How do you make yourself do more miles when you don't feel motivated to do it?

Put in a 5 mile tape and tell yourself you only have to do 2. Then just tell yourself you might as well do one more. Then you have to do 4 to have an even number and finally if you've already done 4 you might as well do the last one too!

I had to laugh at that. I have a similar motivational track running through my brain every time I do that 5-mile tape. I tell myself that I just have to do a mile, then I ask myself if the first mile was that easy I can do another one, mile three I'm usually starting to argue with myself (in my head mind you!) until I get through the 3rd mile, the fourth mile I too tired from arguing and I just muscle through mile 4, by mile 5 I'm usually asking myself if I could do 4 miles - I can and will finish that last itty bitty mile if it kills me!

TGIF! I did a 4 mile walk today - 4 Fast Miles with boosts. I was kinda surprised at how fast today went as usually I'm zeroed in on the announcements of mile 2 and 3 and the workout can feel like it's dragging even with the girls. So with today added in, I'm 1/8 through my goal for the month.

I've been helping the kids with their Halloween haul a little too much of late. That and my husband stole my scale. He said I get it back next week but he's tired of me obsessing that the number isn't changing when he can see the changes for himself and I need to trust him that my body is changing. It's nice he's supportive, but I'm going to hunt for the scale this weekend :grumble:

Sandy your last post cracked me up too.

Well I did WATP Express 2 mile brisk walk today and alot of extra arm exercises afterward with the stretchy band. I love that thing! This past month I have lost inches in my waist and even a 1/2 inch in my arms where I never lose! 90% of my exercise is walking. Mostly with the WATP tapes.

I thought Id go for a 1 mile walk tonight with the dog. OMG its cold out there! I even had a winter coat on. So I just walked as fast as I could around the block and got back inside. No extra mile tonight.

    Have a great weekend guys!

Ooops I posted under the October thread! Oh well I am counting 8 miles for the week, not to bad considering!
  • Hi there everyone :):) Doing pretty good so far....have been keeping up with the Facebook Walk Away Challenge, and it's pretty fun :) I have also been adding in the 30 Day Shred at night. It gives me extra strength training and really hits my muscles hard. Doing the walks in the morning helps stretch and loosen me up so I am not super sore :):) It's a pretty good system so far :):) Hope you all have a wonderful weekend :):)

Sandy--I do that, too, and not only with the 5 mile videos! Sometimes I don't want to do even 1 mile but I do it anyway. Then usually I keep going.
Food has been BAD this week but so far I have resisted the lure of the chocolate cake my DD baked last night. I do not plan on gaining weight!
Did day 6 of the Facebook challenge--I'm having fun keeping up with that, even though I usually don't have time for Facebook very often.

Hi Everyone! Hope your all having a great weekend. Congrats to all of you who got in a walk today. I didn't get in a WATP workout but spent all day taking my Mom & Aunt shopping, so I feel like I had a workout. I did try on several pairs of size 10 jeans today (Marie got me thinking about it) and to my surprise 5 out of the 6 pairs fit me. Some of them were even a little loose. It's kind of strange how you can go a couple of weeks and not drop any weight but your body still seems to be shrinking. Maybe I'll actually get to see single digit sizes one day!

Kathy, I have to put on my workout clothes and shoes as soon as I get home because if I don't, I know I won't do my walking. After all this time, it's still sometimes hard to get motivated and I know I'll feel better mentally & physically if I just do it! I haven't done as well with my food this week either. I wonder if it's the cooler weather making me want to eat more?

Everybody keep up the good work!

So far, I have completed my goal of excercising 30 mins day x 5 times a week. Week ONE, done!! Well will be in a bit after tonight.

I was finally able to do one of the walks from the WalkClub homepage. I hope their new video player keeps working! I did the 3 mile iWalk which includes exercises with a resistance band. It was harder than I expected but a good feeling afterward!

Later I took my grandson for a walk in the rain. He was fascinated by the raindrops on the umbrella over his stroller!

I just can't seem to get into the Thanksgiving challenge on Facebook. It doesn't help that there isn't enough room where the computer is to do the walking and exercises. Im just going to stick with what I've been doing and go by how I feel each day. I didn't do an official walk Saturday but I did work my butt off doing a big fall cleanup in the yard. Backs of my legs are so sore today. But I took a couple Tylenol and went for a slow hike at the dog park. I know thats a couple miles. I actually feel better now.

