What size is too big for a bikini?

lol thats a very tough one. i have never wore one in my life... i have seen women wear bikinis and have a 40 inch waist or larger!!!.... wear a swimsuit let alone a bikini and have big thunder celluite thighs... i personally wouldnt wear one unless i had decent porportions whatever size that is....
I also think it has a lot to do with waist size. Currently mine is a 35.5 and I would never wear a bikini unless I got below a 30.
i feel like if your waist is under 35 inches, you are good to go!
But I agree with the majority of the people here. Size doesn't matter - it's a personal thing. Proportions play a big part in size anyway. I have wide hips and will probably look thin at a 10 or 12 whereas my friend is a 12/14 and looks a lot bigger than I do now at a 14/16. Who cares?0 -
Not an answer to your question but I think this adds something.....

it is my legal and God-given duty to instruct you how to get a bikini body. So here goes:
1. Take one body, probably yours.
2. Take one bikini, probably yours.
3. Put bikini on body.
4. Go to pool, beach or other bikini-meriting place. (No, the park does not count. To be discussed another week.)
6. The end.
ETA: I don't actually wear a bikini, I find it hard to concentrate on swimming if I'm worried my knickers are going to float off without me!0 -
A 10. I don't how sexy you feel, but if you hit the double digits in size, I don't want to see your mostly naked body. And I'm a size 18 btw so I'm not hating on phat girls. At least put a tankini on that body.0

The size in which a woman doesn't feel comfertable anymore...0

I think a sexy 1950s pin up one piece looks flattering on all shapes & sizes. I've had a baby so you'll never see me in a bikini0
-
I'm sure its different for everyone, but a sure sign is when you can't see the outfit anymore...
Oh gosh that made me giggle.
But to answer the question, depends on the person some size 16's look alot nicer than a 6 say due to muscle tone firmness etc been slim doesn't always mean better.0 -
I don't think size has anything at all to do with a bikini, I think it is all about confidence, I've seen big girls rock a bikini because their confidence shined. I'm 117.5 lbs at 5'1.5 girls my size are wearing them left and right but I don't have the confidence yet to pull it off.. My personal preference for myself isn't there yet.0

Don't think you can actually put a size limit. I've been anywhere from over 140lbs to my current 95, and I've worn bikinis the whole way through
People's comfort levels are different, and their decision to wear a bikini is usually based upon that rather than some size cut-off or rule.0 -
*sigh - who cares?
I mean seriously, if a person feels confident enough to wear a bikini why shouldnt they. Why the need to judge what size is too big for a bikini? I personally don't wear a bathing suit in general because of how I let judgments of other people affect me, but why judge? If it bothers you DON'T LOOK. They aren't wearing it for you, they don't care what you think and it's really upsetting when someone has to ask the question "what size is too big for a bikini" because it just validates how much another persons opinion, of what we look like, matters.

I was wearing American Size 10s/12s in this picture. I think I looked darn good in the bikini :-)

Its all about confidence, if you like it, do it for yourself. It doesn't matter what age or size either. Why should anyone care.0

well maybe not a bikini but a generously cut two-piece size 18 on vacay where DH was the only person who knew me for 1000 miles in any direction. Sauntered down to the pool to sun my tummy. All the other ladies of a certain age were in skirted wonder-suits. Next day, all the wonder-suits had been swapped for two-pieces and there were almost a dozen ladies of a certain age sunning our tummies. It was great. Sometimes you have to make yourself happy and say eff it.0

That is great because no one cares that you don't want to see their bodies. I would say use a little common sense and DON'T LOOK AT THEM.0 -

As long as the persons comfortable, I don't see a problem.
If they're not something I wanna be looking at, I won't.

I think you should wear one if you want too. If you don't then don't.
People who don't agree can just choose not to look at you.0 -
I don't think there's a size! If you feel comfortable in a bikini then wear one. If you're relying on the opinions of others about your body or your comfort level then you'll simply never be good enough! Look at what people said about poor Kate Upton on the cover of Sports Illustrated!!!
Your body belongs to you. Your soul belongs to you. And MOST IMPORTANTLY your happiness belongs to you. Don't hand any of those to anyone else.0 -
If you have to question it, then don't wear one.0

I give 0 effs about what anyone else thinks. If I feel good in it I'm going to wear it. I go for bikini cause it's so much easier to go pee! I also have had 2 kids and am the proud owner of 1000+ stretch marks. Wanna fight about it? LOL0

You're too big to wear one as soon as you feel uncomfortable being seen in one. I'm a size 10 and don't like to wear them. I have a friend who's more than a size 20 and she absolutely rocks hers.0

Hell yea you do!0 -
The only thing that stops me wearing one right now (US size 12 and not yet entirely toned, but well-proportioned), assuming I was anywhere near a beach, is the fact that I'm a pale blonde with nary an olive tone in my skin. The potential for sunburn in a suit that covers more skin is bad enough without adding the majority of my torso into the mix!
As long as the bikini fits properly, if you feel comfortable in one, go for it. What anyone else thinks about it is no-one's business but theirs.0 -

I recently saw a gal at the pool that pulled off a bikini and was probably a US size 16. She had great genetics to hide the fat. She had very wide hips, so even at her size she had thigh gap. She didn't have cellulite, she carried all the fat deep instead of under the skin.0

If you think you look good and you're comfortable in it, then go ahead!0

Good for you!0

I agree. Taller women may be a larger size but have a complete toned hour glass shape. there are so many bikinis out there (high waist, string, etc) that a size 6 may look bad in a string bikini but look great in a regular bikini or high waist. As long as the fit is not too small or to big and your body is toned..(NO JIGGLES) then you can definitely do it. CONFIDENCE is everything...but don't be silly0

8? 10?
sorry if i'm just totally offending some people right now.0 -
Tagging to read responses later.
I'm not that comfortable with myself so I still primarily wear a one piece at a size 4.0
