We used to get a Bonus every year without fail. In addition a nice gift and since we are so small a nice dinner with our SO to a 5 star restaurant.

However due to the housing collapse a few years back we didn't get one a few years ago, and ever since it has been a fraction of what it once was. I am at 10 year employee and only once did we not get one. That year we weren't aware that it wasn't coming...so it was a bit of a shock. I think if we knew before hand it would have been easier to deal with.

Get up to 15% of my salary if we meet our targets, which are performance based. I feel very fortunate to be a part of the organization I work for. And am nicely compensated for it.

OK, just for clarification, many of you are commenting about the taxes withheld from your bonus payments...

A "bonus" is considered supplemental wages. Most commonly, employers with withhold a flat 25% Federal Tax Rate. For many people this is significantly higher than they would normally pay. Employers CAN choose to use their standard Federal Withholding elections as well (Such as Married - 1), but 25% is most common practice.

Now, keep in mind, you didn't just "give the government more money." When you file your taxes by April 15th, everything balances out to what you ACTUALLY owe in taxes... What you elect to have withheld from your pay doesn't determine jack *kitten* as far as what you owe in taxes.

I get a $600 (before taxes) Christmas bonus every year. It's nice, helps offset the cost of Christmas gifts.

I get nothing. We take the staff out to lunch. Cost £350 plus whatever it costs to give them a half day holiday with full pay

    I get them..
Not too excited about it, though.
I don't get excited over money since it's going to get spent anyway.

The first 2 years I worked here, I got a $500 bonus on my last paycheck of November. Considering I live paycheck to paycheck, it DID pay for Christmas.

Then the voluntary board of directors voted to take away the annual bonus, and split it between my paychecks, a whopping $12 a check. My boss was not happy as they have no authority to fire/hire her assistant, but took that away. Anyway, last year I got $300 visa gift card.

    Nothing this year.

I know I mentioned the tax % taken out but I'm still happyto be getting a bonus. I know not everyone does.

I get my bonus plus a match into my 401k. Plus stock and cash into my ESOP account since I work for a 100% employee owned engineering, architecture, and construction consulting firm.

I work for what is technically a non-profit (not a charity though, a regulatory body) so no bonus for me. We do get several extra days of office closure that don't come out of our vacation time or personal time, though. I'm okay with it.

    Daizy, you misspelled anal

QUOTE OF THE YEAR. I almost fell out of my chair laughing. THANK YOU!

(Even if it was kind of perverted and probably offensive to Daizy.... sorry Daizy.)

nadda.. plus haven't seen a cost of living increase in going on 4 years..
  • They let me cash in 3 days worth of sick incentive...I have no idea if that counts as a "bounus" though.

I don't consider it a bonus. It's a gift. It is not to be expected, only appreciated.

Lol, IMO how is it a bonus if you're being taxed on it? Hell if your job wants to give you a bonus, then how about just giving some free stock on the company? At least that's tax deductible.
IMO, most bonuses aren't really earned. It's just BS for employers to just say "hey, thanks for sticking around and maybe I can keep you here without giving you a raise for another year".

I worked at a nonprofit where we got $50-100 as a Christmas bonus along with an annual performance bonus in July which was around 10% of annual income. So this is opening my eyes that not all nonprofits do things so similarly to the "corporate world".

Also worked at a credit union briefly PART-TIME, around 20 hrs/wk making a scary-low wage (like 50 cents above min wage). I'd only been there for 2 months and my holiday bonus (profit sharing) was like $800. So I made ALMOST as much on the bonus as I did working there for 2 months (quit soon after for a much better position elsewhere).
