanks for making a liar out of me.0 -
I have an older guy at my gym.. He is in good shape, but he often finds an open area in the gym and does Karate with an invisible friend... and makes sure he gets everyones attention with loud "Yas and Has" and other crazy noises when he kicks or punchs.... and then he runs around the indoor track and "pumps" him self up loudly, raising his arms like he just won something....
ROFL! Meh dead with laughter..looool!0 -
I'm sure some of these people in this thread consider average looking dudes with muscles steroid users. I think this is humorous yet annoying. Of course you are going to check yourself out half the time. *kitten* you are in there for yourself. Why wouldn't you?0

It's probably me. While I don't make the typical 'heavy lift grunt' noises, except when pulling at my max, I am a notorious plate slammer when loading the bar. I generally just slide them on with a bit of extra force from the wrist and let physics do the rest. I am also one of those people who have no problem letting the plates hit the floor when I am deadlifting above 90%. Don't like it? Turn your headphones up louder.0

I don't know if there are any at my gym because I'm busy doing my own thing & NOT worrying about what others are doing or not doing. I left that kind of crap back at school.
I'm wondering if those people who are 'obnoxious' in your gym actually think you are 'obnoxious' because you focus so much on them & not what you are actually there for?0 -

There's this one woman, she's a total freak. Sings out loud, dances around and talks to herself. I'm waiting for the men with the little white jackets to come get her! Oh wait....that would be me, but I don't belong to a gym...I work out in our spare bedroom all alone so no one can judge me :laugh:0

I really don't pay much attention to others at the gym. I just do my own thing and leave.0

MOST OF YOU
The things you all get annoyed about is amazing.
I only started a few months ago just before Xmas and so what if they do it their way, what I don't understand is that people are so aborped in their own world that hardly anyone smiles or says hallo.
I don't to have full fledged conversations but I like saying hi and smiling at other people, especially those who I see almost every day at the gym. But if they don't respond I don't think they are obnoxious. Each to their own.
So next time you go to the gym, smile to the grunter, the moaner, the preener, the smelly one, the inconsiderate one or the untrimmed bush one......after all they are all people and in their own way they are trying to loos weight and maybe be a better person. :-)

I work out at home, so there are a few. The kids are in bed when I work out, so they don't bother me. But there's a cat who runs between my legs and sniffs weights while I am trying to lift them. Equally as obnoxious is the guy who tries to grope my *kitten* while I am doing squats.0

The person who decides to offer these cheap promotions to pull more people in....... our gym isn't big, but when they do these three months for £30 promotions, a) I'm paying a lot more than that, b) the gym ends up full of people who think three months will do the trick, and c) most of them stand around talking as they only went because their friends are there and the equipment makes a nice seat or something to stand on while they chat!
I know a gym is a business, and some do go on to take full membership, but its really ruining it for those of us who need to get in there and are serious about exercise, half the time I can't even get in the car park..... yes I do have to drive there as it is too far away to walk
It took me a long while to raise the confidence to walk into a gym at my all time high of 375lbs, now I really want to get back in there but because of these stupid promotions the serious exercisers can't get in.
Don't even get me started on the swimming pool, currently shared with another pool due to roofing works, so all the free time sessions are taken up by swimming classes.......................0 -
At my old gym it was:
The girls in full makeup and designer workout wear posing on machines that I needed to use while chatting with each other or they would slow walk on the treadmills while texting away.
The muscle heads that felt the need to drop weights all the time and make more noise than really needed just to impress their friends and the girls in full makeup just how much they were working out.
Mario Lopez and his stupid sweatband.
At my current gym:
No one. There is a guy in sunglasses who never takes them off in the gym. But that is the extent of it.0 -
My dog barks at me when I jump, and tries to lick my ears when planking. That's pretty obnoxious.
"BOTH FEET ON THE GROUND WOMAN. IT"S UNNATURAL!"

How far is too far away to walk? Anything less than 6km and well, it's not far at all. EVERYONE is entitled to go to gym, if you can then others can as well. Simply put, they run a place where people exercise & I don't know many people who spend $$ not to do just that there. That means the gym can have an many ppl in there as they like, it's not exclusively for 'serious exercisers' whatever that means. I only use my gym 2 or 3 times a week if that..... does that make me not 'serious'? I work my *kitten* off while there & then do a workout at home as well..... plus I'll walk the 4km there & the 4km back, and then still do a workout a day at home anyway.
Guess I'm not a 'serious exerciser' cause I only joined cause they gave me a month free..... 3 weeks go.0 -

I don't go to this gym anymore, but when I went to Gold's there was this guy that wore head to toe spandex....he had these wrist weights he would put on and do these TOTALLY BIZARRE dance/lift type moves WHILE he was on the treadmill...
I mean...it was a cross between free weights and ballet and interpretive dance. And he huffed and puffed REALLY loudly... unnecessarily loud. I'm talking everyone in the gym could hear. Ugh.
Not to mention he showed up one day with a rather large hole in his spandex pants...in a rather inconvenient place. Yikes..0 -
its a real pet peeve of mine that everyone who goes to the gym thinks everyone else at the gym is a 'juicer' who lifts heavy weights or is 'big', there are a **** of natural guys at my gym who are extremely dedicated and get overly annoyed when people instantly think their on roids. There also salt of the earth nice guys who have helped me tons with advice on form and spotting. I would like to hope that when im eventually where i want to be that people dont instantly assume you take steroids.0

This award goes to two equally braindead individuals where I go:
1. Airhead who wanders the gym aimlessly chewing gum and looking at herself in the mirror, only to occassionally get on a cardio machine to make a phone call
THIS! The girl is in amazing shape, but just based off of what I ever see her doing, i don't know how!!!!! She drive me insane.0
