a handsome guy who wears a suit and tie every day, and he decides to dye his hair blue, cut it into a mohoawk, and tattoo and pierce his body
I must have missed the part where those two things are mutually exclusive.

Lol, not hating on guys with mohawks, tats, or piercings. Just an example of contrasting appearances.

He's the man and the wife always obeys the husband. I would do what I'm told.

    LMFAO. Nice troll post there.

I'd lose him, and then lose the weight and hope he saw me somewhere looking stunning. :)

  • QUOTE, from Pg. 1: "He's the man and the wife always obeys the husband. I would do what I'm told."

Wow, the answer to my male fantasies!
So, you really wouldn't boss me around? I can come out from under the bed with your permission?

I agree with those who would leave. There's a big difference between, "It would mean a lot to me if you lost 20 pounds" and "I'm leaving if you don't lose 20 pounds!" The second is sick. Controlling too.
Only exception: Doc told you you'll die if you don't take off 50 pounds, then that statement about leaving is just part of a loving intervention (we hope).

I also know someone whose husband started getting more & more agitated as she lost weight - he was afraid he'd lose her. Good news: She put all the weight back plus! Ugggg...

It's not something I have to worry about. My husband loves me for who I am, through and through. We've been together for 23 years and he tells me when he looks at me, he still sees the 23 year old woman he fell in love with. He doesn't see the wrinkle or the extra pounds. I feel the same way about him. I love him, the total him.

    What would you do ?

    Wave goodbye.

My late husband had cancer and was upset about the changes his body went through because of hormonal treatment. We are far more than our bodies. I told him I would always love him no matter what, even if he became disfigured, even if he became paralyzed, I didn't care. I would always love him exactly the same and would be there for him no matter where life took us. He felt the same about me.

I'm so glad that my husband's not a sexist, religious pig who'd tell me to lose weight or else or who would want me to 'obey' him. I rather enjoy being a valued human being on equal footing in my marriage.

If my husband told me to lose weight or we were over and he meant it, he'd also be expecting me to kick his butt out the door.

    Religious pig huh?

    Seriously, wtf?

My husband has hurt me deeply during our marriage by things he's said. I think his brain doesn't work properly.

    That, or he's mean.

He's told a counselor, after the birth of our second child that :

her weight reminds me of my mother.

To my daughter:,If you eat at night, you'll weigh 400 lbs like your mother.

To his ex: my wife isn't shaped like you. You really turn me on.

When I think of these things, it just hurts so badly.

If those are really things he's said, sounds like your husband is an asshat and doesn't deserve to be married.

I'd give him a list of my demands. He would just out right refuse I think. Or worse he would take it all serious like he still has a chance to hold onto me after making a pointless threat.

I was significantly smaller than my husband when I met him. I was just beginning my journey as a recovering meth addict.
Fast forward 8 years and add about 100 lbs....
My hubby has made some references to my weight in the past. My response: Do some push-ups and eat some wheaties or kick rocks.
I'm losing weight at a healthy pace and if it isn't fast enough for you, I have no problem showing you the door.
He has chosen to stay and be more respectful and celebrates my milestones with me.

Yep. Women needing to be submissive and obey men comes from male dominated religions.

I'm curious as to what religions these might be so I can steer clear....

    Right?

Been there, done that. Got the t-shirt. Only now the t-shirt is getting too big. The neck hole is gonna be "show off the shoulder Flashdance style" pretty soon. He's gone and I'm still alive and well. The world did not end.

If that is happening to you OP, I'm sorry. What the SO doesn't realize is that threats don't help. All the threats make your heart a little harder each time you hear them and then it gets easier and easier to imagine your life without that person in it.

I pity anyone who is taking this thread seriously. It's bait and lot's of people swallowed it whole. I'm going to start my own one of these days. I have to admit that there is a talent in asking just the right question to light people's fuses.

If it is a threat, and he is being an *kitten* about it, then I would leave him or tell him that is unacceptable to you. You can only do it for yourself.

If he genuinely cares about your health, and this is his plea to you to try to help you, then I would tell him that while you appreciate he wants you to be happy this is really something you need to be able to make the decision and do for yourself.

My hubby was a smoker for years, and I almost left him after he hurt himself and almost lost his leg because he wouldn't quit smoking (there were other factors too). He did end up quitting, but I nagged him for TWELVE years before he did it, and all it did was hurt our relationship. Some people laugh in the face of the nagger, while others will obey the nagger. Just depends on the person.

    Do what's right for you.
