    2) Obamacare and what I know about it (which is next to hee haw) is a step in the right direction no question.

I feel dumber for having read that regardless of its accuracy.

Me too. "I know nothing about it but I think it is what we need!"

    Seriously?

That's pretty much what the Government said when the bill was passed.

Oh trust me, I remember very clearly when Nancy Palosi was asked what was in the bill and she said, "Well, we'll just have to pass it and find out!"

I shake my head at that. People seem to forget those words though.
  • The covernment could careless about anyone... They only see it as more money to them... Lets get the people who don't have insurance pay for insurance but lets have the people who work pay for it too. Can anyone say Double Dipping? You can get "Cheap Insurance" if you don't have insurance on their website but then it will come out of the tax dollars too.

FYI I was a person that needed help and they denied me two years ago. I was a layed off single mother and they denied me because I made too much on unemployment.... Really The only time I ever needed them and NOPE! Then as a woman with 15 pounds of gold around her neck rolls up in a benz gets her check it kinda pisses me off!!!

They don't Care, I say we all quit and stop paying them and see what happends...

Luckily we have a November election coming up very soon.

Yeah! And all of the voters in the U.S. will elect the same people who are currently causing this mess.

Everyone complains about our President, Senators and Congressmen yet elect those same people over and over again. I can't even blame politicians anymore. Our country is doomed until people start to realize that there are other options on election day than the Republican or Democrat. Everyone is so focused on hating liberals or hating conservatives that they ignore the underdogs, the people whose names they DON'T recognize.

AMEN!!! That is what I have been saying for years!

The sad part is there IS some good parts of the ACA that are ignored, but it still doesn't do enough to address the underlying issues as to why medical care is so expensive.

    1. This thread was a bad idea. Not the right forum and it will get shut down.
    2. Your problem is with the wealthiest citizens and companies in our country...not the tiny little portion of poor people who take advantage of the system. Once you figure that out, you'll be golden.

    One effect of the shutdown:

At the National Institutes of Health, nearly three-quarters of the staff was furloughed. One result: director Francis Collins said about 200 patients who otherwise would be admitted to the NIH Clinical Center into clinical trials each week will be turned away. This includes about 30 children, most of them cancer patients, he said.

800,000 people just lost their jobs overnight. Even more will have their paychecks delayed. Washington D.C., which is largely dependent on federal funds, will have to drain their resources just to continue to function as a city. All non-essential functions, such as processing new VA claims, WIC, and large portions of the USDA, have been shut down.

    All over a pissing match.

And yet congress and all their staff will continue to get paid.

the wealthiest citizens and companies are ALWAYS in control...of any country. The type of government you have just dictates if this is the government or private citizens. NOTHING will ever change that for as long as there is government.

I posted this in my updates, but I thought I'd put it here, since I think it's relevant:

A lady that works here part time for little more than minimum wage signed up for her and her 2 kids for $19/month on the ACA market site this morning. She didn't even know it had gone live today, was ecstatic when I told her and she got on the site and registered. I dunno how this all plays out over time, but seeing stuff like that makes me smile.

8 years ago I was working for AT&T Broadband and we had a big health insurance meeting. I watched a father break into tears in an auditorium full of employees trying to determine if his son who was suffering from MD would be covered by his company insurance and being told no. It's a scene that's picture perfect in my head today, and I always think about what if that was my son or daughter, what would I do?

I feel like ACA probably has some issues, just like any new legislation, social security and medicare weren't perfected in a day, but I think the good for people like the lady in my office far outweighs the bad. Shutting down the government for it seems extreme and selfish, and I hope this ends soon for the people who work for and are affected financially by the furloughs and lack of support they need.

I don't see many wealthy people sitting on their duffs with their hands out.

They're the job creators. They're the ones who pump money in to the economy. They're the ones who pay the most taxes (yes, they do)!

    They're not saying gimme gimme gimme they're asking 'How can I. . . ."

I know this can and probably will spiral out of control, but since I have been home from work all day, and for the foreseeable future, I'm going to vent. You can agree with me, you can ignore me or you can disagree. This is America, we have that right.

There is no one on earth that despises this president, senate and obamacare more than me. That being said, obamacare is the law and here to stay. To refuse to fund the government over it is nothing but a political show.

I have many views I will not expound on now or this will really get ugly. I just believe in working hard for what I have and I do not like people taking it from me to give to those that wont.

    Ready go.....:)

The money that Bush put on the credit card have to be paid for. It is a little too late for people to be complaining about the debt ceiling. Who did we think were going to pay for the War. I did not hear the Republicans complaining when **** Cheney said: that deficits do not matter. All of a sudden they are complaining about deficits. Well people the chicken have come home to roost and it time to pay the credit card.

