I just removed all of my friends...

except for the ones over 40 years old. Being in great shape and having a hot body when you are in your 20's and 30's is nice, but let's be honest...not so impressive. Being in better shape and looking better than 90% of the people half your age...NOW THAT'S SOMETHING! New friends, 40 and over, welcome.

I find that view kind of sad, honestly. I've been overweight for 9 years but you think it wouldn't be "impressive" for me to lose 100lbs?

    That's Youthist! *

Older and younger people do often have different requirements, and it is usually is much harder to stay trim and fit as we age, but as long as people respect and encourage each other I would hope that would be enough.

*Being partly tongue-in-cheek. Many parts of the world are completely Youth-centric.

Actually, there's something to that.... Most of the 40 and over crowd have switched to being HEALTH-minded instead of only focused on WEIGHT (appearance). But there's always exceptions.

However, I have friends of all ages; it's the lifestyle that they choose which determines if we are "friends" here or not. There's some pretty awesome young people on MFP that were able to figure things out a lot sooner than I did.

hummmm guess we can't be friends for another 2 months

I will say the youth of today lives a completely different lifestyle than when I was younger, most live on fast & processed foods only. Everything they need to learn is at the tips of their fingers with a keyboard & computer.

Many children are NOT active at all & childhood obesity is at an all-time high, most children I know only drink sodas & never water.

Even being overweight I have always encouraged my kids to eat healthy (they love fruits & veggies) we ONLY buy milk, water & OJ never sodas, those are a treat when we go out to eat and even then not always. Plus I've kept my kids very active in sports (which they love) but I have several friends who would just assume let their kids play video games all day.

    Just some food for thought!

    Off subject here.

I never let my kids have soda either. I was always appalled when I saw a toddler with a bottle full of Mtn Dew or other sodas. They were bound to be hyper and addicted to caffeine. What a shame.

As a person in her early 30s, I think it would be impressive if I was in good shape because I've been super mordibly obese the majority of my life. Just because I started working on my health and fitness earlier than some people shouldn't keep me from being a good friend.

I am 55 and I admire the young people that are in shape. In my 20s I never thought about exercising.
Was not until my early 30s did I ever even lift a weight. My gym friends are between 25 and 60.
They all have something to offer.

It's okay guys, would you honestly even want someone who thought your hard work wasn't impressive on your friends list? Nope! Looks like you did yourself and everyone else you removed a favor. Win/win.

I thought this place was for motivational help and advice.

you should be proud that the younger crowd wants to be your friends ask your advice look to you as a mentor...or am I wrong?
I guess since Im still young myself I do not know any better. :ohwell:

I have friends who are in their 20s and have lost over 100 lbs.

But yeah, that's really not impressive.

    I bet it was easy.

I think I know what you're getting at, but maybe your expression of it isn't so great? More than a few people who are struggling to get in shape might feel put-upon.

There's nothing wrong at all in limiting the friends list or even putting a disclaimer in your profile that you're not accepting under 30s.

For the record, my 30s were not a healthy decade. My 40s so far have been far superior. Arguably, it was harder in my 30s than it is now.

Wow. I'm in better shape than I was in my 20's or 30's, but I'm not going to devalue people who were smarter than I was at that age and are working hard to attain/maintain fitness.
