How about this...Being 11-years-old and being able to walk into any store and purchase cigarettes AND beer!
The magic words were "It's for my dad" or "My mama sent me." Never had to explain who either parent was because, and I promise you, they already knew and will have called to check before we could clear the door.0 -

I still remember the episode of Reading Rainbow where Levar Burton took the audience to the Star Trek set, and I was SHOCKED when he assumed post as Geordi LaForge, because I had always thought that person ALWAYS wore those awesome glasses.0 -

Stones concerts for 3.00
Roger Ramjet and his Fighting Eagles
Rocky and Bull Winkle
White go go boots and "birds"
paisley print and carnaby street
Spiro Agnew and "effete snobs."
Watergate
The Assasinations of the Kennedys Martine Luther King and Malcolm X
March on Washington and MLK's I have a Dream speech
Mary Tyler Moore

Spending Saturday mornings looking for pop bottles with a couple friends along the roadway so we could turn them in for .02 each. A long day could yield enough to buy a pint of ice cream that we would sit around and enjoy.0

How could I forget: WOODSTOCK0

Two words: American Gladiators0

Sister and I leaving the house by 8am and not coming home until it was at least 7pm.
Playing in the gravel pit, selling interesting rocks,
Building an outdoor fort area down by the river,
Building birds nests and putting them up in the trees hoping birds would use them,
Barefoot races across fields and over gravel roads,
Skip-rope contests to see who could do the most,
Climbing...everything including the house,
Selling tours to our friends of our 'haunted basement'
When my cousins would come to visit, selling seats to friends to watch one of them eat worms. We were entrepreneurs.
It was all with my sister though. Every memory as a kid pretty much included her - except busting my arm and the time I cracked my head open.0 -
OMG, the ice cream truck. I used to always get that tutti fruity/bubblegum flavor thing with two gum balls at the bottom. It lost the flavor after like 2 seconds.
Love this thread.0 -
