Me who just don't care about sports (feel like the only one)

We don't watch many professional sports for the same reason many others have posted (difficult to root for multi-millionaires, many who we can't respect as individuals or role models). I do love college basketball (I cheered for a D1 program in college), and my husband watches road racing because he's an amateur race car driver/race director. There are exceptions for a hometown team here and there.
We do watch soccer, mostly because that has been our son's current sport of choice for the past 7 years as as a result we understand it. It's somewhat difficult to watch on TV because you cannot see the entire field (and in many cases the play develops from the back)0 -
Oh - and I thoroughly resent it when they preempt one of the few TV shows that I watch for a freaking baseball game. :grumble:  There are bunches of channels dedicated to sports (which I *never* watch) that I am required to pay for to get the channels that I DO want...keep your darn sports on there and leave my shows alone. :explode:0

Huge fan of the NFL. I will watch as many games as I possibly can, make fun of Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger, drink whiskey, eat spicy wings, try to spot the penalties before the refs or linesmen can, belch and fart.0
-
No interest, unless you count when i was 19 and into semi-pro arm wrestling0
-
I like hockey. And baseball. And MMA fights. But I feel no pressure to follow any sport, and I don't think it's weird when guys don't have an interest in sports.
This.
however, I'm into a bunch a stuff, just won't watch it on tv.
Shooting, fishing, hunting, boxing, cycling just to name a few.0 -

haha tom brady. still cant believe they let a girl play in the NFL.0 -
sports. meh.
i dont hate watching some mma (though thats sorta run its course as well), but in general, it's just not for me.0 -
I think we have a serious problem in this country when we pay grown men millions of dollars a year to play games when teachers have to pay for their own classroom supplies, soldiers returning from war have to wait months or years for proper medical care and a person working sh---ty jobs for minimum wage have to work 60-80 hours a week just to put food on the table.
^^ This ^^
Seconded.
I hope you're not mad at sports but rather your government. Athletes deserve every penny they get because we gladly pay the ticket prices so we can enjoy ourselves. I scratch my head at how so many Americans are "patriotic" and support the troops yet they will boycott sports and entertainment because they get paid too much. Why not boycott your gov't?0 -
I hate sports. I don't see how people can watch someone else play a game for hours and I don't see how there can be sooo many sports channels. I hate to even hear ppl talking about sports.0
-
my husband doesn't like sports I don't either your not that alone0
-
The only sport I watch is Rugby Union, I also like watching the Superbikes (when time allows), that's about it.0

and many of those serving overseas WISH they could watch their sports team play. You know how happy troops are when they get a rare chance to catch a game??? sports is more than just grown rich men tossing a ball.0 -
I don't think it's weird to not like sports. If you don't grow up in it, it may be hard to get into. I however DID grow up in a sports household, and have the NFL channel, play fantasy football, watch NHL, and still play competitive tennis and softball. I understand no everyone is into it, but life seems so empty without them!
I do believe that as sports teach kids valuable lessons, and even if you're not into them, they have good benefits. Sports tought me discipline, competitiveness, and never to quit. Plus, they're fun!0 -

sort of? It jumped the shark about 5 years ago.0 -
Other than the Olympics and my college football team (GO DUCKS!!!) I would rather do almost anything than watch sports on TV. Sure I'll do a superbowl party or something but more to be social. I like to watch the odd live game, especially baseball but the thought of watching hours of sports on TV, reading up to follow all the teams...yuck! Who has time for that?
And yes, even as a woman I often feel a bit of a misfit with my anti-sports attitude, mostly at the office, especially this time of year when everyone is hyped on fantasy football.
But I've accepted being a nerd, so it's cool.0 -
Football and MMA....yes Cliffy has the NFL Ticket....all the games!0
-
I am one of Those guys.... I don't watch sports on TV, hell I don't watch much tv. So, I guess you ain't alone! lol0
-
Not really alone...I do like football, but that's about it...but I'm not really fanatical about it. I'll catch a couple home games at UNM and I like to watch a game on Sunday if I have the chance (but I'm usually too busy).
I haven't watched the World Series since 1993...I only watched it then because I was in boot camp and my DI was a fan of one of the teams and told everyone to watch and root for his team or alternatively, clean the head. I don't think I've ever watched the NBA finals or even a complete NBA basketball game. I will take in a Lobo basketball game maybe once or twice per year for basically, something to do and it's pretty good basketball.
For myself, I've always preferred individual type sports...I ran track growing up (which is technically a team sport, but not really in the traditional sense)...I did gymnastics...swimming, etc. I played one season of football and it wasn't my thing...I always preferred individual sports.
Was your DI a Phillies fan? That definitely sounds like how we roll0 -

How about we pay the troops what sports figures get paid.... now there's an idea!0 -

haha-- either philly or toronto-- but this has Philly written alllll over it. lol0 -
I dunno about pressure to be a sports fan, but try being a woman not interested in babies. "Coo, coo, want to hold her?" Me stepping back, "ahh no thank you."0

I don't even follow the "pros" of the sports I engage in. Don't really care. I train to compete against myself, no one else.
And as far as NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB, etc. goes. I think we have a serious problem in this country when we pay grown men millions of dollars a year to play games when teachers have to pay for their own classroom supplies, soldiers returning from war have to wait months or years for proper medical care and a person working sh---ty jobs for minimum wage has to work 60-80 hours a week just to put food on the table.
I do actually follow one sport, but there are no professionals in it. No pay outs, no endorsements (and consequently, no performance enhancing drugs - unless you count hot chocolate and brownies).

Check out what Sarah Thomas is about to attempt.
Check out what Craig Lenning participated in a few weeks ago.
Can anybody contest that Diana Nyad is a badass?
Those people are superhuman!!
**fixed spelling error**
this is going to sound harsh but lots of people can be teachers and soldiers. and an extreme few can be professional athletes. thats why athletes make so much money..
i love sports and i always find it weird when i meet the rare guy that has no interest..0 -
so for those of you boycotting watching sports because athletes get paid too much.
Do you boycott ALL tv?
Some Actors/Actresses make over a million dollars an episode. The less rich ones only get ohh 20 thousand or more an episode.
Do you boycott those television sitcoms where the actors make over a certain amount of money?0 -
I play sports and have all my life. I watch a little bit of football, baseball, and basketball but really have no insight or clue as to what is going on in them. But tennis I watch almost daily. Just not interested in the big name, big money, big let down sports.0

Can't. Stand. Sports. :sick:0

I went to 1 NFL game, a Seahawks game in Seattle just to experience it. I used to follow the NBA, MLB is ok, but I don't follow it unless Seattle's in the playoffs. NHL is cool to watch when they break out in fights. The only sport I follow is soccer. All leagues, men and women, I'll stay up at odd hours of the night to watch the games during the World Cup.0

a pleasant thought but the nation would be broke we enjoy and are grateful for what we already have since we came from a very poor part of the country I am proud of both my husband and father for doing what it takes to support us they are so many great men in our armed forces that work long hours and long weeks. They are all my heroes0 -
