For Women: Do you exercise during your menstrual period?
Replies
-
I do because it eases the cramps. I just have to be careful as I can get a little anaemic in the first 2 days. :S0
-
Always. TOM is no excuse to take it easy! And for those who do cramp (I do not) it's supposed to help reduce those aches0

I do, I usually end up doing less cardio, and more weights/aggressive workout (medicine ball throws, etc) It helps my crabby mood too0
-
i most certainly do...NOT. i can barely drag myself out of bed to crawl to the sofa during that time. the idea of me working out is almost laughable.0
-
Yep. All the time.0
-
I couldn't even if I tried... during my period I'm damn near bedridden! But only because I have a fribroid the size of a mandarin orange on my uterus that has a hissy fit once a month during my period. Agonizing pain.
But before the fibroid was a problem, I used to exercise lighter than usual but still made an effort. I have always had at least some mild cramping and fatigue with mine my whole life.0 -
I push through it like a BEAST!!!0

3 posts on the site, posted a link to a dodgy article, and hasn't returned to discuss.
Hmmmm.
But yes. I work through, makes me feel better.0 -
I do not.
My "excuse" is that mere walking leaves me doubled over. Stretching out in the bed makes me nauseous. I sweat buckets in my sleep. My skull feels like it's going to explode with crippling and blinding headaches.
I know, I'm so lazy. What with not wanting to feel like I'm going to fall over in excruciating pain. /sarcasm
(Defensive post is defensive, I know. I just get very tired of being told I'm making excuses. Sorry, not all of us have nice Aunt Flo's. Some of us have *****-goddess from hell Auntie's whose gifts comes wrapped in rusty, razor lined spoons that carve out our insides.)
AMEN. Totally with you on this one, girl.0 -
i do, i have heard it helps cramps to exercise. since i have been on bc for some time i do not get cramps much anymore so that helps a lot. i do know a lot of women who cannot do anything bc it is so bad, which used to be me as well which was why i went on the bc to begin with. i think everyones different0
-
Yeah. But I totally half *kitten* it. I find it inspires me to run more since sitting on the bike is gross with a pad.0
-
I do sit-ups during my menstrual period, because it can help relieve menstrual cramps occuring in my stomach.0
-
It depends how I feel. If I feel ok then I go for it. If not, I don't beat myself up about it.
I get pretty annoyed if its extremely heavy and I just can't exercise but I can't work up a sweat with a big towel down there eugh0 -
Yes. I have some of my best workouts during the TOM.
But, I have more emotional than physical symptoms so it REALLY helps burn off that excess angst...:sad:0 -
I do! I find it lessens the severity of cramps, and reduces the bloat feeling
100% agree with this ^0 -
Yes. . .but I take it slower, a slow workout is better than no workout. I am too wiped out because I also get migraines during my TOM, but NO EXCUSES! Those excuses are what got me 60 lbs overweight!:happy:0
-
I still do the things that are a required part of my life, which for me is dancing and walking. I usually take a rest day from weights on the first day.0

Of course! I can't believe so many of you feel so crappy during your periods- I don't feel ANY different! I'm on very low dose birth control, and have been for the past ~7 years. Since I started taking birth control, I have never had a crappy period. Ever. I get cramps for about 24 hours, I take 2 Advil and it's gone. Boom. And I only get my period every 2-3 months- it's perfectly safe to skip periods on birth control (just skip the white pills and start a new pack). Consult with your doctor first though, please. BC IS AMAZING.0

Great, & glad it worked for you, but it's not for everyone.0 -

I'm not comfortable with taking BC because of the chemical composition that permanently alters a woman's cycle, the risks and side effects.0 -
I'm on the rag as we speak.
This is appropriate.0 -

Your first cycle is always the worst.
Don't worry OP, you'll get through this.
Hang in there.
ps....Vodka does wonders for a gal0 -
Do you brush your teeth that week?0
-
Absolutely! I usually only feel sluggish and lazy on my first day but I still force myself to go. I always feel amazing afterwards!0
-
I do but sometimes I skip a day or just walk if its a heavy flow day0
