Weird/Funniest things you have seen at the Gym

The guys who set the machine to the HIGHEST weight, then struggle to do one rep while turning beet red.
The girls who wear shorty-shorts, a bra, makeup, and done up hair (we're talking poof and pageant makeup!) They walk to a different machine after 5 reps then socialize for 30 minutes.0 -
OH, thought of another one.
There's this young guy I often observe in the mornings, he will grab a fairly heavy weight for lateral raises (like 35 or more, I don't remember exactly) and then he will use like a 6-8" range of motion. I always thought when doing those, you were supposed to bring the dumbbells up to roughly shoulder height.
I'll never down on a heavier/less fit person going to the gym even if they have to walk slowly on the treadmill. Everyone has to start somewhere!0 -

There is a lady at my gym who is in her sixties, with dyed-jet-black hair. She wears a flowing white eyelet lace blouse and walks on the treadmill at about 2.0 mph. The whole time she is on the treadmill, she is doing a mix of interpretive dance and zumba moves -- waving her arms, making hand motions, sashaying her hips, dipping down and popping back up. Sometimes she holds onto the front of the treadmill and lets her feet drift way back on the belt and then does this little step move to catch back up. It's truly the strangest thing I've ever seen and it kills me to not laugh out loud when she's there.

I saw some guy lying on a mat texting between sit up sets. That was fine, until I saw that he was wearing jeans and had no shoes on-- his Tims were next to him on the mat.0

I'm sure I'm hilarious to watch at the gym.... especially when I'm learning something new.
But other than me, there was one day when I was working out in one of the old classrooms and a guy came in, took his shirt off, and started flexing and posing in the mirror. I had to move to a new area to continue my workout without laughing.0 -
1. During Body Combat I punched myself in the forehead.
2. In the sauna I left a very detailed imprint of my sweaty bum on the sauna seat.0 -
There is an older woman who comes to the gym almost every morning to walk on the treadmill. She puts the incline all the way up, sets it to 4, closes her eyes, and hangs on to the front of the machine for dear life. I'm glad she's there doing something, but I giggle a little every time I see her.
Edited to add: I probably get people looking at me weird too as I'm still learning and trying new things. And that's ok with me.0 -
Bumping for laughs later.0

At the pool the other day an older (early 50s?) guy walked in and took a very slow walk to the shallow end of the pool. He slowly got in, then stood there at the pool wall staring really hard at the lane for a few minutes. He then set off doing breaststroke (way faster than me!*) and did one length, then got out of the pool, and walked into the sauna.
I dunno, maybe that's his cooldown or something?
*I have no room to talk, because I am really slow. Like, people passing me doing laps while I'm still on the same length. So I am sure some of them are mentally telling off the girl who swims at 1km/h.0 -
I worked as a lifeguard at a fitness center once. We had an adults only (18+) hot tub that was utilized by this one greasy kid who always wore a wife beater in the pool, and must have been just barely 18. Since water was involved, we had to have a lifeguard at the hot tub. One time a fellow guard came into the break room and announced that one of the beater boys (his brother came with him in similar attire, and we nicknamed them) had been caught jerking it in the hot tub. His membership was revoked.0

I started learning how to snatch last night at the gym. I'm pretty sure I was the weirdest/funniest thing to see at the gym for a lot of people.0

Lady on treadmill in high heels.
OMG that made me laugh!0 -
We have a couple probably in their late 60's or early 70's who come in wearing high end work out gear and $200 sneakers. They walk around looking at the equipment, then each one spends about 30 seconds on the recumbent bike before they wipe themselves with their towels (they aren't sweating) and leave. It's quite bizarre.0

Some of these posts make me want to join a gym just for the entertainment...0

On second thought, I'm not sure I want to know.0 -
weirdest thing i see at the gym is the same people every morning. coming in, getting their work outs in. they come and do more than most people do before their first cup of coffee. consistently.

The weirdest thing I ever saw at the gym was a bunch of people minding their own business and working out.
I didn't know you went to my gym?0 -
This guy came into my gym, and started stretching in the middle of the aisle floor. He attempted to do this one stretch where he reached down towards the floor, while having one leg come up behind him. He had no balance tho, and fell over sideways..... Timber!!!! And down he went. Everyone got to see it. Never heard so many people choking back laughter.0

I'm supposed to be working out right now, but can't stop reading this thread and giggling at some of it. Never saw much funny when I belonged to a gym, but there was a guy that would come in, get on the elliptical or treadmill and run and SWEAT and he stunk to high heaven! I would always dread if he was there nearby - it was hard to breath much less workout. Deodorant goes a long way!0
-
Not all that weird but put a smile on my face this morning--saw a guy who was in amazing shape just ROCKING along with his tunes. Head banging away between his lifts and the various machines.0
