My birthday was 2 weeks ago - I specifically requested no cakes. But if there was one that someone snuck in on me, I'd have half a piece.

Holidays and Birthdays (just your own, don't get greedy! ) are the two events you should do/eat/drink whatever the hell you want.

I would eat as much as you can, when you feel sick, stop! lol seriously though, enjoy your day, do not let this constant worry of should I shouldn't I spoil the 2 events where we shouldn't really give a *** what we do.

    Happy Birthday!! :flowerforyou:

Are you kidding? If there's not a birthday cake for me to eat, I will bake my own. I do not fool around when it comes to cake.

I did! Although, much to the dismay of my chocoholic family, I had angel food with berries and real whipping cream! (my favorite!)

Now that is my kind of a birthday cake!

I celebrate someone's birthday once month with either cake, pie or ice cream, WHY would I not enjoy it for my own day!?! It only happens once a year for you - go for it!

I absolutely do eat my cake- right after I bake it and decorate it myself lol.. I know what is in it so there is nothing that is not included in my eating plan I can't eat regular cake for health reasons . If want it I make it myself . but that being said..The key to long term success is making good healthy eating a lifestyle not a diet and allowing for yummy desserts once in a while.. Have a small piece and enjoy it- you only live once! Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday! Heck yeah I would be eating my birthday cake! I'm going to have a piece of my son's graduation cake tomorrow too! Remember, this is a lifelong change. Depriving yourself of everything "bad" all the time will make it harder to change for the long term. Moderation is the key.

go for it! I'm MOSTLY gluten free so on my birthday I opt for really, really, specialty ice cream from a local ice cream shop here in O HI YA. All the pleasure, none of the tummy upset.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Its funny, I too am a chocoholic. But, I do not like chocolate cake. Angel food with berries and whip cream sound delicious.

LOL, me too! I'm such a cake ***re.

Happy birthday, OP! And please, eat some cake! It's just one day. And to answer your question, I indulge on my birthday, anniversaries, holidays, thanksgiving, etc...all of it. I see no reason to restrict myself during those times because they are only a few days out of the year. It's how I/you eat during the other 300+ days of the year that matters...not on those infrequent celebratory occasions.

Also, I demand you post a pic cos this thread needs some cake.

It's my birthday today, and my isster's tomorrow, so my whole family is getting together at a restaurant for dinner. It's authentic indian food, so fatty, creamy deliciousness is inevitable. My only plan for tracking that is to "not eat after I'm not hungry"... on that same level, should i have my cake and eat it too?

It's one day / year, i almost always turn down cake or eat 1/2 a piece. (I'm a mini blizzard kind of person - portion control)
But it's my birthday. If there is cake to be had, i should have it, no|?

What about other monumental days like your wedding, anniversary, etc.

Yes, you can enjoy your cake...here's how this all really works.

To lose weight, you eat at a reasonable calorie deficit from maintenance...BTW, even if you go over from time to time, MFP has such a huge deficit built in that you're still going to be at a calorie deficit...the goal MFP gives you is NOT maintenance, it's a deficit of calories to lose weight. As lifestyle goes, here's what I do whether I'm cutting or maintaining...

I eat a lot of this....

    fruits_and_vegetables.jpg

    and a lot of this...

    1345510032_3516_protein.jpg?itok=kBWi5rN_

    much less of this...

    Junk_Food_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800

while occasionally indulging in something like this..

    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTWj_wWVaZuApQrpF-5TonfujzUp91z9F9CVcvrovJN1-df-kdQ

All the while doing a lot of this...

    diligent1329327376814.png

    and this...

    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSUiF_FgoDe8MnxZYAOJkqiwKQKvJ7PGn-IDOWlp7f71lPhnTPfcQ

    and less of this...

    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTvPoNxwyxPgvQMFKTvVFqw0LP5VmKCg_XjSdGZK4ToJO43juk-

    Then....MAGIC!

It's not about one day, it's about lifestyle and how you live your life most of the time. Think about it this way...if someone who eats nothing but junk food except the eat some broccoli on Mondays and they go for a run on Tuesdays...does that make them healthy and fit? So if you eat nutritiously and healthy most of the time, but indulge in some junk calories on occasion, would that make you unhealthy and fit?

Just a little perspective is in order.
