I like connecting to people in the gym too.
Once I went and spotted this guy on bench press. His girlfriend did not appreciate it.

Apparently you're supposed to be standing at the end of the bench, as opposed to sitting on the guy's lap. Who knew?

Really? I always found the lap seat to be the most comfortable for my workout purposes. So many unwritten rules at the gym :grumble:

I'm guessing so she can focus lol.
Hard to focus with my fiance next to me.

Ok, but what if he ain't talking to or bothering her?
Don't think that would mess up the focus then, no?

ummmmm cause i'm disgustingly sweaty and gross? and even if i wasn't, at that particular moment, then yes, it's a focus thing.

I guess it comes down to human nature. That "stare" factor that a lot of people can't help. And sometimes not even starring, just looking out the corner of our eyes haha.

Same reason guys don't piss at the urinal next to another guy.

lol randomly putting my input, I'm self conscious so if I think a guy is anywhere near looking at me I'm going to shy away and hide!

  • I like to pick the treadmill next to a woman and do one tenth of a mile faster to see if she will increase her speed. If she does then I increase mine. Some ladies are very competitive, let's just say that.

It's all about the incline for me... I love climbing. I set my incline to the highest I can set it to, and go.

for sh*ts and giggles, i've always wanted to hop on the back of someone on the treadmill who's slow walking.

I'll throw in my 2 cents.
I am intimidated by anyone at the gym who looks fit, because I don't. That's just me.
I go to get fit and lose weight, and it helps me to have no one in my peripheral vision distracting my thoughts.

I am very self concious and when theres a fit person right next to me on a treadmill running fast when I'm just walking, or can only maintain a jog for a couple minutes, then I find in my mind I am comparing myself unfavourably to them.
Then I feel bad about myself. If I feel bad, I'm not going to want to stay and keep working out, I'll want to leave.
It is certainly easier to pick a machine with no one on either side. Out of sight, out of mind.
I know I am obese and unfit, I don't need to be reminded while I'm working out.

I don't care who is next to me as long as they are working hard. If I see the person next to me working their butt off, it motivates me to work out even harder. My best workouts is when I am trying to do better than the person next to me.

Well, that's understandable if they're all up in your face like that, but I meant just common courtesy haha.