And for what's it is worth, I am not a fan of President Obama either, but the highest Court in the land have spoken, there is nothing can be done about it now. PO should have stood up to the Republicans bullies a long time ago. IF we think that things are bad now, this is down hill all the way.

We have to repay the Chinese for the Bush tax cuts that should have expired, the war that is still going on, all the aid that is given to all the countries (not to mention that our greatest ally Israel - who gets more aid than the whole continent of Africa - and Congress ensures that Israel gets their money upfront on January 1 every year), whilst other are given in stages. Whilst all the soldiers who have fought have to literally beg to be taken care of. I think it is a disgrace.

Every soldier who is injured in battle should be given free health care for life, free housing and their children given free college education. It's the least the country can do for them, even if it means that we have pay more taxes to ensure that they are taken care of.

The population gets the politicians they deserve. When people realize that there is one man, one vote and it does not matter how much money is pumped into an election, the people can determine the outcome, then things will change.

I work on a military installation, and we normally feed 1500-1700 people during lunch and todays' numbers are in the 600's. One of the largest federal buildings is located here, and they are nearly all furloughed til further notice. My department's credit card was shut off, so my cafe shelves are pretty bare. (I can still get a regular food truck, just no frills...like bottled sodas, ice cream and packaged snacks.)

That said, I'm for the ACA. I think its great that my employees, making an average $9/hr, can now get affordable healthcare. I spent most of my morning helping a third of my staff navigate the exchange. One of my employees is in his late 50's and is a diabetic. He has never had health insurance, and now he can, for $40/month. No system is perfect, and certainly no new systems can be expected to launch perfectly without some growing pains, but it is a step in the right direction. Canada, Great Britain, Denmark, Sweden and other First World nations have managed to have a national healthcare system without breaking the bank and have thriving countries. I think the US is far behind the times. This was a change that has been long overdue...it'll be painful at first til all the bugs are worked out and we get a handle on cashflow, but definitely a step in the right direction.

The Kaiser Family Foundation has some very good non partisan information and reports on the ACA and what it actually does...I had to do a lot of reading to try and figure out what it actually was versus the crap floating around on Facebook: http://kff.org/

I live in Canada where our healthcare is "free" but we pay ridiculous taxes. I don't have anything to compare it to but I am glad to know I or my children will never be denied health care. Granted, it's probably not the best care money can buy but that is a different topic.

The moral around the office is lovely ( I am USAF and work with 1/2 civilians..or I did)

That being said I think their are good and bad to the healthcare law. I do not think it will realistically work in the longterm as written, I did not vote for it, and I do wonder where we are getting the money for it from..... but just pass it so that we can all go back to work...

And so that I can stop working in a place with the moral of a funeral parlor....

Here's the thing that bothers me. I am a retired Air Force officer, and my husband continues to work on an AF base. This shutdown is hurting people. There are plenty of people who work very hard, but who are lower level GS workers whose paychecks allow them to "make it", but just barely. Through no fault of their own, a single lost paycheck means that they will struggle to put food on the table for themselves and their kids. Adding this to the 6 days of lost wages due to the sequester furloughs, and you have a significant part of the government work force who is truly suffering as a result of this. There were people in tears today at my husband's workplace. Awful to see your co-workers lives to negatively impacted. I know civil servants have had a bad rap lately, but most are good, honest people who work their butts off and whose work and personal sacrifices make the lives of so many much better.

I could not put it better myself. Until people lean to read, do their own research and hold their elected officials foot to the fire, they deserve the politicians they get.

Working in a community mental health center where we see the poorest of the poor, I know the power of what you have seen. Its tough knowing you need to see doctors, specialists, etc. and have NO coverage. I have seen very mentally ill people who have struggled for years just to live get insurance and cry once SSDI/SSI has been approved (which some times can take years after many denials). they can now afford their medication, services, and those of their children. When the very basic of needs are met, people do get better to an extent.

Will ACA succeed? Man I hope so. Will it? We will have to wait and see. But yes, to shut down the government to defund the law was not very smart and hopefully the elections coming up will oust a few. I read a poll at lunch that had I think 70% of Americans thinking it was a dumb move even if they agreed with ACA or not.

That's all touching, and I'm not being facetious I mean it, but for me and my family, because Obama thinks I'm "RICH", it'll cost my wife and children around $10k plus a year, and that's only if my company doesn't decide to ditch our insurance which word is they might and force us to go get ACH, then I'll have to add myself to to it, and who knows how much it'll cost then. I've worked hard since I was 17 to get where I am at, and now ACH just took away 8 years of raises, at least.
