At 17 she isn't even done growing yet - mentally, emotionally or physically. And you are supposed to be almost 30 years old? As a high school teacher, the idea of a full-grown adult dating a teenager really grosses me out. There's such an uneven balance of experience and power in this kind of relationship. Most people haven't really found themselves until their mid-twenties anyway. She is far from a woman. Have you had problems developing relationships with people closer to your own age?

(12 years may not be a big deal when you're older, because you both share equal status as adults. For example, 30 and 42, not a big deal. 12 and 24, pervy as hell. 17 and 29, highly questionable.)

But as a high school teacher are you telling me you've NEVER felt attracted to your students?

as a high school teacher i don't see my students as potential mates. I see them as developing, maturing young men and women. I don't have sexual attraction for them as they aren't in that category in my mind. I can see which of them are good looking, but it means very little. My relationships/connections with them are interpersonal, the end.

    Clearly you aren't a teacher....

    Call dr. phil.

Seriously, why the hell would you pose that kind of question on this kind of site?

I'm in the Chit chat section.

I'm perfectly in within the rules to discuss this here.

Umm, wrong. I'm from Asia. The women here have kids and are all grown up by 14-15. Quit coddling your kids with "you're just a kid" thing. Let them have fun. God some of you talk like you've never been a teenager

You are obviously second-guessing yourself, follow your higher instincts. 17 years old is a world away from 29. Don't be a creeper, find someone in your own demographic.

THIS. World of difference between your two ages. And with the whole Jimmy Savile thing so fresh in everyone's minds here, I think it could go poorly for you, buddy....just saying.

Not really my thing but thanks.
  • I actually felt like you were normal & just REALLY hit it off with this GIRL ( not women ) at first.

But then you legit asked a highschool teacher if they have never been attracted to their students as if it would be so wierd for a teacher to not be attracted to their student or something ..

thats when you started to seem a little creepy . Lol .

im not trying to be rude , your asking for oppinions , your getting them .

& my first comment was not to encourage you , it was to discourage you . Seems like you took it outta context .

I'm 29 years old and the other day I met this girl at the gym. We really hit it off! I asked her out for a cup of coffee and she told me she was only 17 years old! She still gave me her number though. Over here in the UK it's ok to date anyone over the age of 16 so I was wondering if it's ok if I call her?

No. Even if it's legal for you to have sex with her at the age of 16, it's just darned creepy for a 29 year old guy to date a 17 year old girl. Also, unless she's incredibly mature or you're ludicrously immature, you're unlikely to have much in common other than your gym.

    1) Asia is not a country. Saying you are from Asia is like me saying 'I'm white and all white people agree with me'. Bull.

    2) Teachers are all for kids exploring who they are, just not for seedy older men 'exploring' with them

    3) When your kids are teens will you be happy for them to date full grown adults?

    4) Fun is one thing. This is another.

    5) You yourself refer to this girl as a kid and a teenager. Not an adult. Because she's not.

A real life example. My sister in law was 17 when she started dating her boyfriend, a man over 40. They have been together for almost 5 years. Married for 2 and have a beautiful daughter. Just saying it can work.
  • Personally, it fine,
My mum had bad relationships with men her own or similar age, then met this guy who was 18 years younger than her.

they were together for 17 years, till she died, and they were as close as close can be.

So I say go for it and may you both enjoy life.
  • The fact you asked the question, already kinda shows you know she's too young ;)

    Back away Sir!!

Why do you care what others think? She's 17, she gave you her number, she's clearly interested and it's not like you are an old man at 29.

Taunto said : " I'm from Asia. We have a strict policy of old enough to bleed, old enough to breed "

I find this comment very very disturbing !!! An 11 year old girl ( sometimes they can get their periods even younger ) is not old enough to breed !!

I just cannot let anyone say things like this even if it was possibly meant to be a "joke" and I hope it was.
