    thats not even necessary.

Doing Les Mills, i burn just under 600 cals in a 55 minute cardio work out... and thats not even going at MAX intensity the entire time.

I have always wondered this as well. There are some people on my FL that seem to burn that much every work out! I'm lucky if I burn over 300 in an hour. However, during zumba my instructor and I both wear a HRM. Each week hers reads over 1,000 calories burned in the one hour session. I barely break 300 and I feel like I have worked my *kitten* off! Her HRM goes around her chest whereas mine goes on my wrist. I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but I am in awe of those who can burn so much in a one hour session!
the chest straps are more accurate IMO
  • Even a 165-pounder can burn 1000 in an hour running - it takes 8 miles, or a 7-minute pace. That is well within the reach of a dedicated amateur.

am not quite 165lbs but according to this (http://www.runnersworld.com/tools/calories-burned-calculator) I need to run 12 lots of 5 minute miles one after the other to burn 1000 calories, and I'm just a normal weight and height

The most I can burn now is about 700 in a spin class.. When I weighed 180 lbs I could burn about 900 in same class.
I burn 400 in insanity for 30 minutes.

That would make sense since you are a significantly larger person compared to the OP.

    Oh good, this thread again...

You can do it running, but you have to be pretty fast and pretty heavy.

8 miles @ 7:30 pace = 1,000+ calories in an hour for me (I weigh ~ 180). That's close to my half marathon pace, so I do it as a tempo run (once a week at most).

By being large, out of shape, and working very hard.

    That'd be my guess anyway.
    This.

Swimming or running with a very high intensity. Also, volume weight training will do the trick! IE: 10 sets of 10 squats

However, this is NOT a daily thing. You will EXHAUST yourself if you're constantly burning 1000kcals an hour.
  • Best I can do is a 10 mile run. ~1:20 ish

I know its possible, does anyone out there burn 1,000 calories in an hour if so How? I usually burned this by swimming vigourously for an hour but now that I got swimmers shoulder I need to find an alternative.
Don't want to burst your bubble, but you're not burning 1000 cals/hr swimming at your weight.

I do it,, every day, I do 2 to 3 hours cardio a day!
    I LOVE IT!
    running burns good!
    so does cycling!
  • 60 Minutes of Spin/Cycle class works pretty well for me. Depending on instructor however but I can generally pull out about 1000 in an hour.

If I run at an 8 minute mile pace for 60 minutes I can get around 1k kcals. I have slowed down on that though because at this rate I am burning muscle at a faster rate then fat which for my goals is kind of pointless.

I am sure it is possible to do that at certain weights and intensity levels in an hour, but I believe that MFP grossly overshoots on its calorie burn calculations for those who are not using a heart rate monitor.

Do a bungee jump off a high bridge. You will lose 1000 cals just looking over the edge and thinking about it :-) Hodgie x

Not sure it's possible to burn that in an hour
Possible. High intensity k-boxing and plyometrics with resistance can do it IF intensity is sustained throughout the 60 minutes.

My 160 lb hubby can do it racing mountain bikes. But he is going all out with his HR in the 190s the whole time. He is an avid bike racer with awesome cardio and lots of muscle mass and is a GUY. The average size girl would be hard pressed to find any activity she could sustain for an hour to burn that many calories.
Calorie computers lie most of the time.

I'm doubtful of those cal burns. Not saying they are untrue but 20 min on anything I am doubtful of a burn over 400 cals.

6 mph would be 6 miles in an hour = roughly 600 cals burned