Sandy-Wasn't it exciting being able to zip up the size 10? I didn't buy any yet. Seems like all the jeans have some kind of embellishments on them lately. I just want some plain ol jeans.

Everyone is doing great it looks like. Keep up the good work!

I know what you mean Marie. Most of the jeans I tried on yesterday fit but weren't my style. They were either low-cut or the skinny legs, which don't suit my build right. The one pair I liked was kind of loose so I didn't want to get them and have to hem them for just a few wears. I can't wear jeans to work  so there isn't much point than having more than one or two pair right now.

I did one of the 4-mile dvd's today, the one with the stretchy band in the last mile. I'm going to have to get back to eating better though. I didn't really go over much yesterday but it feels like I did.

I hope everyone had a great weekend. It was beautiful here but a little cooler. Actually feels like summer is finally over.

Did 4 miles on my lunch with the gals. So I'm up to 22 miles although I haven't yet had time to update the ticker. Congrats to everyone doing the Facebook Challenge!

Anyone having trouble getting their 8 glasses of water in now that the weather has cooled down? I don't seem to be able to get past 5. Got any tricks?

Oh yes--I am having trouble and I really think it shows in my weight loss AND my eating! I am trying:

    1) a BIG glass before any cup of coffee I have. (I HAVE to have my coffee!)

    2) A glass every time I go into the kitchen.

    3) Drink more tea. This is the easiest because I drink it hot and straight and we have a lot of different kinds here. Also, I have to go into the kitchen to fix or get it so I drink a glass of water then, too.

I don't know yet if any of this is helping--I just started.

My eating has been awful lately. I think it is a combination of things--cooler weather, shorter days, drinking less water--I really need to get this under control! I AM still walking and trying to get in about 4-5 miles a day 6 days a week. I need to remember to take my rest day.

Yay! I forced myself to do the entire 4 mile Fast & Firm DVD alittle while ago. I started thinking Id just do 2 miles. At the end of the second mile Leslie has Mary (from the group) jump in and take over for a bit and she annoys me. I don't even know why...lol... she just does!

As for the water thing. I think it is the colder weather. But sometimes I drink alittle less because I get so darn tired of going potty all the time...lol. Anyone else?

    Have a good night everyone!

Hi Everybody! Sorry I haven't been on much the last couple of days. Sometimes life just gets in the way. I spent another long evening at the ER, with my Aunt this time. She is visiting my Mom and had an episode with her blood pressure going up. I didn't get home until around 11:30 and I"m just too tired to walk tonight. Maybe I can get back on track tomorrow.

I really want to lose 2 more lbs before Thanksgiving to make it an even 60 and hopefully give me a little more incentive to keep it light over the holidays, so I really need to get to work on it. Two lbs should be possible by then, even at my slow rate of losing.

Marie, It's funny but that second mile with Mare annoys me too! lol Wonder why that is? It's not like she's horrible or anything but I still don't like it for some reason.

Tracy, I'm having trouble with the water thing and the frequent bathroom trips too. Today at work they send out an e-mail that says "The water will be turned off for 3 to 5 hours while repairs are being made. Starting right now" You can imagine the line at the bathroom. They could have given us a warning so we could have at least gone light on the coffee! :noway: Thank goodness it was only off for about 2 hours. I was just getting ready to head out to find a restroom when they announced it was back on. Yes! I do work at a strange place. Seriously!

    Hello,

Walked 6 miles so far this week. It's been so nice. In the 60's In Wisconsin, In November almost unheard of. Just waiting for that white stuff to start falling.

I have been still walking 1 mile on my lunch and then 2 miles with Leslie - I have been walking since Sept 20th. I haven't really lost a lot of weight but I have lost 3 inches in my hips and stomach. I can tell my clothes are getting loser in my legs too. Sometimes I feel like I want instant results and not have to work so hard. However the reward is a longer and healthier life.

Any one else have this were they weren't losing. I guess I want the scale to say more. I love reading everyones weight loss tickers they keep me going. Someday I will have a 25lb loss.

    To the future...

Panda--I have that happening. In fact my weight is UP a bit (UGH!!!:grumble: ) but my clothes are getting loser. I really want the numbers to go back down--at least to where they will agree with my ticker. I refuse to put it back up (I'm almost back to it, though.)

Water, water everywhere! :drinker: I'm at home during the day now so going 'potty' isn't a problem. I do try to stop before 7 or 8 so I don't have to get up at night. Seems to be working so far!

