Share your dieting 'staple foods'?

I don't really have any 'diet' staple items (unless you count diet cola, because I really do drink too much of it), because I really just see them as 'normal things this girl keeps to eat'.
But at the moment I seem to be eating a lot of:
- Yoghurt (Greek, because it's more pudding-y and like a dessert)
- Apples (and strawberries, if it's payday or they're on special. Or whatever else looks good at the shops. Because I like to put a bit of chopped fruit in my yoghurt)
- Hot chocolate (found this mint flavoured one...yum!)
- Pasta (going through a spaghetti phase at the moment...quinoa, polenta, and various types of rice are also stocked depending on what I've been cooking)
- Cereal (Special K at the moment. Used to have oatmeal for breakfast but after living off it and bananas for a week due to dental work...went off them a little)
- Muesli bars (I quite like Kellog's Crunchy Nut peanut bars, although I think at the moment I have Nice & Natural chocolate ones)
- Biscuits (the tin is always well-stocked, and at the moment with scotch fingers)
- Tea (and like a million varieties. It's practically my lifeblood. I would probably be more upset running out of tea than I would be running out of chocolate. And that's saying something.)
- Milk (whatever I feel like - regular, soy, almond...it jumps around week to week)
- Salad greens & vegetables (if I'm making something that would go with a salad. Vegetables I tend to use a lot of are onions, tomatoes, capsicum, carrots, and celery)
- Frozen vegetables/chips/fish fillets/chicken breasts (basically 'food for when I run out of food'. There are usually tins of soup lurking around the pantry as well. Just in case the apocalypse starts.)
- Raisins (put them in my cereal to give a little sweetness)
- Bolognese sauce (made a giant batch yesterday so it's going to count as a 'staple' for a few days. It was creamy pesto last week. I tend to do a lot of stir-frys and curries in general. What meat is again, whatever I feel like. Chicken, beef, lamb...not as confident cooking fish but I do like honey and almond baked salmon as a special treat)
- Cheese (Parmesan, cheddar, mozzarella...actually, I think I'm out of mozzarella. But you can't have pasta without cheese!)
- Wraps (don't eat them that often...though I'm craving sandwiches these days so I'll probably hit up the baker soon)
- Tinned tuna/salmon (for the wraps, haha. But I don't really feel like it at the moment...gonna buy some roast beef or shaved turkey breast!)
- General baking ingredients (flour, eggs, sugars/sweeteners, nuts, rising agents, butter, chocolate chips...I like my sweet treats, ok?! There's an apple crumble sitting in the fridge at home as I type.)
- General condiments (because we can't run out of those! My housemates have BBQ/Tomato sauce so that's not an issue. But things like mustard, mayo - I make an awesome mayonnaise and still have to get around to that come to think of it, margarine, nut butters, chocolate spread, cranberry jelly, strawberry jam, etc.)
- Ice cream and jelly (summer is approaching here in the southern hemisphere!)
So yeah. Re-reading that it sounds more or less normal. With a generous handful of chocolate on top.

Baby Spinach & lettuce - plus a variety of other fresh/frozen veggies. Lately I've developed a new found love of brussel sprouts
Cheese - Havarti or Pepperjack slices, low-fat shredded cheddar & mozzarella, cottage and string cheese
100% Whole grain Deli Rye bread, taco size flour tortillas and English Muffins
Triscuit Thin Crisps
Hidden Valley Ranch Light dressing
ICBINB Light - I'm old school, NEED butter/margarine on my sandwiches
Kosher Baby Dill pickles
100 Cal pack Cinnamon almonds
Deli Smoked turkey and/or ham lunchmeat
Frozen or fresh boneless, skinless chicken breasts
Lean ground beef, chuck roast or stew meat
Long grain/wild, white or chicken flavored (Knorr) rice

You will have to restrict your food intake for the rest of your life if you plan on keeping the weight off. It's just a fact of life.
Of course. But, this still does not mean I'm on a diet now or for the rest of my life. Diet is a mentality where foods are categorized as good or bad. What I'm making now is lifestyle change.0 -
Oatmeal, eggs, salad, Good olive oil and balsamic vinegar, greek yogurt, almonds, blueberries, sandwich thins, pita chips, spinach avacado yogurt dip, carrots, chicken breasts, pork, wild fish ( no farm fish)
My treats- apple in microwave with peanut butter and chia seeds, 100 calorie ice cream sandwiches, fresh fruit.0 -
There is nothing I eat every single day, and I eat pretty similar things whether I'm cutting calories or not. But things I almost aways have on hand are:
Eggs
"Easy to cook" vegetables (that just require chopping and steaming or roasting) like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, etc.
Tuna and sardines
Apples
Peanut butter
Yogurt
Tofu or tempeh
No-added-sodium roast turkey breast slices (for snacks)
Carrots
Soups
At least one salad green (spinach, lettuce, arugula etc) and cooking green (kale. chard, etc.)
Bread--not always whole wheat, GASP!!!
Old Bay seasoning--I eat it on everything
Sambal and sriracha sauces--which I also eat on everything0 -
fresh fruits and veggies.
bananas almost every day, as well as hummus, vegetarian burgers (I love the Portobello mushroom burger for breakfast) , the flatout foldit whole wheat bread with flaxseed, mixed organic salads ( I always buy a big one for my lunches at work) with dressing, tomatoes, mixed nuts (unsalted, nit roasted), my new favorite is dried mango slices without sugar and without sulfur , peanut and almond butter.0 -

And pretty much anything homemade. Just eating at home has made the biggest difference in my weight loss. Right now I'm cooking beef stew, last weekend it was turkey chili. I cook a huge batch and eat it for lunch most of the week. When I do eat out, I generally opt for simple dishes--salads, chicken & veggies, soup & salad or sandwich.
I count calories 5 days a week, the other 2 days I just try to "keep it simple". Prior to getting pregnant I lost 20ish lbs, and now I'm about to deliver and have gained 23. So--in my eyes--I'm doing alright.0 -

I eat whatever I as long as I'm under my calorie limit, but I do favor certain foods.
I mostly eat:
jalapenos
green peppers
sweet onions
mushrooms
spinach
carrot
oranges
bananas
eggs - over easy, frittata, french omelette, country omelette, scrambled. I love eggs.
chicken - usually seared
pork - seared
sriracha - on everything
cheese - any kind, but I really like kraft singles0 -
chicken, turkey, pork
sweet potato
brown rice
broccoli
steamed veggies
spinach
chocolate
string cheese
yogurt bars
and anything else that fits into my calorie goals0 -
Sam's Club sells a bag of "Mesquite Chicken" in the frozen food section. You can microwave 2 breasts in 6:30 and it's 220 calories. It's too easy to be good for you; it's the quickest dinner I have available with the least amount of dishes.0

My staples are definitely: egg whites (~3/day), dannon fit n light greek yogurt, air popped popcorn too. I eat those pretty much everyday. Other than that and COFFEE I just count and stay under calories.

Fresh baby spinach, cherry tomatoes, eggs, greek yogurt, bananas, apples, blackberries, green grapes, strawberries, roasted chicken breasts, romaine lettuce mix, almost every kind of vegetable, and water.
I recently made the switch from salsa to cherry tomatoes. 4 tomatoes have the same number of calories as 2T of salsa, but I cut out an extra 250 mg in sodium every day.0 -

for example, many cultures might consider rice a staple and base most main meals around it?
for me, bananas, hot chocolate and fat free yoghurt are my staples. must have bananas everyday - easy to carry, cheap and filling. hot choc - staves off sugar cravings. fat free yoghurt - filling and easy to carry around.
