I was never a tiny person. But after I got out of Navy, I ate because of stress, boredom eating at night and large portions. I have always been a walker. But, now I make sure I get walking in every day. I am not good at other exercising. But, I try.0

I moved to the US.
American portions are considerably bigger than UK ones and a good guest cleans his plate.0 -
Just didn't cut down when my metabolism slowed in middle school. Was still eating constantly despite not burning itself(As a kid, I didn't exercise much, I literally just burned up everything I ate.) and in middleschool, I didn't stop, didn't realize(I never was one to look in a mirror, lol) until I was very overweight.
In short, lots of pop, lots of chips and candy. No exercise. XD0 -
Working night shift for over a year as well as other job, didn't give me much time to cook or get any good foods.0

Not handling my emotions and problems properly....I binged. I also didn't really stay disciplined enough, and quite frankly got lazy.0

I'm not fat. I'm fluffy
I have been fluffy since I was in high school. I was always the funny fluffy girl. When I got to college, I lost 50 lbs in three months because I couldn't afford to eat. I was hungry....but I looked good!!!!
Then I met the man....we dated.....we got married.....I had babies....I got lazy and complacent all over again. He loves me no matter how fluffy I am (and I constantly reminded myself of that). I figured since he didn't care....why should I?
I was wrong. I needed to care. I care now. I'm working on being less fluffy than I am now.
Aside from sheer not giving a damn, I am a depression eater. Due to the fact that I am diagnosed as chronically depressed, the eating was pretty much all the time. It got really bad after my son died and I just didn't give a crap about anything. But like I said.....I care now.0 -
I love good food, and will eat too much of it. Cakes/pastries with my coffee. Not doing enough exercise. Going out and drinking too much beer/cider.0

I took an anti depressant that made me gain 80 pounds
My father had no idea what portion control is.0 -
Dollar menus and XBox 3600

Not eating all day, then eating fast food, and going out to drink all night.

I've been fat all of my life, and it was mainly due to over eating and being lazy.0

Because my eyes were bigger than my stomach0

IMO, if your reason doesn't include "eating too much" or some variation of that, you're in denial
I got fat because I have always been fat, always ate what I was told, then as I got older ate whatever I wanted and however much I wanted.0 -
By not limiting my portions
by stress eating
by using fast food meals when I was really busy
by medical issues that reinforced my inactivity0 -
3 kids under the age of 5
Currier job with more driving then walking
Gave up on myself
Smorgasbord's became my best friend
Cold weather preventing me from riding my bike
No money for a gym membership or home equipment.0 -
I ate the wrong foods in the wrong portions.
Never exercised; extremely unfit.
Lazy.
Everyone else in my family ate unhealthy and I get given what they do.0 -
How I got fat? I got fat after my son died and I decided food was a good way to grieve. I taught myself how to eat less than 500 calories a day and ALL of those calories was fat. Cheetoes were my best friend and the couch was my haven. I went to the doctor a while back and he told me I had diabetes. He gave me 3 months to get it under control or I was going on insulin. If anyone here is diabetic, you know it is damn near impossible to lose weight once you start insulin, so I quickly lost 30 lbs. Not so very long after, I lost my job, lost my house and had to move in with my disabled father. He died 3 months later (just last month). Although the Cheetoes are staring at me daily, I refuse to honor our friendship!0

College happened. I went from riding my bike 1-2 hours a day to only taking public transport, and living by myself and deciding for myself what I could eat (which was mostly pizza, M&M's and wine).0

Laziness and 6 children0

Eating junk my whole life.
My Mom saved bacon grease to fry things in( can't imagine that now!) and she cooked as though it was the depression and we could lose everything and starve at any given moment.
Lots of comfort food which I used to comfort myself when kids teased me for being fat.0 -
I've gained from the typical college diet. It was fun and all but not having my shorts fit sucks so here's to getting back to normal!0
-
My recent weight gain was due to holiday overeating and now I'm facing the unfortunate consequences. It so sucks0

3 kids. I don't gain weight unless I get pregnant but after having the kids I got so busy and I either missed my own meals to take care of my kiddos or I ate crappy.
Luckily my kids are the same reason I am trying to get back into shape.0 -
Here's how it happened to me:
Lack of education on what proper nutrition looked like.
Too much high calorie fast food with little nutrients. Portions were too big. Daily intake of sugar soda.
Not owning a scale because I didn't want to know what it said.0 -
too many calories going in, too few going out. BAM, fatness.0

Decades long process that started after graduation from college.
All during HS and College was an athlete working out anywhere from 2-4 hours daily. Never had to worry once about what I put in my mouth during those years as I was burning a good 6K-8K calories a day with being so active. Would go out for dinner after workout and down a whole chicken or two BEFORE eating an entire pizza.
That kind of eating works out fine if you maintain that kind of workout schedule but life after graduation just did not permit that kind of commitment to PA.
Combine that with depression and the PA disappeared altogether.
Flash forward a few decades and you have a middle aged fat guy pushing 350#'s.
Just pulling out of that haze this past 6 months or so but have dumped 70+ pounds to date and have sights on getting back into the 195-205 over this next year.
Oh, yeah, here's another reason....