Sandy and Marie--I wonder--are we just used to Leslie leading our walks? There is a video I do on the WalkClub homepage where she has Bryana take over towards the end and I find her annoying. I was thinking it's because she's not Leslie, though. (I just don't like change!:noway: )

Updated my ticker and I'm 26 miles in. Today's supposed to be a rest day, but I like to eat too much and apparently will be doing something this evening since I only have 200 calories for dinner after planning out my day :ohwell:

I got in my 8 glasses of water yesterday for the first time in several days :drinker:. Thanks for the tips ladies. I'm trying to do more hot herbal tea which seems to be helping a bit. Of course, like everyone else I'm about to be honored with a frequent miles card for my walking to the restroom at work. Sandy - I can't believe they closed your bathroom with so little notice! Just the thought that I couldn't go would have made it worse for sure!

Panda - I'm so with you. I've completely stalled on my weight loss a few weeks ago - so much so that my husband was tired of my obsessing (his word, not mine) over the scale that he stole it and I haven't been able to find where he hid it. Like you, I'm taking notice of my clothes fitting better. I've also noticed I can make it through those upper arm movements of Leslie's workouts that used to give me trouble before. It's still demoralizing though to not see a lower number on the scale though after all your heard work :flowerforyou:

Yay! Finally got to exercise tonight. I did the 4 mile with the stretchy again because it was in the dvd player already. I knew if I procrastinated too much I'd talk myself right out of it.

Kathy & Panda, I'm up a lb too and I also refuse to move my weight back up. It's just gonna hafta go away again wether it wants to or not.

Tracy, we couldn't believe the short notice either and yes, just the thought of not being able to go makes me panic. I'm the same way when we take a motorcycle ride. I get stressed when we hit those long roads in the mountains with no place to go and that bumpy riding just doesn't help the situation.

You are all doing great towards your goals. I'm gonna hafta play catch up somehow. I may have to make a short trip this weekend and that's not going to help either.

    Hello Walking Friends,

Walked 1.5 miles at lunch and 2 miles today.

Tomorrow when I walk at lunch I will have walked 75 miles since the 20th of September. That is HUGE for me since I am used to being a couch potato.

    Till next time.

    Hello, Everyone.

I was away at a conference for a few days, so I missed my weekend check-in... (Also didn't do so well away from home - too many calories and fat grams even though I was trying to be good; ugh, conference food! Plus, it didn't help that I wasn't walking those days either --- only lost 0.8 lbs this past week, although I am glad that at least it wasn't a gain). Anyway, I'm back home and back on track, did the 3 mile tape today. Thanks, Sandy and LooneyToonz, for the feedback from the previous week. :flowerforyou:

ElvenMother: Keep us updated on the 30 day shred. My sister-in-law is doing it and she says it's a killer.

Tracyts: Regarding the water with the cooler weather, I have found the same thing. Like others, I make sure to start my day with 2-3 glasses of water before leaving for work. I then take a thermos to work that holds eight glasses of water. I make it a point to finish it by the end of the day. I'm finding, though, that with the cooler weather, I'm bringing home about three glasses, so I make sure to finish those at home.

Did 5 miles today at lunch.

Ladies, thanks so much for the ideas on water. I'm working on it, but it boils down to I'm just going to HAVE to get the water in even if I have to run to the bathroom in the middle of the night 3 times :blushing: .

Leslie - Your foot doing well?

Kathy - Sorry yesterday was a hard one. Hope today is a great one!

    AZ - Welcome home!

Panda - Congrats on your milestone! That's a huge accomplishment!

Happy TGIF ladies - hope you have a fabulous weekend.
  • tracyts yes the foot is doing better, doctor told me no boost for at least another week but I can do the walking, thank goodness, I was going nuts for a while there, I know one thing, since starting in July it is VERY hard to be down for 2 day on crutches...And think before that I would have no problem sitting for 2 days... LOL

    Happy Friday Everybody!

Hope you all have a great weekend and get in some walking. It looks like I have a road trip so I'm not sure I'll get to do any myself. November is not working out as I'd planned. I'll be back Sunday night.

    Everybody keep moving! :flowerforyou:

Hello! I would love to join this group - I just bought my first Leslie DVD Walk Slim 4 Fast Miles. Only did 2 miles tonight but hope to get up to 4 soon!

I would like to say that I will walk 40 miles by the end of November. I will try to figure out how to do a ticker...
