attention guys- get this book and read your lady or lady of evening a bed time story and thank me later.
Idea generator?
And totally took me back to the abusive relationship I was in when I was 19.
It's like a 101 guide to an unhealthy relationship. Plus she blatantly misused the oxford comma.
And you can get better smut online for free. With correct grammar and less dun-con.0 -
Love him in SOA but I've never read it so I don't know if he fits it or not.
Same here! I have not read the books either. I just think Charlie Hunnam is hot in SOA.0 -

I pictured her inner goddess business a bit like the cartoon segments in Lizzy McGuire. Bit ridiculous, really.

I thought I was the only one that did that! lol!0 -
I don't understand why everyone is so worked up. No one watches porn for the acting.
BAM!!!
We have a winner here folks!0 -

It makes me wonder if she self published the book. The use of repetitive phrases is insane! I had my manuscript professionally line edited and have been going through it and she pointed out several phrases that I seem to use all the time. If the author of 50 Shades had her manuscript edited there wouldn't be so many 'Inner goddess" "biting her lip" and "Oh the tingling DOWN THERE".
Also to those who say it's an unhealthy and abusive relationship it was. It was a BDSM relationship (albeit a bad one. I have friends in the BDSM community who laughed at the portrayal and pointed out all the ways it was wrong especially the fact that she blatantly disobeyed every one of his rules). There are people out there who are into that sort of thing and in fact it is a whole community. There are people who get off on being dominated, humiliated, beaten etc.(the "sub") and those who get off on being the one to inflict it (the "dom"). There's nothing wrong with it when two consenting adults enter into that sort of relationship which they did in the book.0 -

All I know is, as a writer, I'm terribly offended these got published. Before the age of the Internet, they never would have been. Awful, awful, awful.
Boring sex and absolutely no plotline whatsoever. I found nothing redeeming about them at all, except the women who read them on the YouTube things tried to do voices for characters' dialogue and it was quite funny. It was all sort of like that terrible accident you can't look away from at first and then it just made me laugh it was so absurd.
I weep for society that these books are so popular. But then I see people love Mad Men and GOT and I feel better.0 -
Setting aside the ahem "merits" of the book as a literary work, I am looking forward to seeing how the producers translate the "novel" into film. Must log the popcorn and Vanilla milkshake
I popped in to read this thread only because I *knew* you'd make some sort of comment on the topic, Mr 007Bondage!! lol!
I am also curious as to how they are going to translate this without crossing into the X rating.
Does anyone know if they are doing a separate film for each book or are they going to cover all three books in one movie??0 -

It was professionally published. However, it was originally Twilight fan fiction that she put on a website. The publisher picked it up due to its popularity (forget that it's plagiarized) and the editor in charge of the book was told to do very minimal editing, so it went out basically in its original form. Also to those who say it's an unhealthy and abusive relationship it was. They are NOT "two consenting adults." Ana doesn't agree to most of his rules and she doesn't get turned on by his ridiculous controlling, jealous behavior (outside the bedroom). She also uses the safe word at one point and while he stops, he spends the next two chapters berating her for using it. It is not a healthy relationship in any way, shape or form. It is also not fully consensual Christian is a creeper, stalker and emotional abuser and Ana is his victim, not his partner.
I would have some pity for Ana if her character wasn't as awful as his.0 -
The only thing I have to say about this is thank sweet baby Jesus that they did NOT cast Kristen Stewart.0

This. Twilight also depicts an unhealthy and abusive relationship0 -

It's bad enough someone wrote that abomination, but now they're going to violate the brains of the masses by making a movie? Entertainment has gone WAY downhill.
Agreed!0 -

Hearing Kristen Stewart utter the phrase "inner goddess" a few million times would make me want to puncture my ear drum with an ice pick0 -
If you are into any type of BDSM you would most likely enjoy it, kinda softcore pornish, I like to call it erotica.
Really?! I'd say those with any sort of bdsm tendencies or experience are going to be sorely disappointed by this.
This is what I have heard.
I never read the book, I think it is a disgrace to the BDSM community. It is poorly written and to be quite honest I question anyone who thinks it is a wonderful book.
I wont be watching the movie but thats my personal choice.
I attempted to read the book - horrible writing at best, and does no justice to the BDSM community. I posted this exact sentiment on my FB and it is amazing how many bored women are aching (literally) to see this.
I will not waste my good money on this piece of rubbage either!0 -
Does this mean we're going to have to hear about this all over again?0

Yes...let's just hope they condense the 3 books into 1 movie...0 -
Disappointed in the casting, i'll still go see it out of curiosity.0

I can't talk about it on FB. The last time I brought up 50 Shades majority of my friends list over there came after me with pitchforks and fire lol0 -

It should of been Alexander Skarsgard damn it! :grumble: :explode:
Edit: I'm not a fan as such, it was okay to read although I couldn't finish it through being utterly bored but Alexander is HOTTTT0 -

I have never read any part of it nor will but a person who did described the general plot and I said "so it is a book that makes a parody of all the stereotypical bad/stupid choices a woman can make getting into a relationship".
My guess is that it brought something a bit mysterious and perhaps taboo for many into a bit of the mainstream so it was their first real reading of BDSM stuff (disclosure...not my thing but not offended by it) and as such the book was alluring.0 -

But it's soooooooo romantic0 -
I made it through the entire series. I do not know how. I was also attacked because I don't "understand." I picked it up because, well, I like BDSM. And not like, "Oh you have furry handcuffs, how kinky!" Nononono. But this book wasn't even that. I did not think it was possible to be bored with sex. Also, worst story imaginable. Uninteresting brunette attracts hot overprotective rich dude because she is "innocent" or "different." Aaaaaand that's about it. Oh and she's gone 22 years without anything distrastous happening to her, but as soon as this dude comes into the picture, CATASROPHE. Holy repitious phrases, Batman.
Please don't get me started on how we are supposed to believe this woman is intelligent. So you read Jane Eyre. Big deal. She also gets a job and is instantly promoted to head honcho because she is with Grey. Is that what we're teaching girls now? Get yourself a hot/rich man and you'll never have to work hard (i.e. Twilight and 50 Shades.)
Anyway, I could write a book about how terrible it was. In fact, I just may because based on the sales of this thing, anything is a best seller!
Sorry about the rant, but no one I know will read this book lol. I only did to see what the fuss was about. If someone out there loves these books and it is their lifeblood, then don't be offended. I don't hate you; I hate E.L. James.0 -

Same.
The casting so far s u c k s -sorry-, but we'll see...
Of course the movie won't be as good as the book but then again, I'm really curious!0
