Ok so I'm at my parents' for the weekend and normally this is when my journal goes hay wire but I am doing my best! I even ate a sub last night for dinner. I'm depending on my group to keep me motivated! But today IS my cheat day so we'll see...0

How is everyone doing so far this week? I had a good weekend and I've been trying to keep up with exercising but I ate out twice yesterday and will again on Thursday night, with my bf's collegues. So I need to plan ahead about what to order because I'm a fussy eater and tend to go with the steak as a safe option but I've had that 2 nights in a row!!! Any suggestions?0

Maybe a small portion of a tomato based pasta dish - no cheese though! - and a big green salad? Otherwise a more lean meat such as chicken? Good luck!
I've had a really bad few days - well really good fun but bad for the diet - since Friday nigt I've eaten out loads and had lots of alcohol and hardly any water. I'm about to go out and get lunch and know that I should get something good to get back on track but I'm craving all the bad things....it's soooooo easy to get back into bad habits isn't it!!0 -

Doing well here. Do you know where you are going for dinner? I would recommend maybe checking out their menu before you go and decide before hand what to have. I have done that with the Friday nights out with the girls and it has helped! I even get compliments that I am being so well behaved!! :bigsmile:

This is the first time I've read this group post and I read through all of them. First I have to laugh, the "happy weight" happened to me and my husband too! We both gained after we got married last year! We're both now committed to being active and eating right. He's lost 9 lbs and I've lost 3. I want to take it slow on purpose, and my focus is on getting fit.
I do Thursday weigh-ins as well.
SW: 160
CW: 158
GW: 140

I do stress that there are measures far more important than the scale-- something my husband reminds me of when I forget. This is a long term lifestyle adjustment. The goal is permanent weight loss, without the feeling of always doing without. Increased activity and awareness of the foods we eat, and of drinking enough water. Right? :-)
So to that end, I want to share something I read when I first joined June 10 (almost 2 weeks ago) that really helped me through my first 3 days (because at the time I was so hungry! And I realized I was cutting too many calories). It was from a lengthy post about metabolism, written to a girl who barely ate enough but was still somehow- impossibly- not losing any fat or weight. Her body had adjusted to less calories into "starvation mode" and was hanging on for dear life. She would first have to learn to eat reasonably and GAIN WEIGHT until her metabolism re-adjusted, then diet correctly, which might take much longer but in the end would work. The post told her:
Do not give up too soon.
HAVE FAITH IN THE FIX.
Quality food intake. It takes time for glycogen levels to balance out. It takes time for mental adjustments to occur. Low carb and low cal followers will see the scale go up as soon as reasonable consuption begins again.
If I find the post I'll put a link because it was amazing. It really got my head around what I wanted to commit to, it made all the difference with me hanging in here and feeling as great as I do now!

Yeah, me too. if I have a few calories below my recommended amout the comment says that my body could be entering starvation mode but if I eat just a few too many then the number comes up big and red so I kind of feel like there's no win unless you have the exact amount every day which is nearly impossible!
Having looked back on my food diary for the last week I have noticed a few things:
* alcohol is reeeeaaaalllly bad for the calories * Having a big Dominos pizza was a really bad idea as I had my full days calories in half an hour and * chinese food is very very bad - I knew it was bad at the time but now I know it's very bad (although I guess I knew there were healthy options which I didn't pick!).

I'm nervous about tomorrow's weigh in because I've been weighing myself each day and seeing no change. I'm really getting frustrated at no weight loss!! I guess tomorrow will tell the full story! Anyone know if fasting for blood work will affect my results tomorrow? I started fasting last night and I go for blood work in a few minutes but I'm hoping it doesn't affect it tomorrow.0

Not sure about the fasting for blood work but I'd have thought if you haven't eaten for a while it'll have some effect?
Did my weight in this morning and have put 1.2lb back on from the last weight in.....aaaarrrgh !0 -

(Water weight from double to triple the amount of suggested sodium...I have been watching this VERY closely and it appears to have paid off!!)

Week 1 on MFP: I lost 2 pounds this week. As a bonus, my better half, who is not on MFP but MOL eats what I do, lost 2.5!

The results from this morning is 181.5, down 6lbs from last week. WOO HOO, so proud of that number! Never really thought sodium intake would make that big of a difference - but apparently it does. This week my goal is to keep up with my exercise, stay under calories, and drink all if not more of my water!!

Hello everyone! I found this thread and would love to join since I just started AGAIN, today! I think Thursdays will be a good weigh in day since I am off on Fridays, the start of my weekends. I think by seeing my progress each Thursday, it will keep me focused on healthy habits throughout the weekend! Thanks for starting the Thursday group! :happy:

LisaKC, I have been raving about this site to anyone that will listen. I am glad you have gotten your best grilfriend to do this. I was referred to this site from a co-worker. I friended her and now we check on each other everyday. She knows that I weigh in on Thursdays, so she stopped by this morning to show her support! Now you will have a personal buddy to share with as well as all of the wonderful members on this site (well, most of them anyway!!)0 -

Hey Coffeegirl, last night I sent an email to a few friends and told them a little bit about my experience on MFP during the first week. I've already heard from 3 others who may also sign up. I hope so! And there's no such thing as too much coffee in my book! I work from home, and my husband grinds beans every morning, so I have enough java to keep me going all morning.0

No change in weight since last week, and I can't find my tape (just moved) so not sure about measurements...I will do better next week lol. But I feel better!0

Lisa, I work at a coffee plant (cannot say which, but still) so, I am in total agreement with you...but I am a bit hyper today. But I think it is because it is going well!!!

Dang! I totally forgot to weigh in this morning before i ate! I like to do it the same way every time. I will have to weigh in tomorrow. I did take measurements though-- I've lost 1 inch on my hips and a half inch on my thighs since last week!

Coffeegirl, you're welcome I'm glad we have such a great group! Also, I may look into the sodium cutback this week.
My results are not that great and I'm upset but in all honesty I'm blaming water intake or should I say lack of water intake. I normally don't have a problem with getting in my water but since I started a new job, that doesn't give me much time to drink my water, I've been finding myself dehydrated mixed with high fiber is a BAD outcome. So this week's goal is to drink all of my water to help the benefits of the fiber, if you know what I mean. I'm very proud of my exercising efforts which I do everyday, I've went from super lazy to going for a walk at least once a day.
Results for this weigh in:
Weight: + 1.4 lbs
Waist: -1 inch
Chest: -.5 inch

Hi everyone,
Sounds like loads of you are having great success. Annabelle_M, I didn't realise why we should be drinking so much water - now it makes sense, lol ! - Will make sure I have more water today and the rest of the week. Feeling more positive about this Thursdays weigh in than the last - had a fun filled weekend but managed to be(quite!) good and having read all the posts from the last few days - as I can't really check in at home - I know feel really positive again!!!

I am currently halfway through Bethenny Frankel's book, "Naturally Thin" and am questioning if I can really adopt this mentality? Has anyone read this book or is inspired by her philosophies ("revoke your membership to the clean plate club," "you can have it all, just not all at once," "taste everything, eat nothing")?0 -
Not heard of that book, is it big in America? - I think most of you are American right? (I'm a Brit living in London). Sounds interesting - how can you tast everything but eat nothing??!! - spit it out?! - I saw that on Desparate Housewifes I think it was once - Susan put chocolates in her mouth but then spat them out before actually eating them! - All rather odd but maybe it works?!!!
Off to the gym now, last thing I want after a day at work but I guess that's what we have to do!
